In the winter of 2015, the National Shrine of La Salette was fortunate enough to welcome our resident artist, Brother Donald Wininski, to live here in Attleboro. A Massachusetts native, Bro. Donald came to the shrine from Altamont, NY where he honed his skills as a painter, submitting and taking home many medals and ribbons for his works in local fairs and contests. Over the past year, Brother Donald has been creating many works from his studio in the Retreat Center, which hang all around the Shrine. From the 3-part depiction of our Lady’s Apparition in the Welcome Center’s conference room to the three depictions of angels that hang above the choir in the Shrine Church Brother continues to use his talent and love of art to draw all who visit the Shrine into a deeper relationship with Christ. Some of Brother Donald’s paintings are on display and available for purchase in the Religious Article Store. DeLorenzo Beginning with the apostles themselves, Christians have practiced the art of telling their stories to bring others to faith. Leonard J. DeLorenzo, theology professor and director of Notre Dame Vision—a program designed to help youth and young adults find their true vocation—presents seven guiding principles to help you share your faith in a genuine way and teach others to do so as well. Unlike many evangelical Christians, Catholics often find it difficult to tell their faith stories. Leonard DeLorenzo has taught thousands of teens and young adults to relate their moments of grace in a way that is compelling, convincing, and free of clichés and vague generalizations. “Witness” is a unique resource for faith-formation ministers and adults of all ages to appreciate the ways that grace is at work in your life, to inspire hope, and to build community by telling your own faith story. Available in our bookstore. YOUNG ADULT Sunday February 12, at 7:00pm In Retreat Center Chapel Our Young Adult Group YD:21 will begin to sponsor a monthly TAIZE prayer night in the Retreat Center Chapel. During the evening, our young adults will be leading the prayer. All young adults from the ages of 18-35 are invited to attend. Ted, Fr. Lamartine, or Fr. Flavio Pg 3 2017 LA SALETTE MOVIE FESTIVAL Beyond the Walls: Building Spaces of Reconciliation Nowadays we live in a very polarized culture and society. On the one hand we live in a global community: both web networks and social media allow us to communicate in real time with the four corners of the world. On the other hand, we constantly witness an insurgence of different forms and ways of both radicalisms and fundamentalisms (political, ideological, racial, religious and more). In our current context, what does it take to build islands of communion and reconciliation rather than walls and barriers of division and exclusion? These are the questions we invite you to explore through the “La Salette 2017 Movie Festival”, with 8 screenings, the last Friday of every month, the next of which will be on February 24, 2017 from 7:15-9:00pm. February’s movie is “Just Let Go.” After a drunk driving accident that caused the death of his wife, his unborn baby, his nine year old daughter, and his eleven year old son, Chris Williams committed to do something extraordinary... His decision launched him on a journey toward healing that affected his family and friends, the young man who caused the accident, and an entire community. Based on actual events, “Just Let Go” is an empowering invitation for all who have suffered, however unjustly, to down their burdens and just let go. For those of you who do, we will begin to offer ‘online giving’ for your regular donation. In addition to the basket system you will now be able to select an amount you would like to give to the Shrine each week, set it, and forget about it. This amount will be put on your charge card or taken right from your bank account like other automated giving. We are now using a very secure system called the E-Catholic/Blue Pay System. Its security is twice that of Amazon and Paypal and use of this method has several advantages for both you and the Shrine. After enrolling, you’ll no longer have to remember to get your money ready at home or stop at the ATM before coming to Mass. You also won’t have to search to find the pen to make out a check. If you forget to bring your money, you can still make a one time donation on your phone. We’ll even give you a coupon so you still have something to put in the basket so you don’t feel guilty when the basket is passed. With Blue Pay, you will also be able to register and buy tickets to different events for events at the Shrine online! Of course we’ll still take cash in the basket and candle money at the front desk.
