Abstract:
'1he Ioxahatc:hee Wild and Scenic River Study was mnducted
pursuant to the Wild and Scenic Rivers. Act, Public Law 90-542, as anended.
'!!le Nati<Xlal Park Service has determined that a 7. 5-mile secJIBlt of the
river is eligible for inclusion in the Haticnal. System based on its
outstandingly remarkable eoologic:al, fish Sid. wildlife, and mcreaticnal
values. '1he National Park Service proposes that this eligible &e911Dt be
included as. a State-aaninistered conpcnent of the Hatiaial Wild md Scenic
Rivera System.
thder the pmposed concept plan management of the
IDuhatc:hee River wuld be a a>operative effort ~ the State of Florida, the
South Plorida water Management District end the County of Palm Beadl.
'l'hD!e alternatives were developed and evaluated in accordance with the
Natimal P.nvitaunental Pbli'Y Act (NEPA). Altemative A is the wa:mnenc:1ed
ptqX>Sal to inclUde the 7.5-mile eligible segment of the river as a
State-echinistered conp:nent of the Natiaial System. Alternative B involves
designaticm of a 7 .5-mile segment of the river as a State-aebinisterecl
COllpouent of the national systen but provides additional pr:otecticn in the
ex>rridor as well as restoration of the Ioxahatc:hee Slough. Alternative c is
the No Actioo or Existing Trends alternative md dlaracterizes the futm:e
conditims expected to occur in the study area without a formal mmagement
plan or designation as a wild ma scenic river.
'Ibis environmental inpact statement will serve as the proposal's mapliance
docment for Sectiai 7 of the Endangered Species Act of 1973, Executive
Order 11988 (Floodplain Management), Executive Order 11990 (Protection of
Wetlands), Section 106 of the 1966 Nati<Xlal Historic PJ:eservaticn Act aid
Executive Older 11593 (Protection and Enhancement of the Cultural
Enviroument) •
