MAKING LEARNING IRRESISTIBLE

NQT/ Recently Qualified Annual Conference
MAKING LEARNING IRRESISTIBLE
Tuesday 10 November, 2015
9.15am – 3.45pm with buffet lunch
Eastwood Park, Falfield, Nr Wotton under Edge, GL12 8DA.
A Conference for all NQTs, in all phases in schools, academies and settings. This
conference will also suit those in the second year of teaching, needing a top up or
returning to teaching after a break.
You will receive a copy of ‘Think Like a Learner’, Di Pardoe’s resource book which
supports the content of the conference and can be used to contribute to the
development of high quality learning and thinking in the classroom.
'Think like a learner' is aimed at learners from about 8 to 13 years of age, but activities can be
adjusted for older or younger pupils.
There will be presentations and activities with Di Pardoe and Sara Tanner thinking about….
What do we
understand by
‘irresistible
learning’?
Learners as
more active
participants
Teacher
behaviours,
routine, rapport
and relationship
The importance of
behaviour for learning
– helping pupils to take
responsibility
As a participant you will learn what supports pupils to become self-motivated learners and the
vital interactions of the teacher in shaping pupil behaviours. You will learn how to increase their
progress and create a positive working environment for all. Understanding and using this
pedagogy, the strategies and routines you embed early on in your teaching career will pay
dividends in the future.
Di Pardoe is passionate about learning and believes that all children need an environment where they are both
cherished and challenged and where they are enabled to develop learning stamina and experience personal
learning success. Di has taught in the primary and secondary phase and held senior leadership roles in schools
and wider education. She works with under- and post- graduate students. She is now an independent education
consultant and trainer working with teachers, support staff, parents, governors, and children.
Sara Tanner works as part of the Inclusion Support Service in both mainstream and more specialist provision
providing support and challenge to school staff working with pupils with behavioural, emotional and social
difficulties. She understands that behaviour does not stand alone, but inevitably arises from some other need
and thus the importance of teachers being able to identify and address other difficulties. She provides teachers
with pragmatic advice to work with challenging young people individually and across whole classes.
