January 2015 Student of the Month Assemblies
Friday, January 16th, 2015
Periods 1,3,7,8
Period 1: 7:25-8:15 AM
Fire House: Teams 3,5,9
Team 3: Spark
Sydney Taylor
This student of the month truly personifies our team name. She has a fun and spirited personality,
and adds spark to the classroom with her tremendously positive outlook and unending energy. She
is friendly to all of her peers, and volunteers to help both peers and teachers. She does not shy away
from hard work, and will stay in for team time to ask for help, or to make sure she understands
information. This hard work and dedication is reflected in her good grades. In school, she is a
member of the band. Her free time is spent playing soccer, lacrosse, and as a point guard for
basketball. This person simply makes us smile. Team 3 is not only fortunate to have Sydney Taylor
as part of our team, but very happy to name her as our January student of the month.
Thomas Delgado
Our next student of the month is a genuinely nice guy. On our team, he has been a polite and patient
friend and student. He volunteers to help his friends and teachers, and at times has been the only
one to volunteer. He has a positive outlook that influences his actions toward others and also
influences those around him. In his free time he likes to play soccer and basketball, and he often can
be found helping out at home. This boy makes us smile on Team 3. He is a pleasure to know and be
around, and we are so fortunate to have him on our team. Congratulations to Thomas Delgado,
Team 3 student of the month.
Team 5: Wildfire
Kirsten Richardson
Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "I think, at a child's birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to
endow it with the most useful gift, that gift should be curiosity." Just one of Kirsten's most
wonderful and prominent qualities is her curiosity. In class discussions, she adds invaluable
insights, asks probing questions, and, therefore, consistently raises the class to a higher level. It is a
delight to see her curiosity and creativity shine through, and in fact, she makes our jobs as teachers
more fun! She clearly embraces learning as a way of life, not simply a process that occurs in
school. In addition to these life-enhancing qualities, she is classy, well-spoken, and mature. She
has been an outstanding addition to Team 5.
Sean Burns
Our student, Sean Burns, is aptly described in the following insight by Stephen King: "Talent is
cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of
hard work." All year, our team of teachers have marveled at Sean's diligence and perseverance. He
is one of the most focused and hardest working students we've seen. One of his best qualities is his
ability to accept feedback and immediately put it into practice. Sean is a model student because he
always strives to do his absolute best and this priority never wavers. In addition, he is unfailingly
polite and respectful. We are so happy to call him a member of Team 5.
Team 9: Inferno
Sadie Bucknam
“We all have an obligation as citizens of this earth to leave the world a healthier, cleaner, and better
place for our children and future generations.” -Blythe Danner
This student was nominated for Student of the Month by several of her peers. A friend said, “She is
super funny, nice, and helpful when it comes to school, by explaining things to you when you are
stuck on something. Outside of school, she participates in Irish dancing, and happens to be very
good!” This student also participates in Builders Club, and spends a lot of time on community
service. She is thoughtful, genuine, kind, and extremely conscientious. She works hard to live up to
her academic potential, going above and beyond to make her final products the best they can
possibly be. We are very fortunate to have Sadie Bucknam as January’s Student of the Month.
Mitchell Bradley
Aristotle said, “In poverty and other misfortunes of life, true friends are a sure refuge. The young
they keep out of mischief; to the old they are a comfort and aid in their weakness, and those in the
prime of life they incite to noble deeds.”
This student sets an outstanding example for courtesy and respect. His peers say that he is “nice
and caring, and he is always happy to help others.” He is a quiet leader, both in and out of the
classroom. He reminds us that citizenship consists in the ability to be a leader and to be genuine. He
is determined, polite, and gracious to adults and students. His friends truly appreciate his loyalty,
his even keel, and kindness. He is always willing to work with anyone in class, accepting and
welcoming any student into his group. He is a well-rounded gentleman, and Team Inferno is a
better place for having his presence on it. We are very happy to announce Mitchell Bradley as
January’s Student of the Month.
Period 3: 9:10-10:00 AM
Air House: Teams 1,7,12
Team 1: Windstorm
Lydia Hughes
This month’s student of the month is someone who is a very enthusiastic learner. She is very
focused in her classes, always putting forth her best effort. She is an active participant in class
discussions. She asks insightful questions and her positive attitude is very motivating for the class
as a whole. This student is very quick to help anyone who may need assistance, whether it’s helping
a student who may need to get caught up with class work or helping a teacher with a classroom job.
Outside of school, she enjoys basketball, soccer, swimming, and biking and she loves to read in her
free time. This student has demonstrated her commitment to community service in a variety of
ways. In November, this student helped to make meals for the families in Sierra Leone, Africa, as
part of an organization called Save the Children. As a member of the Builder’s Club, she was
involved in the Festival of Trees this past December. She also stayed after school this year with Mrs.
Glennon to make Goodie Bags for the soldiers and most recently to help package bookmarks which
will be sent out to the soldiers for Valentine’s Day. Clearly a student who is concerned about the
welfare of others, and one who leads by her example, Team 1 is proud to recognize Lydia Hughes as
this month’s student of the month.
Brady Dixon
This month’s student of the month is someone who is friendly, thoughtful, and conscientious. He is
very helpful to teachers and students alike. He is very organized and always comes to class
prepared and ready to learn. He is very focused during lessons and makes a terrific effort to actively
participate. When he is involved in group activities, this student takes the initiative to make sure
that others in the group are all getting a turn to participate. If the activity is skill-based in nature, he
will routinely help those in the group who may need some extra support. He works really well with
others. His good-natured attitude and positive, uplifting personality contribute to make the
classroom environment more fun and engaging for everyone. Outside of school, this student
participates on the Exeter Swim team. This student not only puts in many hours at swim practice,
but also chooses to further improve his swimming by doing fitness conditioning and strength
training a few times a week at a local gym. His hard work is clearly paying off in that this student
has already managed to break two records. A student who truly exemplifies “team spirit”, Team 1 is
proud to recognize Brady Dixon as this month’s student of the month.
Team 7: Tornado
Desirae Kohler
"Still waters run deep." This quote clearly describes Team 7's January Student of the Month.
Though a quiet, modest, and reserved young lady, she is a tenacious and attentive student. When
school becomes difficult, as it does for all of us at times, she does not let it discourage her. She
is stalwart in her conviction to perform to the best of her ability and is willing to put the time and
effort into overcoming any challenge. Her unassuming nature is a breath of fresh air, and that earto-ear smile of hers, always brightens the day of both her teachers and peers. A confection of
determination, resolution, and heart, she will surely succeed in all she attempts. It is said that a
successful person is one who achieves and also inspires. She is indeed a reflection of this belief,
always giving whatever the endeavor, her all.
Team 7 is proud to recognize Desirae Kohler.
Braden Green
Even though I only get to know the students a quarter at a time in health class, I am amazed
at how this individual has transformed within my class in the last nine weeks. This student has not
only grown exponentially in his academics since the beginning of the quarter, but he has also grown
in character as witnessed through acts of kindness. Before you really get to know this individual, he
may appear reserved and keep his thoughts and feelings to himself. It may even appear as if he is
wearing protective armor in order to be prepared to shield and defend himself in a time of need,
but don’t be fooled or shy of this protective armor. As I have come to know this individual, I am able
to see past the armor. This individual is inquisitive, insightful, and chivalrous. Testimony to this is
his awareness and willingness to help his fellow classmates from other teams during a time of
need. This individual goes out of his way in order to make his fellow classmates feel included and
supported within the classroom. Inside that shiny armor, I nominate Brady Green for student of the
month.
Team 12: Hurricane
Loren Brooks
This Student of the Month candidate is someone who tends to fly under the radar in the halls of
CMS, but makes an active contribution to her community outside school. This person marches to
the beat of a different drummer, being more concerned about her community and the world around
her than about the perceptions of others. Someone who knows this person well says that she
“brushes superficiality aside” instead of letting what other people think stop her. She has been
involved in Scouting for more than 5 years and is currently enrolled as a Cadette. Unlike many girls,
she has enthusiastically remained in the program into her middle school years. As a member of the
Cadette troop, she is often asked to help with the Junior Girl Scout troop. She is always ready to lend
a hand and her steady influence makes her a wonderful role model for the others. She is a trusted
babysitter who can handle the responsibility of child care while still being fun and creative. She has
a solid knowledge of first aid, outdoor skills, and financial savvy. She has an overall good character
and zest for life that makes her the ideal Student of the Month candidate. We are very proud to give
this award to Loren Brooks.
Garrett Frattali
Our other Student of the Month is someone who is known for his positive attitude and
determination to perform at his best. Teachers know this student to be consistently upbeat,
conscientious, and energetic. HIs peers feel strongly that this candidate embodies many of the
qualities that make someone a true Student of the Month. His peer nomination described him as an
“awesome friend,” one who is “nice,” “kind,” and “supportive”. As the recommendation said, “He is
the kind of guy [who] if you ask him to sit with you at lunch, he will. He is very supportive, and
should be recognized for these things.” We are happy to give this student the recognition he
deserves, so congratulations to Garrett Fratalli!
Period 7: 12:30-1:20 PM
Water House: Teams 4,6,11
Team 4: Rip Tide
Morgan Pulliam
This young lady walks around with a huge smile on her face. She may be quiet (in some of her
classes) but she laughs jovially and spreads it contagiously. She easily makes friends because she is
simply a great all around person. Her friends state she gives lots of hugs and can cheer you up
anytime and that she is an amazing collaborator and never complains about anything, which as
teachers, we also see. She asks questions and is helpful to other students and has a positive
attitude. Shares her ideas and participates in class- always. She challenges herself to do the right
thing at every turn. She is a collaborator in her activities, especially in sports, by playing soccer,
basketball and track. She recently worked on making bookmarks and wrote letters to service men
and women. Every day she and another student clean up Ms. Moss's classroom as other kids make
their mass exodus, by putting up chairs, finding the tennis balls that go on them and gathering any
loose items and putting them in their rightful places.
With pleasure we are happy to award team Four Student of the Month to Morgan Pulliam.
Kyle Lankler
Team 4's student of the month is always upbeat, positive and a friend to everyone. He is easy to get
along with and is a joy to have in class. He gets involved in all class discussions with many valuable
insights. He plays lacrosse, soccer, and loves attending UNH hockey games. He participates in
many charitable events, like the ALS ice bucket challenge, and also has donated his time to help
wounded sea animals recover and make their way back to sea. He has taken care of his neighbor's
dog when needed. On top of all this he is a devoted student which is not just evident in his stellar
grades but by his ability to win the Team 4 Geography Bee. Even though he shares an avid love for
the New York Rangers with Mr. Holly, we would like to present the Team 4 student of the month to
Kyle Lankler.
Team 6: Tidal Wave
Catherine Dixson
In order to best describe our student of the month, we’d like to quote the lyrics of her idol, Taylor
Swift. This young lady, “never misses a beat. She lights up her feet. She dances on her own and
makes moves as she goes. That’s what you may not know”. Whether she’s helping our school with
the yearbook, planning volunteer at the SPCA, or offering a friendly smile to her teachers and
friends, she is definitely a light in everyone’s day. Recently, we found out she has the hidden talent
of transforming innocent looking faces into ghoulish monsters by using her boundless creativity
and an enormous amount of make-up. She is crafty, inquisitive, and very musical, even teaching
herself the ukulele. And while we know when it comes to getting all of these compliments, she will
modestly want to “shake it off”, we are honored to choose Cate Dixson as our student of the month.
Brian Lafoe
We have a young man on our team who exhibits evidence of maturity that is often still developing
at this stage of life. He has a great sense of humor but also balances this with a strong sense of
responsibility. He is engaged in class discussions and is always willing to help peers and teachers
whenever asked. This student asks appropriate questions and offers keen insight to help in gaining
a better understanding of what he is learning. Along with a strong academic foundation, this young
man is always ready for an adventure, whether it is skiing on the slopes or trying out new moves on
a skateboard. Even when he is not playing baseball or running for cross country, this student
always finds ways to stay active outdoors. We are pleased to have Brian Lafoe as our student of the
month.
Team 11: Tsunami
Julia Dusseault
This girl is always smiling. She is so much fun to be around, and she is nice to everyone. I have
seen her go out of her way to be nice to someone and brighten their day multiple times. She
helps everyone, not just her friends, whenever they may need it. I have never heard her make
fun of or hurt someone’s feelings, ever. She plays soccer and tries her hardest in whatever
challenge she takes on. She is a great leader and that shows on and off the soccer field.
Because of these reasons, team 11 has chosen Julia Dusseault as our first student of the month.
Jason Gagnon
Our second student was nominated because of the great example he sets for others. In class, he
holds himself to the highest standards, not because he wants the grade, but because he truly
wants to understand the material and learn. He takes personal responsibility, especially when
he’s absent, advocates for himself and others, and participates all the time.
However, we especially appreciate how he practices his citizenship skills outside the
school. We’ve noticed how he rose to the occasion by being an excellent example and caretaker
to his new baby brother, and volunteering during the weekends like when he went to New York
City to help hand out warm clothing to the disadvantaged.
Let’s recognize Jason Gagnon!
Period 8: 1:20-2:10 PM
Earth House: Teams 2,8,10
Team 2: Sandstorm
Madison Reed
Our female student of the month is a charming, delightful, conscientious, young lady. A student who
nominated her said, “She has been such a good help. She is caring and always helps others.” She will
ask teachers daily if there is a way she can make our lives easier and does this simply for the
satisfaction of doing something for someone else. She arrives promptly to class with a smile on her
face and contributes positively to any classroom environment. Our female student of the month is
Maddie Reed.
Zackary Lamonday
Our male student of the month is a quiet dynamo. He dresses for success, often wearing a bowtie
on Bowtie Wednesday. He is prepared and participates in class daily and does a fabulous job
balancing academics with his extra-curricular activities which include baseball and basketball. It is
his ability to converse with others, both peers and adults, and make them feel comfortable, that is
one of his special qualities. This young man has a positive attitude that is often contagious. Others
join in his conversations, and he listens, but he always remains true to himself. Our male student of
the month is Zach Lamonday.
Team 8: Landslide
Katie Nicholson
This young lady is friendly and an active participant in all of her classes. She is responsible and
always cheerful, even at 7:30 in the morning to start the day! She is an avid reader. In English, she
has donated her Isinglass books to the class library so her classmates can enjoy them as
well. Consistent, determined, respectful, and conscientious are just a few of the adjective that
describe this young lady. Peer comments include “always lends a helping hand”, “easy to talk to”,
and a “good friend to have”. We are proud to announce Katie Nicholson as our team landslide
student of the month.
Team 10: Earthquake
Jordan Moores
This student was nominated by her peers because of her helpful, caring nature. She is inclusive of
her classmates both in the classroom and in the lunchroom. She will sit with people to be sure no
one feels left out.
In class, she participates positively and is genuinely polite to everyone. Her teachers especially
appreciate her friendly, happy attitude in class. With great pleasure, we award the January Student
of the Month to Jordan Moores.
Avery Cardeiro
This student also received several nominations from his peers. He sets a positive example for his
peers with his strong work ethic. Not only is he an overall kind and considerate person, but he is
one of the first people who will stop whatever he’s doing to help out his friends. We recently
learned that he has a special musical talent as well, and is a great help to his “cello fellows.” We are
pleased to award the January Student of the Month to Avery Cardeiro.
