Born on July 12, 1875 in Boulogne-sur-Mer, He studied at the 'Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Lille and at the Académie de Boulogne from 1895 to 1901. There he studied the works of Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne, and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes. Guillaume Appolinaire liked his work. After integrating La Ruche, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Independants in 1903, and at the Salon d'Automne in 1904, 1906, 1907, 1913, from 1919 to 1926 and from 1935 to 1941. He joined the Fauvists and was very involved in the artistic life in Montparnasse and elsewhere: in 1926, many dissident painters which included Marcel Gromaire, Bompard and André Lhote split from the Salons des Independants and joined the Salon de l’Art Français which took place from 1929 to 1933 and was created by Victor Dupont. Dupont's paintings often feature regal women browsing through open air markets. He worked with his friends Georges Rouault (1871-1958), Maurice Boudot-Lamotte (1878-1958) and Claude Émile Schuffenecker (1851-1934). After 1918 his style becomes more classical and focused on family and religion. This style, made popular by fellow French painter Victor Gilbert, who began exhibiting his Parisian street scenes approximately ten years prior to Dupont's emergence. This style proved to be very popular with the Parisian art collectors of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and this popularity continues today. His works can be found in the Museum de L'Oise in France, Lille, Beauvais and Boulogne sur mer where a street bears his name. _____________________________________________________________________ SIGNATURE Signature from The artist’s daughters in Biarritz Signature from our painting _____________________________________________________________________ CONDITION Overall good condition.
