The Voice of Shaddai, is your monthly paper, devoted to the news of the Temple, Units and Shrinedom in general. Shaddai April 2017 3 The POTENTATE’S Message David “Mac” McMillian Illustrious Potentate Greetings Nobles: Hope this communication finds you and yours well. Since last we visited we have had many events that have taken place. We have more events in our near future. Our First Friday Dinners are well attended, we well be having an EASTER EGG HUNT for our hospital children as well as our families also if you know of some children that you would like to see have a good time bring them also. I want all to feel free to attend all that we do here as a Shrine Temple. Remember you can't enjoy our events unless you partake in them so be ready, be willing because the amount of participation you give no matter how small or large may be what's needed to get the job done. Until we shall be able to be together in friendship and Shrine Love be safe and your travel be smooth and without any sharp turns. Mac McMillan, Your Humble Potentate Shaddai Chief Rabban Greg Williams April 2017 H.P. & Prophet Joe Paul 4 Oriental Guide Mark Dragon Hello Nobles!!! Nobles and Ladies: Nobles & Ladies: First, I would like to thank all of you, the Nobles of Shaddai, for electing me to the position of Chief Rabban for 2017. I will do my best to help make Shaddai the best Temple we can be. As we start a new Shrine year with Ill Sir David and Lady Tracey, we should first be mindful of the gifts the God gives us each day. Also, We MUST as a Shrine come together and support each fund raiser that the temple has in order the keep this temple open and able to support our Shrine Kids and Nobles. I will be contacting each unit and Noble to help with the Paper Drive this year. That is on April 22nd. If you have supporters that pay for the plaque it is not too early to contact them and be prepared to pick up the money for the tab on their plaque. “Hospital Days”, I was genuinely overwhelmed by my first visit to this annual event. I have always been told of the quality of care and attention to detail that the Doctors and Staff at our Tampa Hospital for Children exhibit to our patients. But I was not aware of the fact that our Tampa Hospital for Children is on the cutting edge of technology when it comes to treatment and cures. We had the opportunity to meet and listen to two patients who are currently under the care of our hospital. One of the young men had broken his femur bone at about the same age of one of my step sons. My step son was treated locally by an orthopedic surgeon, which involved a body cast for the summer. After treatment and therapy, he was told that one leg would always be shorter than the other one because of the damage to his bone and he would have to have a lift made for his shoes. The young man who received treatment from our hospital will not have to deal with one leg shorter than the other due to the advanced treatment and technology used by our doctors and therapists. I left Tampa that weekend with a completely different outlook about what it truly means to be a Shriner and how proud I am to say that I am one. Never forget our mission! I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday. I know we all get so busy at times during the season, but remember to take a moment to remember what the season is all about. If I failed to mention before, the Shaddai Banquet was a great success!!! Thank You to everyone who helped work and came out and supported our Temple. Nobles, we are in a New Year which holds wonderful things for our Temple. Let’s all pull together and support Illustrious Sir David McMillan as he assumes the role of Potentate of Shaddai. Please remember, if you ever have any questions or concerns, I and the Divan are always here for you. Attend stated meetings, dinners, and any other functions we may have at Shaddai. In closing, please remember our hospital staff, fellow nobles and their families, and especially our children in your daily prayers. Better get this turned in…I promised I would strive harder to insure my articles in on time. We will also be having the 2nd annual Shrine Rodeo. I would ask each unit to help find sponsors and food vendors for this year. It takes each of us working together to make this fund raiser a success. Thank you again for your courtesies given to Heidi and Myself. God Bless you and your family, and May God Bless the United States of America. May God Bless Each & Every one of You Shaddai April 2017 Recorder Phil d’Albertis, PP 5 Clowns Doug Bastendorf Howdy Nobles, Nobles and Ladies, I hope this issue of the Voice finds you happy, healthy and proud to be a Shriner! I continue to get calls asking about dues cards and or renewal stickers. Remember that dues notices and dues cards are sent out by Imperial. You still pay your dues at the Temple and I will update your status in web fez. Right now it is taking 6-8 weeks from the time I receive your dues to the time you receive your dues card/sticker. If you need a paper copy of your new dues card to show you are current, then please call me and I can print one or send it to you electronically. You can use this as proof that you paid your Temple dues to show your Unit or Club so that you can participate with them until yours comes in. On Saturday April 15th, the Shaddai Clown Unit, along with the Potentate, Illustrious Sir: David McMillan is sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt. Games, Hot Dogs and lots of prizes. From 11:00 AM to 2 PM at the pavilion area of the temple grounds. Come join us and see the delight on the kids’ faces. Have you ever stopped and wondered…what are our responsibilities as a Shriner? According to Shriners International, each Shriner is expected to help the fraternity grow by recruiting new Nobles and being active as possible, and to support the philanthropy by helping to identify children who may benefit from our hospital systems expert care. A Child's laughter is what we are after. Be a part of it and make your day brighter. Doug Bastendorf, Clown Secretary I ask you to think about how you can take ACTION in the Temple! Acceptance: We are all unique and offer different talents, contributions and skills to this organization. We need to be more tolerant of these differences to enable our temple to flourish. Be mindful of this and strive to guide each Noble in a pathway that they can best utilize their talents for the growth of our Temple. Communication: Good communication skills promote a harmonious and a productive environment. Let’s strive to utilize “The Voice”, social media, stated meetings, and personal contact to keep our Nobles informed and on track with the current activities. Teamwork: Encourage Nobles to become more involved and provide positive feedback for their efforts. Create opportunities for Nobles to work together in all aspects of our Temple to include our committees, fundraisers and ritualistic work. Offer transportation assistance to those Nobles that can no longer drive to stated meetings. Be eager to assist a struggling Noble, committee or even Unit/Club to help them achieve their goals. The temple will always benefit in the end. Innovative: There is always room for new ideas and improvement! Consider creating exposure opportunities for prospective new Nobles or even new units as a means of increasing member involvement and interest. There are many themes or social activities that units can take form of such as cigar clubs, crafted beverage units, or other motorized ideas. Don’t forget to incorporate opportunities for fun during your social times. Organize social activities outside of the temple to include movie nights, sports nights or just getting together for a meal. Many traditions are great, but sometimes change is needed to carry our temple into the future. Director Staff Grady Broxton And a great almost Spring day to all the great Nobles out there. Seems as though it has been forever since I’ve had a chat with you. Well they say it cost a lot of money to do the paper, so we have it now once a quarter and maybe that’s enough anyway. Just want you to know I miss you. Are you having a good time? And, what do you do for fun? I hope you are all doing something for fun. Life is too short to work all the time. I know, I used to do that. I know that we are supposed to have a Staff meeting next Tuesday and maybe a Ceremonial before lone. I just don’t know when, everything has been so busy. Optimism: Remember that the “Glass is half full.” Don’t let negativity invade our temple. There are many speed bumps in life and it is through these obstacles that we become better and stronger. Offer encouragement to those Nobles that are in need and strive to be a role model for right thinking and acting. Work continuously towards integrating fun and excitement in our temple as this is the only way to keep our Nobles interested and attending. Did you get your new potatoes in the ground on February 20th? I think that is when you should do that. I used to grow lots of them when I lived in Millville. Ground didn’t look too good, but it grew good potatoes. Nurturing: We as men may not think of this one much. We need to provide support and assistance for our Nobles inside and outside of our Temple gates. We are Master Masons first and taught to assist a brother if we are able. We often times forget about this when our own lives become hectic. Please take a moment to remember those Nobles in sickness and distress and those Nobles that are new to our Fraternity as this organization should be a strong support system for all Nobles. Well, just wanted to say “Hi” and wish you a great Spring. The Lord Bless you and yours, our Kids and our Great Nation,. I thank you for being a member of the world’s greatest fraternity. God Bless the Shrine, God Bless our Troops, and God Bless America! Shaddai April 2017 6 Ronald Chaple, PP Hi, Nobles & Ladies, Well, it has been a long time since I've put an article in the Voice. I have talked to our Potentate (Ill. Sir Mac) about an Easter Egg Hunt for our Shrine children and Temple members' children on April 15th, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Clown Unit has agreed to put one on with hot dogs and covered dishes for the meal. So, come out and enjoy this event at the Pavilion Also, while talking to Illustrious Sir Mac, he wanted to know if my wife and I would put on a Thanksgiving Dinner this year. We agreed, so the Temple will provide the turkeys and hams. It will be a covered dish affair starting at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 23, 2017. Make plans to attend and bring your family (with covered dishes, of course). The last one we had there were over 120 people attending. Let's make it even bigger this year. Well, that does it for now.
