Aztec Residential pre booking information
Aztec Adventure are pleased to offer 5 day, 4 night residential opportunities to complete the
residential section of your Gold DofE, accommodation is available in our bunkhouse located
at Upton Warren, Bromsgrove, Worcester just off the M5. All our courses are qualification
based either in sailing or canoe/kayak – depending on the groups desire and weather
conditions during the week. Group sizes are between 5 and 12 participants (DofE requires a
minimum of 5 participants on the course and only 2 people from the same organisation).
Before your arrival you will need to research information about BCU 1 Star and Level
1 Sailing (DofE requirement). You are required to bring along your log cards from
your DofE Welcome Pack or your eDofE number, unfortunately without this we cannot
sign you off for the course.
Please ensure that you bring a packed lunch for the first day of the course.
On arrival at our activity based centre we will begin the week with ice breakers and team
building to get to know each other and plan your week’s activities.
A food budget will be allocated at the start of the week and as a team you will plan and budget
for all of your supplies for the week ahead. Please note: The consumption of alcohol is not
permitted on our DofE Residential course and we require that participants do not
consume alcohol before taking part in activities.
The aim of this residential is to acquire training and assessment to achieve a recognized
BCU/RYA qualification. Full training on your specific chosen activity will be provided with
qualified RYA/BCU instructors to help you gain your qualifications, all equipment will be
provided. During your visit to us you will need to conduct your behaviour within the DofE
ethos and Aztec Adventure Terms & Conditions – we reserve the right to remove you from

Canoe/Kayak - Instructed by experienced qualified
British Canoe Union coaches, gain the knowledge and
experience to maneuver your single kayak and 2 man
Canadian canoes, you will gain BCU 1 Star award during
the duration of the course and you will paddle 4 different
boats which will test your ability and communication
skills. With this qualification you will be able to show
experience and capability to join most canoe clubs within
the UK and will allow progression towards instructor
courses.
Sailing- Under the guidance of a Royal Yachting
Association instructor learn to sail single and
double handed dinghies around our lake. The
course will include handling techniques and
background knowledge. This Level 1 is a prerequisite for most local sailing clubs and allows
progression towards instructor courses.
Certificates will be issued and logbooks are
available to purchase from the centre.
Once you have gained your qualification other activities may be available, including evening
activities. These could include the following (subject to availability):
Bushcraft / Fire lighting – using our 20 acres of
woodland during the evening we will teach you how to
safely light fires using friction and different types of
tinder natural and man-made, if time allows and the
group wish the evening could finish with dinner cooked
over an open fire and a sing-a-long.
High Ropes / Medium Ropes – on our purpose built
high and medium ropes course why not try balancing
on top of a pole, climbing a Jacobs Ladder and if you
really dare take on our Cows Tail course!
Giant Swing – commonly known as a G3 Swing, work
together to hoist your fellow candidates around ten
meters in the air for an exhilarating ride.
Archery – have a go at shooting for gold on our
archery range.
Local River or Canal Trip (canoe) – take a trip
down the local River Severn or River Wye or on the
local Worcester to Birmingham Canal in open canoes
and see the breathtaking scenery of Worcestershire
from a different perspective.
Rock climbing – challenge yourself to the top of
one of our 2 purpose built climbing walls, challenge
each other to see who can get to the top the fastest.
One of our qualified instructors will be on site for the duration of your stay with us, making
sure that your time with us is enjoyable and successful.
