High safety for high-risk patients
In line with the motto “Surgical innovation is our passion”, KLS Martin has
developed a new method called Sternal Talon® that allows you to close the
sternum safely and securely. With this product, the two halves of the split
sternum are pulled together for rigid fixation while bone penetration is prevented at the same time. The special design of the system ensures that the
forces involved are distributed across a large bone surface – a significant
advantage, especially with regard to high-risk patients. The revolutionary
Sternal Talon® is made of biocompatible titanium. It is easy to implant –
and can be opened just as fast and easily in a case of emergency immediately after the operation.
What facilitates the surgeon’s work a great deal on the one hand, means
higher comfort for the patients on the other hand. A firm sternal closure,
stable under load immediately after the intervention, less complications
and usually a faster return to normal life – these benefits translate into
a real plus in the quality of life for any patient.

The Sternal Talon® is available in two basic versions: Single and Double.
Both versions consist of two parts that are simply pushed together to close
the sternum. Intraoperative placement involves just three simple steps.
Thus, the sternum can be securely closed in a fast and uncomplicated process.

A special ratchet mechanism ensures that the Sternal Talon®
implants can be opened and closed with ease. Depending
on the position of the three-position screw on the face of the
implant, the mechanism engages or unlocks.

inserted at an angle of 45 degrees
and then aligned parallel to the
sternum.
Close and lock

The three-position screw of the Sternal Talon®
is rotated to the Closing position. This engages
the ratchet mechanism. A reduction clamp is
then used to press the two halves together.
Once the implant has been firmly closed, the
three-position screw is turned to the Locked
position. This locks the implant securely.

Thanks to the simplicity of the ratchet mechanism,
Sternal Talon® implants can be opened most easily
in case of an emergency immediately after the
operation.

Sternal Talon®Implant versions
All Sternal Talon® implants consist of two parts. The system is available
in a single and double version, sterile and separately packed. The single
version is available in five widths XS, S, M, L, XL and the double version
is available in two widths S and M. Both versions are available in four
foot plate depths: 11 mm, 14 mm, 17 mm, and 20 mm.
