1966. Miranda v. Arizona an extension of the
Escobeda v Illinoirs specifying four warnings
that must be administered by police at the time of
arrest, prior to beginning interrogation:
The ’’Miranda Rules’’ require that an arrested person:
(1) Be told of this right to remain silent;

(2) Be told that anything he says can be used against the
accused in court;
Tev ir tiesības konsultēties ar advokātu!
(3) Be told that he has a right to consult with counsel

counsel does not constitute waiver of the right,
(4) Be told that counsel will be provided to the accused
in the event he cannot afford counsel.
