Surely Melanie, from a previously advantaged background and living in Norwood, can’t be blamed TADSA Some facts about TB g We can expect an increase in the number of TB cases our workplace will have to deal with g We can expect an increase in TB in ‘non-traditional’ populations - we tend to associate TB with the poor and poor living conditions g A person with TB is only infectious for the first 2 weeks of (correct) treatment g People diagnosed with TB should be given 2 weeks sick leave g After 2 weeks they should be reassessed TADSA Some facts about TB g After 2 weeks they can return to work without putting co-workers at risk. They are no longer infectious and pose no threat, even to HIV positive persons. g TB patients on correct treatment will not infect other people TADSA ISSUES TO BE DEALT WITH IN THE WORKPLACE TADSA Stigma The person with TB: g Fears death g Feels shame g Fears having HIV TADSA Colleagues g Fear being infected g Feel anger at being at risk g Feel guilty about their attitude TADSA Employers g Fear loss of production g Fear possible industrial action g Are generally ignorant about TB g Are open to persons who abuse their ignorance TADSA Issues to be dealt with in the workplace Not everyone with TB has HIV Not everyone with HIV has TB Management needs to be informed All employees need to be informed Correct information is the weapon to slay the deadly twins TADSA Thank You TADSA
