Family Education and Training provides trainings to families of individuals under the age of 18. The purpose of these sessions is to
enhance the decision making capacity of the family unit, provide orientation regarding the nature and impact of developmental
disabilities upon the individual and his or her family, and to inform families about available services. Family Education and Training
offers a variety of educational and informative sessions.
For questions regarding Family Education Training, or to register for FET, please contact your Service Coordinator. Your Service

individuals for all FET sessions.

Stables
This session focuses on an alternative way to help serve at-risk
youth, children with Autism, Aspberger’s, ADHD, OCD, GAD,
Cerebral Palsy, developmental disabilities, Downs Syndrome,
visual or hearing impairment, physical disabilities, learning
difficulties, social or emotional challenges, as well as children
and teens facing life transitions such as divorce, loss, neglect,
abuse or trauma

This session will introduce families to Parent
Support Group Services and Sib Shop. Presenters
will focus on the benefits to each program, activities,
topics, meeting times and registration process.
This session will provide information on how
viscosity of water provides resistance for strength
training and why warm water stimulates body
awareness, balance, and trunk stability.
Demonstration will be given. Suits are not needed.

Behavior
Power of Theatre
This session looks at what happens before, during and
after a behavior occurs to help understand the purpose
of behavior. We explore different types of motivators
as well as ideas on how to address challenging
behaviors and implement positive behavioral support
techniques for the child with disabilities.
This session will focus on the abilities individuals
have in expressing themselves through acting and
singing along with the benefits theatre provides for
mental, emotional, social and physical well-being.

This session discusses awareness of services provided
to children with developmental disabilities in the
school system and how to advocate for them with
particular focus on your child’s IEP.
This session will explain how a person centered and
strength based approach to art is a unique and
valuable approach to allowing your child to
experience their creativity.
This session will focus on the importance to early
intervention, how to obtain early intervention, and
what to look for when searching for early
intervention services.

This session will focus on the opportunities that are
available through waiver based Recreation Program
and grant funded Skill Building Program.
This session will explore how massage, touch and
cranial therapies are effective in the treatment of
disorders such as Autism, Learning Disabilities,
Tourette’s, TBI, Down Syndrome, Sensory, Anxiety,
Speech Delays, Motor Fine and Gross Delays,
Behaviors, etc…This session is led by Kim Corpus,
CPMS, the only pediatric/adolescent certified
massage practitioner & educator in Rochester, NY
This session covers basic information and strategies
on kitchen and fire safety with your child during the
holidays. Presentation of online links for parents to
utilize will be given. Time for questions or concerns
from parents will be provided.
