PIANO HONORS EVALUATIONS Saturday, April 29, 2017 1:00pm–6:00pm The Piano Honors Evaluations are open to fully enrolled* Brookline Music School students. The evaluations are intended to provide a valuable learning experience for young musicians, allowing them the opportunity to prepare repertoire to the highest of their ability and receive constructive and objective feedback from distinguished guest judges. Students of all levels and styles are welcome and encouraged to participate! *Students participating in Evaluations at Brookline Music School must be enrolled in private lessons at BMS (minimum 30-minute weekly lessons) for the entire school year (Terms I and II). Repertoire Requirements Students may prepare a single piece, or two contrasting selections. Individual Evaluations will not exceed 12 minutes. If a performer’s repertoire exceeds 12 minutes, the judges will hear excerpts. Memorization is not required, but strongly encouraged. Students must perform from memory in order to be considered for a Gold Medal. Participants should be prepared to play confidently and with attention to musical detail, in addition to accurate performance of the score. Awards Students will not compete against one another, but will play to receive a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Medal, at the discretion of the judges. Additionally, Six Gold Medal recipients will be invited at the judges’ recommendation to perform in the Honors Recital, April 30 at 2:00pm. All award recipients will receive a certificate, medal, and written comments. Additional Information: • • • • • • Students 18 years of age and younger are invited to participate. If a participant has studied less than a full semester (<16 lessons) with his/her current teacher, the name of the previous BMS teacher must be provided. Participants must bring a clean copy of each score, with measures numbered, for the judges. Judges may stop contestants at any time and may not hear complete selections. Students who prepare more than the allotted time will not be penalized. Applications can be obtained from your teacher or the BMS office. Students will be assigned an individual evaluation time. All applicants will receive notification of evaluation time by email no later than Saturday, April 15th.
