I am known as the “Human Band-Aid” because I like to fix problems between people and states that have conflicts with each other. I helped with the Missouri Compromise of 1820, the Tariff Compromise of 1833 and the Compromise of 1850. I am known for being a part of a landmark court case, Dred Scott v. Sanford. I fought for my freedom but was denied by Chief Justice Roger Taney’s decision in my case because he thinks of me as someone’s property. I am known for being a leader of the Transcendentalism movement. I practiced civil disobedience and wrote several poems. I am known for being a white abolitionist after hearing about the Fugitive Slave Law. I wrote a novel called “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”, it showed people the evils of slavery and the injustice of the Fugitive Slave Law. My book became the best seller and forced people to see slavery as a moral issue. I am known for being a white abolitionist from Boston. I was almost killed by an angry mob because of my anti- slavery beliefs. I published an anti slavery newspaper, The Liberator and organized the New England Anti Slavery Society. I am known for being a leader in the Transcendentalism and an American Poet. I urged people to listen to their inner voice of conscience and overcome prejudice. I am known for being an educator. I became the leader of education reform and in 1839, I founded the nation's first state- supported school where it trained high- school graduates as teachers. I am known for being a reformist. I was a school teacher and made it my life’s work to educate the public about the poor conditions for prisoners and the mentally ill. I also helped reform the hospital procedures and conditions. I am known for being an American poet. I captured the new American spirit and confidence in my works “Leave of grass.” I am known for being born into slavery in New York. I ran away from my slave owner. I never knew how to read or write but that did not stop me from touring the North and speaking to large crowds about slavery and women’s rights. My most famous speech is “Ain’t I a woman.” I am known for being a women’s rights advocate. With my BFF Susan B, Anthony we worked for women’s rights and temperance movement. I helped organized the Daughters of Temperance and helped with the first women’s suffrage conference in Seneca Falls, NY. I am known for being a women’s rights advocate. I am known for being born into slavery in Maryland. I escaped from my slave owner and became a Conductor on the Underground Railroad. I helped hundreds of slaves escape to freedom. I am known for being a runaway slave from Maryland. I taught myself how to read and write. I lectured about slavery and wrote an autobiography about my experiences as a slave. I also published a newspaper called the North Star.
