Katie manages SUN School operations. It’s her job to make sure that students and families have access to
the services that they need to be successful in school and in life by supporting all of our SUN staff and
community partners in doing their work. She’s always a great first stopping point if you’re wondering
what’s available for a student or family who you’ve noticed needs a little extra support.

Hailey coordinates academic services for students including making sure they’re connected to
appropriate tutors after school. She’ll be stepping up to take over managing SUN operations around
October through January while Katie is out on leave.
Madi Taylor, Extended Day and Family Engagement Coordinator,
Food For Families Pantry Coordinator, Impact NW
Madi is in charge of extended day programming and coordinating family events for SUN. She also works
to increase food accessibility in Centennial High school by managing the operations of Food For Families.
You’ll see Madi most often in the halls after school and bustling to organize family events. She’s also in
the SUN office throughout the day and is the right person to see for ideas for after-school classes or to
send a student to with questions about how to sign up for any of our SUN classes.

Amy works with students who are truant or at risk of becoming truant. Currently she is offering one-onone case management, a Trauma Recovery group, and a life skills group for juniors and seniors.
Northwest Family Services also provides Alcohol and Drug counseling services that Amy can help connect
students to.
Betty Munoz, Junior Coach, College Possible

Betty and the College Possible team support enrolled students in their junior and senior years of high
school. They help prepare them for the college process including ACT prep, college and scholarship
application support, financial literacy, and curriculum building non-cognitive skills. Students receive
intensive support from a near peer College Possible coach in session twice a week after school, Monday
through Thursday.
Chelsea Ruede, SUN School Enrichment Classes & Family Outreach Coordinator
Chelsea facilitates enrichment courses within the SUN Community School that focus on creativity,
leadership, and group participation. Chelsea also connects with families of students to facilitate their
understanding of SUN, Centennial HS, and their student!

Corinne provides outpatient mental health counseling for students on the CHS campus who are struggling
with Depression, Anxiety, lagging social skills, Trauma, PTSD, ADHD, suicidal ideation, mood regulation,
school avoidance and other mental health issues. Corinne’s services include, individual therapy, family
therapy, medication management, skills training, psychiatric assessment, treatment groups, and
consultation. Referrals go through the counseling office!

Our SBHC team provides access to comprehensive preventative, primary and mental health care for school-aged youth
to keep them healthy and ready to learn. Included in these services are routine exams and physicals, immunizations,
mental health services, reproductive health care, routine lab tests, prescription medications, health education and
wellness promotion and referrals to additional healthcare services. Services are free and are available regardless of
insurance or immigration status. The clinic is open Monday through Friday 7:45am-3:45pm and until 5:45pm Tuesdays.
Kate Thomas, Counselor (MHC), School Based Health Center
Kate is the Mental Health Counselor in the CHS School Based Health Center. She provides therapeutic
services to students through the clinic. Additionally, Kate will be running a group called Peace Team,
after-school during SUN programming. Peace Team will be a student driven space where participants
will practice relaxation and stress management strategies while working together to create a safe space
for all of the participants. Students must be signed up for Peace Team through the SUN Office.

Karen leads a parent’s program called Colegio de Padres. Colegio de Padres offers workshops and
resources that help parents understand the educational system in the U.S. and the challenges facing their
children. Workshops include: Checking grades online, meeting with teachers/principals, saving for
college, discussing health & sexuality, monitoring social media usage, advocacy training and biculturalism.
Mallory Luteran, MSW Intern, Northwest Family Services
Mallory is earning her MSW at George Fox University and is working for NWFS Truancy and Suicide
Prevention projects at Centennial. She’ll be working closely with the other NWFS staff and will be
providing case management focused on academic and mental health support. Mallory will be interning
Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:00 to 5:00 PM.
Margaret Spurlock, Program Coordinator, School-Based Health Center Program
Margaret facilitates the Youth Advisory Council, which meets before school on Wednesdays, and Youth
Advisory Council – Research Team, which meets after school on Mondays. Youth Advisory Council is a
youth-driven group that promotes wellness through leadership, education and advocacy. YAC is open to
all students interested in making a difference by raising awareness about health issues, advocating to
make our school a healthier pace and advising the health center on issues that matter to students.
Matthew Robinson, SUN Tutoring Coordinator, Impact NW
Nai Saephanhn, SUN Tutoring Coordinator, Impact NW
Matthew and Nai are after-school Tutoring Coordinators who work in the library with
our peer tutors. They are the first faces students will see if they come to the library to
do homework or for tutoring. A great way to support students who might be reluctant
or nervous about attending tutoring is to take them to the library right when the bell
rings and to introduce them to Matthew and Nai.
Nicole Burnett, Academic Engagement Specialist, Pathways to Manufacturing, Impact NW
Nicole runs the CHS Pathways to Manufacturing class which works with several Portland area high
schools to provide students exposure and training for careers in advanced manufacturing and skilled
trades. She also provides attendance support for up to 20 students at a time who are working to
improve their school day attendance and overall academic success.
Paula Mena, Bilingual Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Northwest Family Services
Paula provides culturally-specific Alcohol and Drug prevention and treatment to Latino students with a

Raquel Barajas, Urban Opportunities Program Specialist, Impact NW
Raquel leads Jobs 101, a class that provide job-readiness training and placement services for youth
interested in learning how to find and retain employment, while completing their high school
education. Our class meets once weekly for 12-15 weeks, provides paid internship opportunities, as
well as career credit for students who successfully engage in and complete programming. Applications
are available in the SUN office.

TRIO College First is dedicated to making college dreams a reality for youth in East Multnomah County.
Roseann’s students are the first in their families to attend college, but they won’t be the last. TRIO
College First helps promising young people create generational change, helping students and their
families build and realize a vision for themselves as college graduates.

Teaghan Phillips, Youth Engagement Specialist, Latino Network

Teaghan leads Early Escalera, an after-school, enrichment program serving 9th and 10th grade
students with a focus on serving Latino students (but open to students of all backgrounds). Students
build leadership skills, self-advocacy, and strengthen cultural identity. Through field trips, service
learning, college visits, and job shadowing; students engage in interactive learning opportunities and
hands-on experience.
