The Ides of March has

Spring Sucks
I very much dislike spring. It is
just a big wet mess with lots of potholes. Even though it means summer is
coming, it also means it is the end of
winter and hockey season.
Spring may be the transition to our favourite warm season but it comes with
drawbacks. The weather is constantly
changing in spring. One day it is hot and
sunny, the next day it is cold and
cloudy. When it is warm and sunny all
the snow melts making a muddy, disgusting, slushy substance. This slush is
the worst thing ever. It gets on your
clothes, ruins your shoes and even manages to make the floors in your house
dirty. This stuff gets on our clothes even
if you only have to walk 10 feet. It is so
annoying because your clothes are always dirty creating more laundry for
you to do. Not fun. The mud in the slush
loves to stick to your shoes like glue.
All of this put together just makes you
look like you rolled in mud like a pig.
Another thing I really hate about spring
is when the slush freezes. It seems like it
is twice as slippery as normal ice. It is
dirty and dangerous. The weather is so
confusing and never constant.
This spring I have experienced a new
spring challenge, driving. It’s not just
the cleanliness of your vehicle you have
to worry about in spring. When you are
driving through a big pile of slush you
almost get stuck. When you eventually
push through, your back end has next to
no traction so you are just fishtailing.
This can be very dangerous and scary.
Another thing when driving is that your
pants will get dirty because sometimes
you just brush the vehicle when getting
in because your vehicle is ALWAYS
dirty! It is so annoying.
Overall, spring is just a big wet mess.
I’m sure if it were to go away nobody
would miss it at all. Spring sucks.

Canada travelling to visit the United States
In nearly 20 years the Canadian Prime Minister has not visited the United States of
America. On March 10 there was an official
welcome by the Obamas for Mr. Trudeau
and his wife to visit and attend a state dinner
at the White House.
This visit was to renew the relationship,
between the U.S.A and Canada. The two
leaders will have the opportunity to talk
about issues such as energy and climate
change and security and the countries’ economic relationship.
Trudeau’s plane touched down on Wednesday at Andrews Air Force Base and he began his three day visit. He arrived with his
wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau and their
three young children. After landing he was
taken to a reception at the Smithsonian
American Art Museum. Both leaders, who
are progressive, forward-looking and have
very similar common values and agendas,

“Make America Great Again”
Ten Things To Do On Spring Break In Winnipeg
You cannot watch the news these days
without hearing a story about the
American Presidential election. The
American campaigns get more air
time on our Canadian stations than
our own provincial election does.
Everyone knows that there is an election in America but some people are
not even aware that there will be a
provincial election this year! Even the
people that are ignorant about what
goes on in our country can tell you at
least one of the nominees for the Presidential election is Donald Trump.
Everyone knows that he is running for
the Republican Party nomination and
what he stands for and everyone is
terrified.
Donald Trump’s campaign
slogan is “Make America Great
Again” and yet Trump has only managed to only to the opposite according
to most people. He has made racist
comments, sexist comments, homophobic comments and just about any
other offensive thing he could think
of. His only supporters seem to be
middle aged white men that are direct
copies of himself. These comments
and opinions are exactly what Trump
has based his political campaign on.
Trump has promoted violence against
those who go against his political
beliefs and he has thrown the country
into civil unrest with two sides: those
who support Trump and those who do
not. Sure in his own eyes he will be
making America great again but to the
main populace he is bringing America

Academy Award Controversies
An Academy Award, or Oscar’as
we are most familiar with, is one of
the highest honours a member of
the film industry can receive. However, the 2016 Oscar’s endured a
boycott from celebrities such as
Will and Jada Smith because of the
lack of diversity in the nominees.
This is the second year in a row
that this situation has occurred
causing uproar on social media.
Many artists and supporters tweeted
using the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite
and even musician 50cent asked
host Chris Rock (who is African
American) to step down.
though he acted amazingly in this
much anticipated spinoff. Will
Smith’s critically acclaimed movie
‘Concussion’, about the conspiracy’s in the NFL and the information
involving brain injuries, was also
not nominated.
Many people have become vocal
about how the Academy Awards
are racist. However, it was not even
5 years ago that Lupita Nyong’o
won for her heart wrenching performance in ’12 Years A Slave’ and
became the first African woman to
win Best Supporting Actress. This
was a moment of pride amongst the
industry as there was no argument

spoken out and recognized that this
racism extends much further than
just the Academy.
Regardless of the controversy, the
88th Academy Awards held many
surprises as ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’
swept 6 awards and Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Oscar for Best
Actor in ‘The Revenant’. As we
continue into 2016, we can only
wish for more incredible movies to

March Madness Returns
It’s that time of year again, time for
the pinnacle of the D1 NCAA basketball season: March Madness.
With Selection Sunday to confirm
the final bracket for the massive
tournament on the 13th, fans across
North America are already making
their selections and calculations on
who will win it all. A few teams
have already made the tournament
and will have to sit and wait
for the rest of the games to
wrap up. The madness goes
from the 15th of March into
early April as multiple
teams get eliminated each
round, until only two teams
remain to fight for the trophy. Last
year’s champ Duke University is
ready to make another run to the
title but many top teams like Michigan State and Villanova stand in
their way. The tournament is set up
in a sudden death form, meaning
that if you lose you are done and
your season is over. Every year
there are many upsets that no one
could have predicted and these upsets often make or break a person’s
bracket. Anybody can be a winner
in March; that’s what fuels the
madness!
