more than last year! All the extra money we make for the year will go directly back to the
school. This extra money we plan to use to help purchase math manipulatives for a new
Goodwin math initiative-guided math groups. Mr. Ulrich shared that the pilot teachers are
seeing a benefit to working with smaller groups of students

Committee Reports
Daddy/Daughter Date Night: Donna Sweeney
Thursday March 2nd 7-9pm
DJ and photo booth hired, 30 min time slots, 20 tix per time slot, if there’s time at the end,
we will sell more tix. A sign-up for donations and volunteers to decorate went out last week,
but because a few of us didn’t catch that last week, Brian offered to send it out again and
put it on our events page. Goal is to make $200 with the photo booth to break even with
paying over the budget for that item. Per January’s meeting, we are tabling the discussion
of changing the name to be more inclusive of girls that don’t have a father-figure. We will
look at that idea next year, but the Facebook event made a point to tell the Goodwin girls to
invite someone special.
Pizza Fundraiser: Cala Brown
Delivery is TOMORROW (February 3rd) Truck delivery is hopefully about 2pm. Mrs. K says
the gym is open starting at 1:20. Sorting and delivery will be from delivery to 7pm.
Box Tops: Brian LoCicero
Box Tops due March 1st, we seem down quite a bit from last year.
Meal Nights: Brian LoCicero
February 8th, Orchard Rd. Chipotle Night. We get 50% of the profits so please come out
and attend. 5-8pm. Be sure to tell the cashier you are from Goodwin.
Portillo’s Nights is on hold for now. They wanted us to commit to 75 families and we didn’t
feel we could do this.
Adult Night: Lisa Samp
Crosstown Pub, we had about 50 people, played trivia…went well, we made some money,
only spent $57.
SCAC: Cala Brown
School Board and Mayoral Candidate Forum-taking place after the primaries in February. This will be
March 15th at Aurora University at 6:30pm for school board, 7:30 is the Mayoral candidates. Hoping
to get the political science classes at West to help out and get them excited about the process. They
want to get people to submit questions for these candidates.
Brought in 2 directors of the Blackhawk Campus to discuss what’s happening there. It is located on
Randall Rd near IMSA. Eventually this program will be moved into the old Dreyer Medical building
SUCCESS program-Students Understand that Correct Choices Equals Scholastic Success.
Alternative school to help students that are in danger of dropping out/academic warning…includes 1
class of middle school too.
Special Education Director-2000 students in SPED in D129 which includes all levels of services.
The district is updating their Rights and Responsibilities-Code of Conduct book. Let Cala or Lisa

Wizards 2017: Brian LoCicero
We are looking for committee heads. We need 1 committee head, then several subcommittee chairs: 1 for tickets, 1 for concessions, 1 for coordinating volunteers, and 1 for
sponsors.
Our date needs to change because of West’s Homecoming. The next Friday night they
have available is October 20th. Brian will contact the Wizards and put us down for that date.
Mr. Carlsen’s wedding might be this weekend, so we might lose several staff members to
help.
PTO Awards: Sharon Wagner
Due March 10th. New forms. Nominate people please! Because we are a 1st year PTO,
EVERYONE is able to be nominated, even if they have been a previous award winner.
Reading Incentives: Cala Brown reporting
Six Flags incentive has ended. Ozzie’s Reading Club is currently going on and fliers should
have been sent home this week.
Old Business-none
New Business
Brian LoCicero created a note that will go out to the Goodwin community, explaining we are
taking a break from the annual fun fair, but will be looking at fun spring event that allows
families to come together for free.
Jen Yusi and Sharon Wagner have graciously offered to help plan a low-cost, no-fuss family
spring event that can also give us another opportunity to help raise additional funds for the
math manipulatives.

Went to several schools around the area. McDole (Batavia) is very similar to our school
with regards to class size, reductions.
Benefits seen during the visits: students are actively engaged, content can be
differentiated, teachers can make connections with students and have more conversations
about problem solving, K-6 common language and procedures, and teachers are able to do
flex grouping as students’ needs change.
Common Language: M-Math Facts, A-At Seat, T-Math with Teacher, H-Hands on
It’s okay if you don’t meet with a group every day, so this allows flexibility when certain
groups need more time at a particular station.
We are using Versa-tiles & typical math manipulatives too. Discussion at the building level
to pool the resources we already have before buying more items.
We want groups of no more than 7 students. We also need to reallocate building
technology to ensure all classrooms have some technology to use. Possible ideas are to
break apart the carts or change up the computer lab.
Shared pics of great ideas and ways procedures/systems were in place. Teachers loved
the “Must do, may do” approach so kids know what’s expected of them.
Also are talking about having a math block-60-70 minute window in 1st-5th grade
classrooms. Another idea is having a math intervention during that block of math time.
CHAMPs ideas-teachers really liked this system, which is a way to consistently, across a
building, set expectations for students’ behavior.
Timeline for implementation-Pilots are now in place at 4 grade levels, looking to roll out with
full implementation to start the 17-18 school year, purchase materials at the end of this
school year by grade level.
Q&A-District-level initiative? No, this is building level, but all buildings are really trying to
improve their math instruction.
If you’d like to know what group your child is in, be sure to ask their teacher.
Homogenous vs. Heterogeneous groupings, Kaneland did homogenous groupings, we will
be looking at everyone’s opinions about how small groups will be formed.
Performance Series is over-the students met their GOAL!!! We are going to have our
bounce-house celebration on February 17th in the gym. Lunch will be in the classrooms to
accommodate the gym being used. We are not sure if we need volunteers yet. We will
have 3 bouncers, kids will have about 45 minutes.
Completed our data days where teachers are subbed out so they can look more in-depth at
the data.
Dr. Cool and Pride Assembly-March 2nd, 45 minutes, reward our students for their behavior,
and PTO is paying for this. Thank you for providing the resources for this assembly and all
the other wonderful things you do.
PARCC-Testing window is March 13th-April 13th and hope to be finished March 22nd.
