Dear Parent, So sorry about the confusion of the Monterey Bay

Issue #35
Glenmoor Wildcats
Dear Parent,
So sorry about the confusion of the
Monterey Bay Aquarium Trip. It IS FRIDAY,
JUNE 6TH.
Please turn in your permission slip if you
have not done so already. The money can folIow
later. I will be confirming the number of seats on
the bus (in past it has been 54). This means I
have enough seats for 26 students, 1 teacher and
27 parents. All students must ride on the bus,
however if you prefer to follow in your car that
is fine. In fact some people may want to car pool
together.
My goal is to have everyone attend. If
there is a financial problem, PLEASE see me. It is
such a fantastic trip.
In reading readiness we will learn the
sounds of Jj as in jump and Qq as in Queen. Our
new and last unit 10 is What I know. We will be
talking about all the things we have learned this
year. Our new sight words will with and my. We
will review she, he, has and look.
We are making a book talking about the
difference between, amphibians, birds, reptiles,
mammals, and fish. Some animals have fur, or
feathers, or scales. The one thing they all have in
common is that all living things need water, food,
and air. Animals also need a safe shelter to live.
We are learning about habitats.
We will focus on mammals and fish in the
next couple of weeks. Our biggest mammal is the
blue whale. We will be learning about other sea
life too. This will also prepare us for our trip to
Monterey Bay Aquarium.
In math we will continue working in
numbers 10 and _____ more. We will review 3D shapes—cone, sphere, and cylinder. What is the
difference between a flat shape and 3-D shape?
What flat shapes make up the 3-D shape? At
May 19, 2014
home if you see a 3-D shape use the name of the
shape and talk about it. A cereal box is a
rectangle prism, a ball is sphere, a construction
cone is a cone, and can is a cylinder. We will
discuss the side, corners and faces of 3D shapes.
Please keep up with the writing. The
sentences do not have to be complex. Writing is
a form of communication. They need to show
that they can start with a capital, spacing,
ending marks, and they are writing on topic.
Tuesday, May 27th is our Open House.
Open House is designed for your child to show
you his/her classroom. They have some fun
activities and projects to show you. We have
things to show what we have worked on as well
as preview of what is to come. You can then
visit other grade levels to see what goes on in
the “big school”. This is a time to celebrate your
child. I hope to see everyone that night.
Don’t cook, grab the kids and eat at one
of the Mafia Food Trucks! All proceeds will
support after school programs. Trucks will be
here from 5pm to 8pm, right on the school yard.
Bon Appétit!
