The site is approximately half way between the villages of
Ashley and Mobberley in the North Cheshire countryside.
There is easy access to the site from Manchester and from the
motorways (M6 and M56).

Ashley Campsite
There are a variety of camping areas situated around the 3½ acre site.
Each one has its own fireplace. The whole campsite can comfortably cope
with 120+ people depending on how friendly you want to be! There are
toilets and wash facilities in the camp toilet block.
Ashley Lodge can be booked at the same time to create a solid shelter for
campers. There is also a campfire circle, please note natural wood should
be burnt, a small assault course, zip wire and traversing wall, a story telling
chair and a quiet contemplation area. The campsite can be booked with
catering equipment (one site only).
Ashley Lodge
Ashley Lodge is a purpose built, modern wooden camping barn designed as
a wet weather shelter for camps or as overnight accommodation for older
girls, or as a meeting room and is available all year round.
Accommodation consists of:
• One large day/dining/sleeping/meeting room
• Fully fitted kitchen with gas/electric range, fridge/freezer,
microwave and toaster. Catering and dining equipment for 24
• Wet room, and washing and toilet facilities for people with
additional needs
• Bathroom with 2 flush toilets, 3 hand basins and 2 showers
• Store room for bedding and belongings
• Maximum sleeping 18 including leaders with 18 inflatable
karrimats provided. Please note there are no beds
You will need to bring:
• Sleeping bags, pillows – if sleeping
• Your own first aid kit/medical equipment/supplies
• Dishcloths
• Tea towels
• Washing-up liquid
• Toilet rolls
Arrival and departure times for Ashley Lodge should be discussed with the
Warden Coordinator.
Shop: there is a box of shop items. Please leave money in tin inside box,
thank you.
Telephone: there is no phone in Ashley Lodge. Each group should bring at
least one mobile and leave the number with the warden of the day in case
of emergency. We advise that you check reception on your pre-visit.
Information:
• Kitchen – instructions for all appliances are in a file in the kitchen
• Heating – is preset and will come on automatically
• Floors – to be brushed and mopped down after use
• Please leave muddy wellies and shoes on the veranda racks
All water/sanitation is discharged into a holding tank which needs
emptying. Please do not leave water running for long periods. Please only
use soft toilet paper and do not flush other items down the toilets.
Lighting, cooking facilities, gas central heating and hot water are included
in the fees. All are metered so please be economical where possible.
General Information
Risk Assessment
The Ashley Activity Centre and Campsite risk assessment is available online
at www.gmwguiding.org.uk/ashley. It is also each leader’s responsibility to
carry out their own event risk assessment.
Arrival and departure
A warden will welcome you on arrival. Parties coming for a week are asked
to arrive after 2:00 p.m. and to leave by noon unless special arrangements
have been made beforehand.
Parties for the weekend are asked not to arrive before 2:00 p.m. unless it is
a school holiday when other arrangements can be made.
Equipment
Equipment for playing indoor and outdoor games is available.
PLEASE NOTE: According to the Guiding Manual, parental permission is
required for girls to use the traversing wall and zip wire. It is the leader’s
responsibility to ensure that this has been obtained and to supervise the
activity.
Bicycles may be brought for off-site activities but must not be ridden on
the site.

Coaches
Breach House Lane has a sharp bend on a narrow bridge, followed
immediately by a very low railway bridge. COACHES MUST NOT APPROACH
THE SITE BY THIS ROAD – they should use Small Lane and Wood Lane (see
map). Cars may be parked on the verge along the main drive. Only cars and
light vans for Ashley Lodge should be taken beyond the field gate.
Refuse Disposal
General rubbish should be put in BLACK PLASTIC BAGS before being placed
in the dustbin by the gate. Please fasten all bags securely and ensure that
the lid is closed on the bin.
Please follow instructions on the notice board for recycling.
There is an incinerator near the Lodge and everything possible should
be burnt. When cold, the ash should be put in a bin bag. Tins should be
flattened, and put in the dustbin by the gate.
Dogs
No dogs are allowed on the site with the exception of assistance dogs. e.g.
hearing dogs.
Wood for fires
Natural wood only must be burnt on the site. Please note this when using
the campfire circle, altar fires and for patrol cooking.

FIRE
• Please practise a fire drill with the group members
• Ensure that the fire extinguishers are always accessible
• There is a fire blanket in the kitchen
The two emergency fire doors are in the main room and the kitchen.

Fire assembly point is near the garage.
A remote smoke alarm is installed and will automatically contact 3
members of the management team if it goes off. One of them will contact
you to either tell you how to reset it or come to your aid. This would only
activate for severe smoke not just burnt toast.

The person coming to see you out has been asked to check the following.
Please help to make a quick ‘get away’ for everyone by making sure that all
these have been done:
Any outside games used cleaned and returned to store room
Campfire circle cleared and surplus wood returned to woodpile
Barbeque Area Cleaned / Verandah swept
TOILETS
Toilets, wash bowls and showers clean
Sanitary bins and waste bin emptied and a clean bag in each
Floors swept and mopped
KITCHEN
Cooker, hob and microwave cleaned
Baking trays and pans clean
Fridge freezer emptied and clean
Crumbs emptied from toaster
Crockery, cutlery etc clean and put away
Breakages recorded and paid for
Sinks wiped down, boiler and kettle emptied
No food, washing up liquid, cleaning products etc left
Waste bin emptied and a clean bag inside

All rubbish removed to appropriate bins at the gate

You will appreciate that, as the upkeep of Ashley is entirely maintained by
volunteers we rely on groups leaving the Centre clean and tidy ready for
the next people coming in.

A deposit of £25.00 confirms a booking and is non-returnable unless the
Lodge can be re-let.

Campsites
Please contact Mrs Craven for details as this will depend on sites and
equipment required.
Applications should be made on the County Application Form and sent to
Mrs Eileen Craven with the appropriate deposit, which is non-returnable,
and a stamped addressed envelope. Please make cheques payable to GMW
Ashley Centre Account.
Residential event notification forms should be signed by the appropriate
Commissioner no later than 2 weeks before the event. Please allow longer
if possible.
The Arrival Form should be sent to Mrs Kath Shaw at least 2 weeks before
the date of the holiday.
The balance of the fees should be sent to Mrs Eileen Craven (address below)
at least two weeks before the holiday.
Please note: an extra charge to cover cleaning costs may be made if the
Lodge is not left in a clean and tidy condition and this could also affect
your future bookings.
