Sprinting between Southampton and West Cowes (Cowes)
our Red Jet Hi-Speed Passenger service has a crossing time
of just 25 minutes. Red Funnel operate three Hi-Speed Red
Jet catamarans which can accommodate between 170 and
270 passengers per vessel.
The Route & Passenger Profile
Approximately, 1.1 million people use the Red Jet service each year. On
average, that’s 19,000 a week or more than 2,500 per day, all of whom will
pass the digital poster sites and banners and watch the onboard screens for
the mandatory safety announcement. In conjunction with South West Trains*,
Red Funnel offer the fastest journey from the Isle of Wight to London, making
us the obvious choice for the commuter and weekend visitor. Over 60% of
Red Jet passengers fall into socio-economic classifications ABC1, perfect for
targeting a more affluent consumer.
Cowes: Cowes is famed as the birthplace of yacht racing and is home to
fabulous boutique shops. The town is well connected to Newport; the Island’s

Vehicle Ferry Service
Vehicle & Foot Passenger Service Southampton (Terminal 1) <> East Cowes, Isle of Wight
Red Funnel operates the three largest Vehicle Ferries serving the Isle of Wight
which have capacity for some 220 cars and 900 passengers. Operating
around the clock, the Vehicle Ferry service takes approximately one hour to
cruise between Southampton and East Cowes, Isle of Wight.

Approximately two million passengers travel on the vehicle ferries each year. The peak
months for travel are June, July and August, but the entire holiday season stretches from
March through to late October, with weekend breaks becoming increasingly popular through
the winter months and the service seeing significant peaks during for the Isle of Wight Festival

Southampton Boat Show
• Short breaks and self-catering breaks are popular outside the peak season. These tend
to attract consumers aged 30 to 70 from socio-economic groups ABC1.
• Traditional one or two week holidays are popular during the school holidays and attract passengers aged 25 to 60 from socio-economic groups C1, C2 and D.
• Group coach holidays attracting socio-economic groups C2DE aged 55 to 80 are popular throughout the year.
• From Easter to October significant numbers of day trips are made to the Island by families from Hampshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey and Dorset.
• Isle of Wight resident travel has similar consumer peaks and off peaks with the addition of increases in travel during November and December for Christmas retail and VFR.
East Cowes: On the Isle of Wight the service runs in and out of East Cowes at the Island’s
Central Northern tip which is ideally located for reaching all parts of the Island and is located
in close proximately to the Isle of Wight Festival and Bestival sites.
Southampton: The vehicle ferry service runs in and out of the high profile Southampton
Terminal, a short drive from West Quay shopping centre and IKEA and surrounded by the
major cruise terminals.
