GRADE REPORTING
IMPACTInstituteprogramsutilizeacompetency-basedcurriculum.Thistypeofinstructionutilizes
continuousinstructionandevaluationthroughoutthedurationoftheprogram.Evaluationofstudents
willbedonethroughvariousevaluationinstrumentsdevelopedbytheinstructor.Possiblemethods
includehands-ondemonstrations,oraltesting,writtentesting,theory,skillattainment,etc.…

DUAL CREDIT
StudentsenrolledinmostIMPACTInstituteprogramshavetheopportunitytoearndualcreditsfrom
post-secondaryinstitutions.Studentsinprogramswherecreditsareavailableareeligibletoreceive
credits,however;theyarenotguaranteedtobeawarded.Thisisbasedonpassinggradesand
assessmentsasrequiredbytheinstitution.Studentsneedtoseetheirinstructorforcomplete
information.Onceobtainingthesecredits,studentsareabletoacquireofficialtranscriptsthroughthe
institutionwherecreditswereissued.IMPACTInstitutedoesnothaveaccesstothesetranscripts.
TheIMPACTInstitutehasapolicyofprovidingequalopportunity.Allcoursesareopentostudentsregardlessofrace,color,gender,disabilities
ornationaloriginincludinglimitedEnglishproficiency.
TRANSPORTATION TO PROGRAMS
TransportationtoCareerandTechnicalEducationProgramslocatedatanotherschoolorsite(satellite
programs)maybeprovidedbythelocalschoolcorporation.Insomeschoolsystems,thestudent
providestransportation.Ineithercase,studentsMUSThavepermission,grantedbytheirhighschool
principalandtheirparents,toprovidetheirowntransportation.Pleaseseeyourhighschoolcounselor
oradministratorconcerninganytransportationquestions.
Studentswhoaregivenpermissiontodrivetotheprogramsitemustabidebythefollowingrules:
A. Thevehicleistobeparkedinanareadesignatedbytheprograminstructor.
B. Thestudentswillnotoccupythevehicleduringnormalclasstimes,includingclassbreaks.
C. Thevehiclewillbedriveninasafe,sensiblemannerwhileonschoolproperty.
VIOLATIONSOFTHEABOVERULESCOULDRESULTINSUSPENSIONOFDRIVINGPRIVILEGESTOTHE
PROGRAM.

LISTENTOTHERADIOAND/ORTELEVISIONONMORNINGSWHENWEATHERCONDITIONSARE
QUESTIONABLEANDALWAYSCONSULTYOURHOMESCHOOLIFYOUHAVEWEATHERRELATED
QUESTIONS.
IFEASTNOBLESCHOOLSCLOSEbecauseofweatherrelatedconditions,studentsshouldNOTattendany
programslocatedinKendallville:AutoBodyCollisionRepair,AutomotiveTechnology,CADDrafting,
ConstructionTrades,Cosmetology,CriminalJustice,CulinaryArts,PrimaryHealthCare,HOE-NOBLE,
Electrical,PlumbingandHVAC,PrecisionMachining,MarineMechanicsandWelding.However,ifEast
NobleSchoolshaveascheduleddelayforteachertraining/in-service,studentsshouldattendvocational
classesasnormal.IfEastNobleDelaysduetoweather,AMstudentsshouldnotattendtheprograms
listedabove.
IFPRAIRIEHEIGHTSSCHOOLSCLOSEbecauseofweatherrelatedconditions,studentsshouldNOT
attendanyprogramslocatedinLaGrangeorAngola(HOELaGrange/CJSteuben).However,ifPrairie
HeightsSchoolshaveascheduleddelayforteachertraining/in-service,studentsshouldattend
vocationalclassesasnormal.IfPrairieHeightsDelaysduetoweather,AMstudentsshouldnotattend
theprogramlistedabove.
IFLAKELANDSCHOOLSCLOSEORDELAY:becauseofweatherrelatedconditions,studentsshouldNOT
attendtheprogramlocatedinLaGrange:HOELaGrange.
IFANGOLASCHOOLSCLOSEORDELAY:becauseofweatherrelatedconditions,studentsshouldNOT
attendtheprogramlocatedinAngola:SteubenCriminalJustice.
ATTENDANCE/NON-WEATHER RELATED ISSUES
AtImpactInstitute,theexpectationisthatstudentsattendallclasseswhentheCTEProgramisin
sessionregardlessofsendingschoolcalendar.AllstudentswillreceivetheImpactInstitutecalendarat
thebeginningoftheschoolyearoutliningin-servicesandbreaks.Also,locatedattheendofthis
handbookisalistingofdatesforclosings,openhouses,in-servicedays,etc.Thesedatesmaybesubject
tochangethroughouttheyear.
TheIMPACTInstitutehasapolicyofprovidingequalopportunity.Allcoursesareopentostudentsregardlessofrace,color,gender,disabilities
ornationaloriginincludinglimitedEnglishproficiency.
Dailycommunicationwillbemaintainedwithhighschoolstoreportabsentstudents.Studentsfoundto
betruantfromtheCareerandTechnicalEducationProgramwillbedisciplinedbytheirhomehigh
school.Excessivetardinessand/orabsenteeismwillbediscussedwiththeadministratorsatthehigh
school.AREAEMPLOYERSEXPECTGOODATTENDANCEATWORK-SODOWE!TheCareerandTechnical
EducationProgramisanexcellentopportunitytoestablishhabitsofgoodattendance.
VIOLATION OF RULES
EachCareerandTechnicalEducationPrograminstructorhasestablishedasetofrulesfortheoperation
ofhis/herclass.Thismayincludeitemssuchaslabcleanliness,puttingtoolsawayandcompletionof
assignments.Eachinstructorwilladministerdisciplinaryactionsconcerningviolationsofclassrulesand
procedures.Continuedviolationsofprogramruleswillbediscussedwiththestudent’shighschool
administration.
ThehighschoolwillbenotifiedIMMEDIATELYofthefollowingsuspectedorconfirmedviolations.
ConfirmedviolationsofanyofthefollowingwillresultinImpactInstitutesrecommendationfor
immediateremovalfromprogramparticipationtothestudent’shighschool:
A. Thesale,consumption,orpossessionofalcohol,marijuana,stimulate,intoxicants,narcotics,
depressantsorhallucinogensofanykindwhichrepresenttobe,orlooklike,orprovidessimilar
effectsasoneoftheabove.
B. Possessionofanyweaponorlookalikeonschoolgrounds.
C. VandalismoftheCTEfacilityand/orequipment,includingtheft.ImpactInstitutereservesthe
righttoimmediatelyremoveanystudentcaughtstealingfromImpactproperty,students,or
staff.
D. HabitualviolationsofImpactInstitutesrulesandregulations.
E. Fightingand/orhorseplaythatputsstudent’ssafetyinanimmediatedangerousorharmful
situation.
Otherbehaviorsthatdisrupttheschooldaymayalsobereportedtohighschooladministration.The
followingareexamples:
A. Fightingand/orhorseplay
B. Thesale,possessionoruseoftobaccoortobaccoproductsorlookalike.Lookalikeproduct
examplesare(butnotlimitedto)E-Cigarettes,VapePens,etc.
C. LeavingtheCTEProgramwithoutpermission-truancy.
D. Insubordination,profanity,bullying,obsceneordegradinglanguageorgesturestoanyfellow
students,guestsofImpactInstitute,orstaffmembers.
E. Excessivetardinessorabsenteeism
F. Otherbehaviorsthatwoulddisruptfromanormalschooldayorlearningenvironment.

ornationaloriginincludinglimitedEnglishproficiency.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL PROCEDURES
CTELabsandequipmentarewellmaintainedandguardedtopreventaccidentalinjury.Studentsare
alsoprovidedsafetyinstructiononeachpieceofequipmentandareobservedbytheinstructoronthe
initialuse.Occasionally,accidentsmayoccurorcarelessnessbythestudentwillresultininjury.
Wehaveadoptedthefollowingproceduresincaseofinjury:
A. Eachprogramwillmaintainastudentemergencyrecordfileindicatingtheparent’srequestfor
medicalproviders
B. Intheeventofaseriousinjury,whichrequiresimmediatemedicalattention,thestudentwillbe
transportedtothenearesthealthfacility(oftheparentsrequest)bythelocalambulance
provider.THEPARENTORGUARDIANWILLBENOTIFIEDIMMEDIATELYOFSUCHACTION.
C. Intheeventofaminorinjury,whichisdeterminedbytheprograminstructororadministration
torequiremedicalattention,theparent/guardianwillbeinformedandexpectedtoprovidethe
necessaryproceduresformedicalservice.
D. StudentsenrolledinIMPACTInstituteCareerandTechnicalEducationprogramsaresubjectto
drugtestingiftheyareinjuredORcauseinjurytoanotherstudentorinstructorduringthe
courseoftheprogram.TheIMPACTInstitutewillpaydrug-testingfees.
STUDENTSSHOULDBECOVEREDUNDERTHEIRPARENT/GUARDIAN’SHEALTHINSURANCEPOLICY.

FEES AND OTHER PAYMENTS
1. SomeCTEProgramsrequirethepurchaseofpersonaltoolsandsafetyequipment.The
paymentsforsuchitemsmustbepaid(ifpurchasedthroughtheprogram)beforethestudentis
issuedthesaiditems.
2. StudentsmustpayforpersonalprojectmaterialspriortomovingtheprojectfromtheCTE
facility.
INTERNET USAGE
IMPACTInstituteprovidesstudentaccesstotheInternet.UseoftheInternetenablesstudentsto
explorethousandsofdatabasesandotherresourcestoenhancehis/herknowledgeandexperience.
StudentsutilizingtheIMPACTInstituteInternetcapabilitiesmustfirsthavepermissionandmustbe
supervisedbyaIMPACTInstituteInstructor.StudentsmusthavesignedtheAcceptableUsagePolicy
anditisonfileinordertouseIMPACTInstitutecomputers.
IMPACT INSTITUTE WEBSITE AND GMAIL
IMPACTInstitutemaintainsawebsitetoinformandpromoteCareerandTechnicalEducationinthefive
countyarea.Picturesofstudentsmaybeusedtoshowcasethevariousvocationalprogramsand
demonstrateaccomplishmentsofstudents.Everyeffortwillbemadetoprotecttheprivacyofthe
students.PermissiontousestudentpicturesmustbeonfilewiththeIMPACTInstituteoffice.Students
willalsohaveaccesstoGoogleApplications,whichinclude:email,calendaring,siteaccessandcreation
andmuchmore.
