How a Bill Becomes a Law The three branches of our government are executive, legislative, and judicial. The legislative branch of our state government is the branch that makes the laws. The legislative branch has two parts- the Senate and the General Assembly. New Jersey voters elect 40 senators and 80 members of the assembly. What they do is to make sure the bill becomes a law. A bill means an idea for a law. There are 5 steps to how a bill becomes a law. The citizens develop an idea for a bill. Next the members of the general assembly or senate propose the bill. Then the general assembly and the senate vote to approve the bill. The governor signs the bill or vetoes the bill. Veto means to reject. If the bill is vetoed, another vote can be taken. If 27 senators and 57 general assembly’s members vote to approve it, the bill becomes a law. Now you know how a bill becomes a law. PAGE 2 This is the real me now that you just read. Now that we just read about me on where on Who Am I? A way I would like to be described is sweet, grateful, hardworking, and brave. Why I am I sweet because I care for other people like my friends, family, and my dog. Why I am grateful is because I’m grateful for my family, my clothes, and my dog. I am hardworking because I practice cheerleading and I do my homework. I am brave because I am strong, I am not afraid, and I am not shy. I am happiest when I am doing cheerleading and family time. Why I like cheerleading is because I like being an allstar cheerleader and I like to see friends. I like my family because I like hanging out with them. My favorite things in life are my dog, nail polish, and fashion. I love my dog because he is so cute and he is so small. Why I like nail polish is because I like to go to the nail salon. Fashion is my life because I grew up with it and I love clothes especially Justice. Some other favorite things I like are the color pink, crab legs, singing, and my friends. the Political Map. Political Map A map is a tool used to find information. The four maps are the political map, transportation map, political map, and historical map. The map I am going to THE CAPERS NEWS tell you about is the political map. It shows information such as cities, states, and countries. On a political map you would find lakes ,and rivers. VOLUME 1, ISSUE 1 PAGE 3 Earth’s Layers are the crust, mantle, outer core, and inner core. The crust is the most outer layer. We also live on the crust. It is deeper under continents than oceans, and it is the thinScientists are im- nest layer. The crust is portant because they tell also the solid rock. us things about the Earth The mantle is a layer such as earthquakes, seis- of rock lying below the mic waves, and Earth crust. This layer allows layers. Earthquakes are a tectonic plates to slowly movement or vibration move. Rocks move or on the earth’s surface. A flow due to pressure and seismograph measures high temperatures. This seismic waves. Seismic is the thickest layer. waves are earthquake waves. There are four layers of the Earth. They The final layer is the core. It is in two parts. It’s called the inner core and the outer core. The outer core is totally liquid. It is made of melted iron. The inner core floats in this layer. The inner core spins at a different rate than the rest of the planet. It is a solid sphere and is also the center of the Earth. Scientists still study the Earthquakes to learn more about Earth. Earth, Sun, and Moon The Earth, Sun and Moon are all parts of the solar system. The Earth rotates, which means to spin. The Earth rotates every 24 hours which causes day and night. The Earth also revolves. Revolves means to go around an object. One revolution takes 365 ¼ days or one year. The Earth is tilted on its axis at a 23.5 degree angle. It causes seasons. The Earth’s orbit is shaped as an ellipse. The Sun is a star, and it is a hot body of gas. The Sun is the center of our solar system, and it produces heat and light. Earth’s gravity keeps the moon in Earth’s. Revolves around the earth. The Moon is Earth’s nearest neighbor. The Moon, Sun, and the Earth are all related. The earth is made out of gravity. PAGE 4 Dogs I like dog’s because they are adorable, and they keep people company. They are lovable too. Here’s my opinion. I think dogs are a popular pet to have. I like to train dogs because it is fun and cute to see them play. Most dogs like to fetch things like balls, shoes, toys, wooden sticks, and dog treats. Dogs are the best pets. The r tpes of matter are soid Some dogs don’t like to be groomed because some don’t like the water. They don’t like to get washed. That’s why owners or groomers wash dogs. Here’s my opinion. Their fur is so cute, and smooth. When there is a fire or a break in dogs bark for noise when there is danger. That’s why dogs are brave, and some aren’t smart like puppies. Puppies do not understand because there just little and confused. Maybe you should adopt a dog because they keep you company. I promise that it will love you so much and it will give kisses. Matter liquid, gas What is Matter? Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass. Properties are characteristics of something that you can observe. An example of property is color, texture, shape, size, and hardness. Three states of matter are solid, liquid, and gas. A solid has a definite shape THE CAPERS NEWS and a fixed size. The particles are packed tightly and vibrate. Some examples are a hairband, and a basketball. A liquid has no defined shape. It takes up the shape of its container. The particles move slowly, but more freely. Some examples are water, Starbucks frappichino, orange juice, milk, and spar- kling water. A gas has no definite shape, and no definite amount. The particles move fast and free. For an example, air, oxygen, and helium. All States of matter have different characteristics. VOLUME 1, ISSUE 1 PAGE Halloween Cookies One day it was a gorgeous morning with the sun rising along with the flowers blooming on a Saturday morning. I woke up at 11:30. It was late… the same time as my dog woke up. I could imagine the taste of cookies in my mind. When I got out of my bed I brushed my teeth and they were shinning like stars. I took a hot shower. I almost fell asleep C because it felt so good. My mom and I went to BJs, and we picked out the Halloween cookies. They were ghost cookies and pumpkin cookies. We paid for the cookies. They cost $1.12. We came back from the store and we washed our hands. I got my apron. Then I got out the flat pan and the cooking spray. I sprayed the cooking spray onto the pan. I placed the cookies on the pan. I let the oven heat up. I put the cookies in there. I watched them bake in the oven until they were done. They looked good to me. Now here comes the best part . . . so we bought three kids of white vanilla frostings. I put in orange food coloring in the first one. In the second one I put in black food coloring. Then in the third one I put in purple food coloring. I got a spoon. Then I got one cookie. I held it in my hand. I put orange frosting on the second cookie. I carefully put them together because they were fragile. I make a cookie sandwich. BANG!!! They were all decorated. I was so amazed!!! They were so good I could eat them all. These are my favorite cookies . Indentured Servants and Slaves Both Indentured Servants and Slaves were brought to the new world to work. They both didn't get paidd. The Indentured servants were treated like family, but the Slaves weren't treated like family. They were forced to come to the New World. However, the Indentured Servants were fed with good food, but the slaves often were not. What's different is he Slaves had to work really hard, The Servants had a great job. The Indentured Servants had an agreement with the master. Both Indentured Servants, and the Slaves both had to work. Slaves had to work for their entire lives, unlike the Indentured Servants work for 3-7 years for their master. Indentured Servants and Slaves were alike because they had a master. The Indentured Servants were like family yet the Slaves were treated poorly. The Indentured Servants were different because they were educated , they were fed, and they were taught skills. On the other hand the slaves were not fed with good foods, and they were treated poorly. 5 PAGE Polar Bears and Kodiak Bears 6 Two types of bears are Polar bears and Kodiak bears. Surprise to American Girl Bears are so scary. My favorite store in the world. On Saturday it was my birthday on 2/11. I woke up, and I was so happy! I didn’t know what to do. My mom took me to the hair salon.. The hair style that I asked for curls . The hairstylist said yes. The first step she did was take my tie out of my puffy hair. She took me to the sink. The hairstylist washed my hair like 10 times! Here comes the best part. She blow dried my hair. Then she started to straighten my hair, and she curled my hair too. She showed me the mirror . I said I looked pretty. Next my mom and I got our nails done in pretty pink color with sparkles! When my mom and I got in the car I asked where we were going next. My mom said you’ll see. We picked up Jessie that goes to school with me and my cousin Melea. My mom told Jessie and Melea don’t tell Olivia that were going to American Girl Doll in New York City. My mom was calling Raquel if she was still coming. Her mom said yes. When we got to the place I was so SURPRISED- nobody told me that we were going to American Girl. When I got there I saw my friend Raquel and my 2 cousins Gabby and Khloe. My mom planed a dinner party at American Girl. The waitress brought a pink cake with vanilla frosting and we got free ice cream. I got the girl of the year 2013. Her name was Saige. I had a fun time with my mom my friends and my family. Cheerleading It’s a really great sport. THE My favorite sport is Cheerleading. Why I like Cheerleading because when I was 5 I had to watch my Mommy coach the girls. But when I was 5 I still wanted to do cheerleading. So my Mom signed me in. I went to cheer practice. It was so much fun. I did all kinds of things like stunts, jumps, and the cheer dance. CAPERS NEWS The equipment we used is white sneakers, comfortable clothes, uniform, cheer bow, and makeup. The rules in Cheerleading are no talking in a stunt. You can go to a competition and you can get disqualified by doing back flips in a stunt. Always wear white sneakers. You have to sign in the U.S.A.F to compete. But if you don’t you can get disqualified. How many people do you need on a team? 12 or 20 or 18 girls and boys on a team to make it look right. Maybe you should do Cheerleading.
