SPELLING & WRITING:
MATH & BIBLE:
This week we have studied three types of figurative language! We
learned how to exaggerate with using hyperbole.
We brought non-human
things to life with personification. We also used
repeated consonant
sounds to create alliteration! The students are
really being creative! It’s
so fun to watch them
explore new ideas!
Your student received his
or her new spelling words
on Wednesday, May 11th.
Their test on this list will be
on Wednesday, May 18th.
Please help your students
come up with fun ways to
remember their stems! Our
goal is for no student to
have to re-take his or her
spelling test this week!
This week we have done a
lot of practice with adding
and subtracting mixed numbers. It is difficult when the
students have an improper
fraction as a part of their
mixed number. Ask them to
“teach” you how to simplify
these challenging problems!
Unit 8’s letter home was already sent, so please let me
know if you did not receive
it!
The students are continuing to record their progress in the “GENIUS
HOUR” Journals. Please
take a few minutes to
check in on your student’s progress.
This week we studied
Haiku, Tanka, and shape
poems! I gave examples
of each type of poetry.
The students also explored several poetry
books from the library to
draw inspiration from!
The students wrote a few
rough drafts for each
style of poetry!
We have been studying
the Gospels in Bible class.
The students are now focusing on the gospel of
John. We have studied the
7 “I am” statements and
chose one to illustrate. The
memory verse for May is
Ephesians 2:4-10. It’s due
on Thursday, May 26th!
Notes From The Teacher
5th Grade Recognition: On May 31 at 8:10am, we are hosting a special chapel to
honor and challenge our 5th grade students as they leave the elementary and head to
middle school. Parents are invited to join us.
Mileage Club: Mileage Club will take place April 11 - May 26 during recess. Registered LCS Kindergarten through 5th grade students may take part in the program on
Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays, weather permitting. We will try to offer 1-2 make up
days if needed near the end of the program season.
