Journal Writing
Writing in a journal is a great way to keep track of things in your life. A journal can also be called a diary.
Writers use journals to record their thoughts and ideas. Some people use journals to collect story ideas. Others
write about bad days or happy times. Keeping a journal can help you reflect or think about what is happening in
your life. When you read what you have written in your journal, you can learn from your everyday experiences.
It doesn’t take any fancy materials to start a journal. You can start with a simple notebook and a pen or a
pencil. You can get a special notebook if you want to make your journal more fancy. You can also use a
computer to start your journal. The important thing is to record your thoughts and ideas. You can write them on
paper or you can type them, whichever way is the best for you.
Try to write in your journal every day. You don’t need to write for a long period of time, maybe only five or
ten minutes, at first. As you keep practicing, you may find that you want to write for a few more minutes. Writing
in a journal is a good way to practice your writing skills. Even though your journal is filled with your own words, try
to use your best handwriting (if you’re writing in a notebook). You want to be able to read what you have written!
Also, try to spell words correctly and use complete sentences. Working on these skills will help you become a
better writer.
Another secret to journal writing is to keep track of your writing. Put the date on each piece. This will help
you remember when things happened. Every week or so, go back and read what you have written. You might
find that something that seemed important has been forgotten. You might also find words that surprise you.
Whatever the case, keep writing. You may be surprised at how much you have to say.
