Scholarship Awards

Conservatory Scholarships including the Walnut Hill Achievement Scholarships are based on an
appraisal of ability, potential and academic standing.
 Scholarship awards are divided into two equal amounts and are credited to the student’s account each
semester for as long as the published length of the student’s program. For ex: 4 years for an
undergraduate, 2 years for a student in the Master’s program.
 Scholarships are awarded with the understanding that the recipient will be available for performance
activities as required by the Conservatory. It is understood that some of these activities, such as chorus,
musical theater & opera orchestras, symphony orchestras, accompanying, chamber ensembles, dance &
theater performance, etc. may be in addition to curricular requirements.
 Some Conservatory Scholarships are underwritten, in full or in part, by specific benefactors. If a student
is identified as a recipient of such a Conservatory award, s/he will be subsequently notified of this honor
and will be asked to attend an event in the benefactors’ honor.
 Scholarship recipients must be enrolled on a full-time basis, according to the requirements of their degree
or diploma programs, and must successfully complete enough courses to equal full-time enrollment each
semester.
 The maximum scholarship offered covers tuition and the comprehensive fee only. It does not cover
medical insurance, the medical evacuation fee, room and board or any other charges. Most students do
not receive the maximum scholarship.
 Any scholarship(s) that exceeds the amount of tuition and fees charged would be considered taxable
income by the US government. Students are required to report this income to the government. Some
International students may have a portion of their scholarship withheld and sent to the IRS on their behalf.
Scholarship Renewal

For scholarship renewal, the recipient must have
o Satisfactorily participated in all assigned ensembles, as determined by the Division Directors and
the Division Chairs.
o Maintained a cumulative and semester grade point average of at least 2.0 if an undergraduate
student and 2.7 if a graduate student.
o Completed a full time number of credits each semester and completed at least 67% of all credits
taken.
Financial Aid and Academic Warning/Suspension/Probation
Students who fail to meet any or all of the above Satisfactory Progress requirements are placed on Financial Aid
and Academic Warning for the following semester, during which s/he will be required to follow an academic action
plan. If the student has not met the minimum requirements of the action plan at the end of the warning semester,
s/he will go on Financial Aid and Academic Suspension.
The student may appeal the suspension in writing no later than 10 days after notification. If the appeal is
successful, the student will go on Financial Aid and Academic Probation and will receive the scholarship during
the probationary period. If the student does not meet the probation requirements, s/he will lose the scholarship
again and be academically dismissed.
