Chris Smith & Jim Doxas Wednesday, June 30, 2010 @ 12:00 PM More Vanier College Stage Band Wednesday, June 30, 2010 @ 3:00 PM More Jocelyn Couture Plays Alumni Concert Band, February 20th, 2011 This event will bring together alumni who play a concert band instrument for two rehearsals in the afternoon, followed by a dinner with fellow alumni, and ending off with the Alumni concert in the evening in the Vanier Auditorium. To participate in this concert, please click here. Ticket information to attend the dinner and concert will be announced in the fall. Alumni Big Band, April 11th, 2011 The 13th Annual Big Band Benefit Concert will feature the Vanier Alumni Big Band conducted by Christopher Smith following the Vanier College Big Band (Jocelyn Couture, Director) and the professional J.L. Big Band (Christopher Smith, Director). There will be a reception before the concert at 6:00 pm in the Student Mall. FOLLOW US concert will be announced in the fall. 40th Anniversary Choir Concert, May 6th, 2011 Former choir directors Jean Sult and Erica Phare will join Philippe Bourque and the Vanier College Choir for a celebratory concert in collaboration with the Joseph-François Perrault Symphony Orchestra. The concert will feature Robert F. Jones’ La Terra Promessa, a symphonic anthology for soloists, chorus, and orchestra commissioned for this event. The concert will take place at at Église Saint Laurent and a reception will be held after the concert in the Student Mall. Part of the proceeds from the freewill offerings will be used to establish a Vanier Music Alumni Scholarship. The Vanier College Big Band June Recap Habitat for Humanity Several students in the Vanier College Architectural Technology program travelled to New Orleans to volunteer with the local Habitat for Humanity to help rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. This is the second such trip for Architectural Technology students having travelled to Mexico the year before. Read more. Click here for more photos. Athletics Athletics Awards Banquet The Athletics Department held its annual Awards Banquet a while back at the Days Inn Conference Center in Saint Laurent. Among the hardware handed out were trophies for male and female athlete of the year. Read more. Starting center Kazadi Nyanguila AlumBits BRIAN SMITH, DEC Social Science ’87, was file:///D|/wamp/www/vanier/publications/alumni/alumnotes/files/1.7/alumnotes-1.7.html[12/07/2010 12:06:15 PM] recently honoured with one of seven CDN—NDG Outstanding Citizen Awards, the borough's highest honour, in the category of “Civic-Mindedness and Social Involvement.” Here is an excerpt from his bio: "Brian Smith has been working at the Carrefour Jeunesse-emploi de Côte-des-Neiges since 1998, directing the Monnaie-Money, Dollars Make Sense project, which teaches young people about the importance of sound financial management. Smith is a model volunteer, working to promote the economic development and social integration of youth and visible minorities." During his stint at Vanier, Brian was captain of the Bol d’Or winning Cheetahs football team and voted MVP for defence. Read more about Vanier alumni in the news.
