Amendment
Humic Compost
Content: Plant trimmings. Our Humic Compost is a rich, dark, loamy product which provides a source of slow
release nutrients and beneficial microorganisms; It has gone through the state-required thermophilic processing
to eliminate potential weed seeds and pathogens.
Use: A quality and economical soil amendment for landscape installation and maintenance. Laboratory analysis
available upon request.
Desert Color Blend
Content: Humic Compost with specific nutrients added to correct desert soil deficiencies.
Color: Dark brown.
Use: Ideal soil amendment to pop high color bloom in landscape beds.
Desert Topguard
Content: Compost turf scalpings.
Color: Dark Brown.
Use: Premium topguard for turf. Ideal for exacting situations.

70/30 Topsoil Blend
Content: 70% soil/sand mix and 30% compost.
Use: This amendment is used to replace and improve poor quality native soils, and to raise the grade.

Desert Bedding Mulch
Content: Composted plant trimmings.
Color: Dark brown.
Use: Mulching beds, ornamental and fruit trees and plant crops. Provides a slow release source of nutrients and
beneficial microorganisms.
Palm Mulch
Desert Erosion Mulch
Content: Ground palm fronds.
Color: Light brown.
Use: Mulch for erosion control.
All groundcovers will impede weed growth, conserve water, reduce erosion run-off, and protect soil root zone
from drying wind and heat.
Desert Humic
Compost
Humic Compost:
• Feedstock is clean yard trimmings generated from landscape maintenance. No animal wastes, sludge wastes
or palm wastes are added.
• The shredded yard trimmings are composted for a minimum of one month, with peak temperatures reaching
155 degrees Fahrenheit throughout this thermophilic stage.
• Composting is done by the windrow method with regular turning to expose all parts of the pile to high temperatures
in order to achieve weed seed and pathogen kill. Product is processed according to California Integrated Waste
Management Boards’ specifications for composted green waste. Curing phase is up to two months.
• Moisture content at time of marketing is approximately 25%. One cubic yard of compost weighs on average
950 to 1115 pounds.
• Color is very dark, rich brown.
• Finished compost is screened through a 3/8 inch mesh.
• Certified Organic by OMRI
Humic Compost has the following characteristics:
• High water retention – increases water holding capacity in mineral soils.
• Improves soil fertility – provides a slow release source of minerals.
• Increases soil tilth – improves soil structure, aeration and drainage.
• Enhances microbial activity – provides an established population of beneficial microbes, which are essential for
mineralization and plant nutrient uptake, as well as disease suppression.
Application:
Humic Compost is a must for soil amendment and conditioning. It is generally used at the rate of 30% Humic
Compost and 70% Native Soil either worked into the backfill or roto-tilled into the top 6” of soil for turf or planting
beds. Humic Compost is a source of slow release nutrients and will increase the organic matter content in the
soil profile.
Desert Color Blend
Desert Color Blend:
• Feedstock is clean yard trimmings generated from landscape maintenance. No animal wastes, sludge wastes
or palm wastes are added.
• The shredded yard trimmings are composted for a minimum period of one month, with peak temperatures
reaching 155 degrees Fahrenheit throughout this thermophilic stage.
• Composting is done by the windrow method with regular turning to expose all parts of the pile to high temperatures
in order to achieve weed seed and pathogen kill. Product is processed according to California Integrated Waste
Management Boards’ specifications for composted green waste. Curing phase is up to two months.
• Moisture content at time of marketing is approximately 25%. One cubic yard of compost weighs on average
1000 to 1150 pounds.
• Color is very dark, rich brown.
• Finished compost is screened through a 3/8 inch mesh.
• Amendments are added and mixed to compensate for nutrients lacking in desert soils. These include gypsum,
soil sulfur, urea, K-Mag, Microbalance, iron sulfate, Tilth, and lota.
Desert Color Blend has the following characteristics:
• Nutrient balance produces high bloom and color in desert soils.
• High water retention – increases water holding capacity in mineral soils.
• Improves soil fertility – provides a slow release source of minerals.

Application:
Desert Color Blend is a must for soil amendment and conditioning. It is generally used at the rate of one yard per
one thousand square feet. If the soil is low in organic material or is a new planting, add an additional 2 yards of
Humic Compost per one thousand square feet. It is a source of slow release nutrients and will increase the organic
matter content in the soil profile.
Desert Topguard
Desert Topguard:
• Feedstock is clean grass scalping generated from landscape maintenance. No animal wastes, sludge wastes,
or palm wastes are added.
• The feedstock is composted for a minimum period of one month, with peak temperatures reaching 155 degrees
Fahrenheit throughout this thermophilic stage.
• Composting is done by the windrow method with regular turning to expose all parts of the pile to high temperatures
in order to achieve weed seed and pathogen kill. Product is processed according to California Integrated Waste
Management Boards’ specifications for composted green waste. Curing phase is up to two months.
• Color is dark brown
• Moisture content at time of marketing is approximately 25%. One cubic yard of compost weighs on average
850 to 925 pounds.
• Finished compost is 1/8 inch size
Desert Topguard has the following characteristics:
• Provides noticeable improvement in color and vitality of turf.
• High water retention – increases water holding capacity in mineral soils.
• Improves soil fertility – Provides a slow release source of minerals.

Desert Topguard is ideal for seed cover, divot mixes and turf renovation. It is generally at ¼ inch to ½ inch thick. It

Desert Bedding Mulch:
• Feedstock is clean green yard trimmings generated from residential source-separated curbside pick up and
landscape maintenance. No animal wastes, sludge wastes or palm waste are added.
• The shredded yard trimmings are composted for a minimum period of one month, with peak temperatures
reaching 155 degrees Fahrenheit throughout this thermophilic stage.
• Composting is done by the windrow method with regular turning to expose all parts of the pile to high temperatures
in order to achieve weed seed and pathogen kill. Product is processed according to California Integrated Waste
Management Boards’ specifications for composted green waste.
• One cubic yard of Desert Bedding Mulch weighs approximately 700 to 766 pounds.
• Color is dark, rich brown.
• Mulch has a particle size of one and ½ inch minus.

Application:
Desert Bedding Mulch is wonderful for top dressing a new or established planted area, providing weed growth
suppression and water conservation in any exposed area. Desert Bedding Mulch is a source of slow release
nutrients and will increase the organic matter content in the soil profile. Apply at 2-3 inches thick.
Forest Mulch
Forest Mulch:
• Feedstock is assorted tree trimmings, wood and bark. No animal waste, sludge waste, lumber or C&D wood
by-products are added.
• After shredding, the mulch is then screened to remove particle sizes of ½ inch and less. Particle length ranges
from one to three inches. 95% by volume, conforms to this particle size range.
• Forest Mulch is a medium brown, natural groundcover resembling a forest floor, that will knit down and reduce
erosion and water loss.
• One cubic yard of Forest Mulch weighs approximately 575 to 625 pounds.
Application:
Burrtec’s Forest Mulch is suitable for top dressing large common areas, parks, trails, native habitat landscaping,
residential slope areas. An application rate of six to nine cubic yards per 1000 square foot is recommended for a
two to three inch thick mulch layer.

70/30 Topsoil Blend
70/30 Topsoil Blend:
• Composed of 70% soil/sand mix and 30% Humic Compost, produced from green waste composting. No
animal waste, sludge waste or other amendments are added.
• Moisture content at time of marketing is approximately 10 percent.
• One cubic yard of Topsoil Blend weighs on average 1750 pounds.
• Particle size is 3/8 inch minus.

Application:
This amendment is used to replace poor quality native soil for landscaping purposes or to increase the grade
level. Three cubic yards will cover 1,000 sq. ft. with a 1 inch deep layer. Topsoil Blend may also be mixed into
planter beds and used as part of backfill mixes in tree and shrub planting.
