In case your flight schedule should not allow you to take this bus please consider following
information:
1. Arriving at the airport Madrid Barajas and
getting to Madrid center:
The Madrid-Barajas airport is located 13 kilometers northwest of the capital on the A-2
motorway linking Madrid and Barcelona. Barajas currently has four terminals that provide
service to all the different departure and arrival destinations, both national and international.
There are several options regarding the transport between the airport and the city of Madrid.
We recommend, for its speed and easy access, the metro (underground), train (cercanías) and
taxi services.
a) Underground: There is a metro line from Madrid city to the airport terminal T4: metro
line 8 Nuevos Ministerios - Aeropuerto T4. The line has two metro station at the airport.
From 6.05 a.m. (morning) to 1.30 a.m. (night).
The route to the airport since the beginning of the line 8 takes 13/15 minutes to the T1-T2-T3

metro station (first stop at the airport), and takes 5 minutes more until the second metro
station at the airport (the last stop), at the terminal T4.
Between metro stations "Aeropuerto T1 T2 T3" and "Aeropuerto T4" there is a metro station
called "Barajas". This metro station is in the town, not at the airport.
Madrid underground is convenient, fast (about 40 minutes to downtown) and cheap. It is
inadvisable to use this type of transportation when travelling with a lot of luggage. Note that it
is common to find groups of pickpockets operating in the Madrid metro system. Take special
care if you travel in groups (the preference of the pickpockets is often large groups of nonSpanish speaking people who are distracted from each other) and always try to avoid keeping
the pockets at the back of your travel gear or on backpacks. We inform you that a surcharge
has to be paid in order to enter and exit the airport stations (T1, T2, T3 and T4). The total
amount is about 6€.
b) Train (Cercanías Renfe):
If you arrive to terminal 4 of Madrid-Barajas Airport, you
can take a train to downtown. It is significantly faster than the underground and cheaper than
a taxi. The train station is located in the T4 but there is a shuttle bus that connects all the
terminals. The cost of a single ticket is 2,60€ . The journey takes 11minutes between the
airport and Chamartin (train station), and 20-30 minutes between the airport and downtown.
The working hours of the train are from 5.59 AM to 00.15 PM, with a train every 30 minutes.
c) Taxi: Taxi stands are located at the exits of the arrival lounges in the four terminals. The
fixed price between Barajas airport and Madrid city center (internal area of Calle 30 – M30) is
30 EUROS. The carriage of luggage is included. It is advisable not to rely on strangers who may
offer their services inside the airport. Taxi fares are always indicated by its meter. The journey
between the airport and the city centre may take between 20 and 40 minutes depending on
traffic and time of day. Taxi is the most convenient transportation option between the airport
and downtown, especially if you have luggage, and you do not know how to reach your
destination.
Please note that the total journey time by public transportation from Madrid airport to Avila
can be more than three hours .
2. Getting from Madrid to Avila:
For travelling from Madrid to Avila you can choose between train and bus.
a) by train: To travel by train from Madrid to Avila you must start from CHAMARTIN
RAILWAY STATION, on Calle Agustín de Foxa, s/n. (not Atocha railway station!)
To get to the train station from Madrid-Barajas airport, by underground, you will need to do as
follows:

• Underground exit “Aeropuerto T1 T2 T3 / T4”, Line 8 (pink), up to the station
"Nuevos Ministerios"
• At "Nuevos Ministerios" you should transfer to Line 10 (Blue) heading to "Hospital
Infanta Sofia". Your stop will be marked as "Chamartin".
The journey takes approximately 32 minutes from the underground station of the Terminals T1
T2 T3 in Barajas. In case the journey starts at the underground station of the Terminal T4, the
estimated duration would be 37 minutes.
When you arrive at your stop, "Chamartin" station, you must follow the indicators RENFE:
They will guide you through the vast underground station to an exit to the street. Once
outside, you should go up the 2 sets escalators that you will find in front of you and that will
take you directly to the door of Chamartin train station.
TICKETS PURCHASE:
Both, time queries and tickets purchase can be made in advance through the Renfe website,
www.renfe.com
It is also possible to purchase your ticket by phone. This option is available until 15 minutes
before departure of your train and you must make your reservation calling the telephone
number 902 320 320.
If you wish to purchase a ticket on arrival at the Chamartin station you should go to the ticket
purchases desk and we recommend that you inquire about all the options for your journey. For
example, if you buy a return ticket it is cheaper than buying a single ticket. Please have in mind

that you must take the train you chose, you cannot take any other train the same day, unless
you pay again.
The average price for a one-way trip, without discounts, will be about 12.25€ and the journey
is just over an hour and a half.
Chamartin train station has an information point and customer service desk where they will
answer your questions and, if needed, help with any complications that may arise.

b) by bus: All those interested in travelling to Avila by bus should go to ESTACIÓN SUR
DE AUTOBUSES DE MADRID, located on Avenida Méndez Álvaro, 83.
To get to the bus station (ESTACIÓN SUR DE AUTOBUSES DE MADRID) from Madrid-Barajas
airport, by underground, you will need to do as follows:

Underground exit “Aeropuerto T1 T2 T3 / T4”, Line 8 (pink), up to the station
"Nuevos Ministerios"

At "Nuevos Ministerios" you should transfer to Line 6 Circular (Gray). Your stop will
be marked as "Méndez Álvaro ".

The journey takes approximately 45 minutes from the underground station of the Terminals T1
T2 T3 in Barajas Madrid Airport. From Terminal T4 station, the estimated duration would be 50
minutes.
Once you arrive at the bus station you should look for the bus company "Jiménez Dorado",
which is the only company that makes the trip Madrid – Avila.

There are many journeys that the bus company “Jiménez Dorado” makes to Ávila every day, it
is highly probable that one of them will fit with your schedule. Please, find below the link to

Bus tickets can be purchased online at the www.jimenezdorado.com/en/ website or on arrival
at the station in one of the ticket windows of the company "Jiménez Dorado".
The price of a single ticket is 7.68€ or 7.87€ and the trip takes about one hour and 20 minutes.
