Replacement of Pinion
When using the analog sensor ML312345 (STT99WD)
with hex pinion it may be necessary to replace the standard pinion. Please follow these instructions carefully.
g) Remove base plate (#1).
a) IMPORTANT: The jaws must be in fully open position!
h) Pull the pinion along with the upper bearing out of the
center plate (#4).
b) Remove the screws (#5) out of the base plate.
Screws #5
c) Remove the screws (#22) out of the end plates.
i)
Lubricate the new pinion and put it along with the
bearing back into the center plate.
d) Remove the screws (#20) and (#21) until the head
comes completely out of the end plate.

Screws #21
Screws #20
e) Place the gripper on the jaw mounting surface.
f) Pull the end plates (#15) and (#16) approximately
10 mm to the side.
j)
Reinstall the base plate (#1).
k) Put back the screws (#5) into the base plate (#1)
hand tied with medium strength thread locker.

l)
Replacement of Pinion (continued)
Check that the two O-rings (#13) are in the correct
position located in the end plates.
n) Reinstall the screws (#20) and (#21) hand tied with
medium strength screw locker.
o) Reinstall the screws (#22) hand tied with medium
strength screw locker.
p) Check that all parts are in the correct position.
q) Torque the screws (#5) of the base plate and screws
(#20), (#21) and (#22) of the end plates with 34 Nm.
r)
Run the gripper with 3 and 6 bar to ensure that the
gripper operates correctly.
m) Move back the two endplates (#15) and (#16) to the
base plate (#1)
Meanwhile, use a little screw driver to move the rack
protection tube (#10) into the correct position to the
end plates (#15) and (#16) (counterbore in end
plates).
Make sure that the keyed base plate (#1) and endplates (#15) and (#16) are aligned correctly.

Installation of Sensor
a) IMPORTANT: The jaws must be in fully open position!
e) Hand turn the cap of the sensor clockwise until the
hard stop.
b) Place the gripper on the jaw mounting surface.
c) Remove the old sensor or the pinion cover.
f)
Install the sensor with the hex pinion. The location of
the sensor mounting surface (small cut out) must be
aligned with the mounting holes in the base plate (1).
It may necessary to turn the sensor after placing the
hex in the pinion in order to get the two mounting patterns aligned. Turn the sensor counterclockwise only.
IMPORTANT:
- Do not turn the sensor more than a 1/4 turn!
- Turn the sensor counterclockwise only!
d) Install the spring in the pinion.
g) Install the two mounting screws of the sensor with
thread locker medium strength and torque them
with 0,6 Nm.

Installation of Sensor (continued)
h) Connect the sensor to 24VDC and a voltage measuring device.
In the open position the output voltage must be between 0,0 V and 0,5V.
If the output voltage is higher, do not move the
jaws. This will destroy the sensor!
(Then you have to remove the sensor and install a
new one correctly.)
