Many generations of families here
in Geneva can attest to having fond
memories of their time at the
Geneva Recreation Complex (GRC).
Whether it was skating with friends
during open sessions , working as a
concession attendant or rink guard
or pushing through a grueling
hockey practice during the years of
the “open air rink”.
As the City hopes to see more
generations continue to create
traditions and memories around ice
skating, an investment in its future
is needed. Two aging parts of the
complex are set for a much needed
upgrade as the facility itself is
reaching 40 years of service:
Zamboni & Dasher Board System.
The dasher board replacement was
completed in mid-September. With
the new system comes improved
durability, seamless glass for better
spectator viewing and heightened
glass to reduce play stoppage from
pucks hitting the upper netting.
As we “retire” our Zamboni with
over 250,000 miles, the new
Millennium Olympia is set to arrive
around the Thanksgiving holiday.
Our faithful Zamboni “has been a
After cleaning the ice for 15 years, the GRD’s Zamboni will be replaced
by a 2016 Olympia Ice Resurfacer for the upcoming hockey season.
workhorse for many years and with delicate care and maintenance has long exceeded its lifespan” noted Rink Manager,
Dave Sharman, Jr.
The new Millennium will provide many advancements in ice
making technology. Dave and Director, Janelle Drach know this
is what the GRC needs to maintain quality ice for youth hockey
tenants all the way up to HWS’s Varsity DIII teams. Public
skating is set to start on Friday, October 14th, check inside our
brochure for details on season passes and open skating hours.
NEIDER PARK CONSTRUCTION NEARS COMPLETITION
This summer the City DPW
crews and contractors have
been busy in many of
Geneva’s Parks. Lakefront
improvements are nearing
completion, the new “Bark”
Park is now open to the
public, Richards Park is
getting a new entryway and
Neider Park, one of the older
“pocket parks” here in the
City has undergone
major work. After work to
improve the drainage in
Neider Park (LeHigh
Garden Neighborhood) was
completed to eliminate swamp like
conditions, crews have been
working throughout the summer
to re-locate and expand the
basketball court and create a full
walking path surrounding the
perimeter of the park.
Supplemental work is to be
added as the fall
season approaches.
Theses plans include a
gazebo near the east end
of the park, benches along
the pathway and reseeding of the construction
area. The playground will
also receive mulch and
research is being
completed to determine if
a possible future location
of a dirt bike course is
possible.
