Dear former student, faculty member, employee, or friend of Eli Whitney ("EW") School,
You are cordially invited to attend a Reunion at Eli Whitney Elementary School on Friday May 24
and Saturday May 25, 2013. A little background …..
During the summer of 2002, several of us realized 2003 would mark the end of EW's 50th school
year. A Reunion Committee was formed to plan a reunion for the spring of that year. Shortly into
2003, the Board of Education (BOE) announced EW would cease to operate as a school, adding some
urgency for the reunion, and some increasing the symbolic significance. The reunion was held on
May 24, 2003. About 120 people attended (maybe you were among them), and good times were
reportedly had by all. (It was later announced the EW building would become the Whitney
Administrative Complex, still owned and operated by the BOE.)
Now, as 10 additional years have passed and the BOD will give us a short tour of the building, a new
Committee (we could use some new members) was formed and the new reunion has been planned.

The reunion will consist of:

Dinner on Friday May 24 at Tubby's Tank House (2909 River Drive, Thunderbolt) 6:00
p. m. Cost: $5.00 reservation fee, plus you pay the restaurant for what you order off their
menu. (We have to have a minimum of 30 paying attendees.)
 A buffet lunch at the Pirates' House (20 E. Broad St., Savannah) on Saturday May 25.
Thirty minute social starting at 11:30 a. m. Lunch starting at 12:00 noon, with an
informal Program beginning a little later. Cost: $ 25.00. (We have to have a minimum of
50 paying attendees.)
 Tour of the school building at 2:30 p. m., for one hour.
We need reservations at least a week before the reunion events. If you're pretty sure you will be
attending, please make and pay for your reservations very soon. (If you later recognize you can't
attend, if you let us know in a timely manner, we'll try refund your $.)
We would also appreciate your sharing this information with others who may be interested, but who
don't already know about the event. Or, alternatively, call or e-mail me and give me their names and
any other pertinent information, such phone no., mailing address, e-mail address, etc.
Note that we're keeping prices very low, to hopefully accommodate everyone interested in attending.
However, the reunion will cost the treasury more than the restaurant fees, and we ask that everyone
who can, make an additional contribution to cover other expenses, such as meals for former teachers
& other special guests, printing, paper, postage, etc. etc. ($10, $25, $50, or any amount you can spare
will be appreciated!)
