This year our Stewardship theme is “Every Blessing in Abundance.” What does the word “abundant” mean to
you in this context?
Every blessing is a gift in itself and makes possible further giving. When a person gives money, time, and talents, he
or she also receives a blessing. That gift opens the way to more giving.
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
Mark 4:30-32: “He also said, ‘With what can we compare the Kingdom of God, or what parable will we use it for? It
is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet…it grows
and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in
its shade.”
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
Whenever our church holds a food drive, whether Stop Hunger Now or a collection for the local food pantry, my
Sunday School Class (TNT) works with other church members in the gym to collect or to sort the contributions. Not
only am I amazed by the outpouring of resources by our congregation, but I am also fed spiritually by the
cheerfulness, energy, and cooperation among our class and other church members. It feels wonderful to work
together in harmony for a good cause!

you in this context?
God blesses me with an abundance of grace and forgiveness. Even in my most challenging moments He carries me
through.
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance at (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
I recently traveled to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico with Troop 395 from White Memorial. During the trek
on Philmont, I was humbled by the abundance of strength that God provided for me physically, but also mentally. I
realized this was a metaphor for my entire life, not just for being in the wilderness. I have to trust in the Lord each
day, for he will provide me strength! Proverbs 3:5-6.

you in this context?
Overflowing, more than enough, more than deserved. Enough to share. A blessing, a gift. Enveloping. Oh, so good!
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
Isaiah 41:13— I will hold you always in the palm of my hand.
Romans 8:38-39— Nothing can separate us from the love of God.
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
Not one event. White Memorial is just always there; My secure, happy place. A place where I know I can seek
whatever I need. I can always come home. Every group I’ve joined has been inviting and genuinely caring. My circle
group, divorce recovery, Sunday School, committees, Step Up, Habitat, diaconate, session, contemplative prayer,
forums, Avila, retreats and much, much more! There is something for everyone if you just sign up!

This year our Stewardship theme is “Every Blessing in Abundance.” What does the word “abundant” mean to
you in this context?
”Abundant” in this context is reflecting on God’s goodness and His desire to take care of us. God is abundant in His
Grace and Love for us no matter our faults and shortcomings.
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want“.
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
As part of our church’s Prayer Ministry team; I have been blessed by God’s abundance. The time in prayer on
Tuesday evenings has strengthened my faith in God’s presence in all our lives. The Saint John’s Bible Illuminations
Exhibit expressed God’s abundance through the scripture in a visual, living way I had not felt before. To be able to
spend time with these illuminations brought new depth and joy to God’s abundant Word. We are so blessed at
WMPC to have programs which enrich our understanding and love of God.

How long have you worshiped at WMPC: 1999 +/-.
Can you think of a time you have experienced a sense of God’s abundance at WMPC with a group (at WMPC) or
in your own life?
Abundant is one of those words that is just plain hard to wrap my head around liturgically. One of those words that
has to find a place in the yings and yangs of life. Those places when some days are hard, some days routine, and
some days just perfect.
I start my days quietly. Coffee, feed the pets, text my walking partner and tell her to get up, and then sit outside on
my front stoop. I will settle down with the lectionary reading for the day, always a Psalter, make notes or
doodles about what faces me. My vista is the front garden, old brick walk, a magnolia tree, fence and the huge
oaks, crepe myrtles, and poplars beyond.
Sometimes the winter seems forever barren. The tradeoff is that the winter lets me watch the sun come up – like
this huge spotlight hitting the top of those 80 foot canopies. Woah. Breathtaking simplicity. This time of year I am
surrounded by the animated chatter of birds, crickets and squirrels waiting for me to leave so they can attack my
garden! I spend the time being Stevie Wonder and as his song says, “Have a talk w/ God.” Notes and doodles,
thoughts on the Psalter or biblical stories…and always, no matter my challenge, a scribbled prayer of gratitude. For
me abundant is there. In this context of life’s constantly morphing heartbreaks and joys, “abundant” is the grace
version of “full, plentiful – or more than enough.” These abundant blessings are more than my ability to quantify.
More than my ability to “get it.” Growing up, my family moved often, but we always settled with a faith
community in each town. John and I have continued that pattern of being part of a faith community. For the last
20 years, WMPC has been a cathedral church for me full of opportunities for me to find abundant blessings. The
campus remains vibrant. Alive. The brick pavements have joggers, travelers, folks from here, folks from far away,
some folks just passing through. I have been involved in many ministries, many committees, and sometimes – just
chosen a quiet year of very little church activity.
The two resounding places of abundant blessings are in Worship, and with my involvement with Stephen Ministry.
Worship is the time I feel the abundant (grace filled unquantifiable) memories when God has been – and continues
to be - a part of my family. It is in worship I hear my parent’s voices and feel their smiles. It is in worship I
remember my little ones scampering under the pews or snuggling on my shoulder. It is in worship I watch the
children, sing the hymns, hear the stories, share the communion, pass the peace, and think of my place in family.
Stephen Ministry has provided the abundant blessing of being trained to reach out, share, listen, and support a
fellow traveler. It has been an opportunity for my support as I muddle through challenges.
As far as a favorite verse? Geeze that is hard to single one out – but maybe I would have to go back to one of my
very first memory verses: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only son…”(John 3:16a). Abundant blessing
– I don’t get it – who could possibly have done that?
This abundant blessing is as magical and abundant as the sun coming up in the wintertime lighting up those
magnificent trees as they wait for new leaves.

This year our Stewardship theme is “Every Blessing in Abundance.” What does the word “abundant” mean to
you in this context? In this context, I think about all the ways in which I, and we as a congregation, have been
blessed. It also makes me think that if we have been blessed in abundance, we carry a responsibility to share those
blessings with others.
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
Jeremiah 29:11: “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord. ‘Plans to prosper you and not to harm
you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
While this may not seem like a time for quiet reflection, I often feel a sense of God’s abundance while attending
White Memorial session meetings. It is moving to hear the different ways God is working through the church and
the people of this community to make our world better. These meetings can provide snapshots of the various ways
people are engaged with our church community and the world around us. People share updates on everything
from the Weekday School, Sunday morning worship services, health ministries, youth events, international
missions, local outreach programs, and prayer requests, down to the details that help the church function well
week in and week out such as building maintenance and having the appropriate A/V equipment to stream services.
These meetings are a time when we discuss the issues facing our congregation, our Presbytery, and our
denomination. I’m struck again and again hearing about the ways members of this church reflect God’s abundance,
both in the gifts people have been given and the ways in which people use their gifts to reach out to others in love.

This year our Stewardship theme is “Every Blessing in Abundance.” What does the word “abundant” mean to
you in this context?
Abundance is a mind-set, the notion that God will provide in ways that are surprising, heartening and oftentimes
challenging. When I am feeling that there’s not enough (money, time, food, etc.) it’s a signal that I need to turn to
Jesus.
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
Matthew 6:25-34. Here Jesus speaks of worry which drives from a scarcity mind-set. We are called to live in
abundance through Jesus.
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
When our daughter Harper was born, our community of young adults gathered together to provide meals and
encouragement to us as we navigated becoming parents. We wanted for nothing for weeks after her birth because
of their generosity. That same abundance became clearer when Harper was baptized. We were moved deeply
when the congregation stood. So many of our brothers and sisters were in the pews and we knew their promises
were real. Jesus will be with us always through their friendship and love.

We’ve been at White Memorial for four years.
This year our Stewardship theme is “Every Blessing in Abundance.” What does the word “abundant” mean to
you in this context?
From the Middle English, abundance means “overflowing.”
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
Matthew 7:7: “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
This assignment arrives as we’ve just returned from Finland. The backpacks are still in the hallway. My family, my
brother’s family and my parents met there for one week to celebrate my parent’s Golden Anniversary. On our first
morning, we took the C train from Katajanokka to Metodisti Kirkko (Methodist Church). Church was just letting out
and the minister’s wife Eino invited us in to join the small congregation for coffee and pulla. While offering me
cream, she pointed to the portrait on the wall of my grandfather. In 1965, while a minister here, Kusti Laitinen had
presided over the marriage of his daughter, my Finnish mother, to my American father.
Over the last few years, my parents have lost some dear friends and my husband and I have, too. Loss, age and
attending White Memorial have softened my heart and honed my eye. I now know what abundance looks like. And
it was absolutely there in that sanctuary of Metodisti Kirkko this summer, and I see it every Sunday in the
sanctuary of White Memorial, too. “Blessings,” Christopher calls out, waving his two hands jubilantly in the air.
“Abundant blessings!” And he’s right.

you in this context?
To me, the word “abundant,” in the context of our Stewardship theme, means two things, that God provides and
that he provides in excess.
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
My favorite verse is Philippians 4:4-9 which speaks to God’s abundant peace and his ability to abundantly calm our
anxious thoughts.

I believe God’s abundance abounds at White Memorial and, specifically, it manifests itself in our service to others.
Having both been served and having served others at White Memorial, I know it to be prevalent during our
spaghetti dinners, in the service projects from the Young Adult group, as well as those of us that volunteer with
our youth, service to others is abundant at White Memorial!

you in this context?
An overflowing amount
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
1 Peter 4:8-11: “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show
hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good
stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who
serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To
him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
We are grateful for the community of faith that is White Memorial Presbyterian Church. However, we didn't fully
appreciate the abundance of support and the abundance of opportunities to serve others White Memorial offers
until a job transfer moved us to another city. There we struggled to find a church community like White Memorial
that embraces everyone and endeavors to improve the lives of others. We are blessed to be back as part of this
community of faith.

This year our Stewardship theme is “Every Blessing in abundance.” What does the word “abundant” mean to
you in this context?
Since abundant means a lot, I think about how I have so many things I can thank God for, like my family and when I
have great days, and how many things I can ask him for, like to be with people who need Him or help heal me if I
hurt myself.
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
My favorite Bible verse is Luke 6:31. “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” God tells us to be kind and
nice to other people because we want other people to be kind to us. When people treat each other with love and
respect, they are not hurting each other. When we are kind to people, it helps them like us and want to be our
friend. Friends are important because we need people to play with and to help each other.
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
Our church has plenty of chances for kids to experience God's love like Church School, Small Groups, Vacation
Church School, and Family Camp. I really enjoy WMPC Family Camp each year. There are so many things to do, and
fun activities there. Last year, we shared a cabin with a family that had 3 children close to my age and we all got to
know each other better and had lots of fun together. Family Camp is a great time because you get to meet new
friends, play games, and have a lot of fun.

This year our Stewardship theme is “Every Blessing in abundance.” What does the word “abundant” mean to
you in this context?
I think in this case, Abundance=Luck. I am so fortunate to have a supportive family with the means to raise me
with a quality education, and have fantastic family and friends. I am crazy lucky, and when I stop remembering
that, I’m pretty sure I will become a horrible person. Every time I see that theme, I am reminded about how lucky
I am to be, well, to be.

Um, so, I just had to Google “bible abundance,” full disclosure. I was going to go with the one about the wine
(Proverbs 3:10 - Then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine), but not sure
what lesson I am learning there, except that I suddenly have a ton of food and wine.
I really like Luke 6:45- The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person
out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
Making a connection between what you say and who you are and what you do - that’s important to me.

Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
It was totally unexpected. I was in Mexico as a rising senior in high school going on a Mission trip to the Yucatan
Peninsula with Westminster Presbyterian Church in Durham.
Looking back on it, I’m sure my parents thought it was an ideal place to send me in the summer, so I could
appreciate all that I have by seeing all that most people in the world don’t have.
They probably thought I would see their living conditions, and their work ethic, and their raw appreciation for
what they had, even though it was so much less than that we had.
All of that happened. And frankly, that part was expected, and very meaningful. But the unexpected part was the
night I got Montezuma’s Revenge. The rest of the church group went to the village for dinner, I stayed home in a
bathroom doing Montezuma’s Revenge things. About an hour in, there was a knock on the door and a man
named Miguel came in. He was the farmer who was basically giving us his home to live, eat and sleep out of for
the week. I try to imagine his perspective - he walks in the door and there is this scrawny kid, in the middle of a
third world country, wearing a polo shirt and docksiders puking all over his bathroom. He had every right to
detest me. He brought me a cold towel and put it on the back of my neck, a glass of water and a pillow to put my
knees on. And he stayed there. Sat there and watched over me. When I finally started feeling better and could
make eye contact with him without getting nauseous, I thanked him and asked him what time it was. It was 9:30.
He had been sitting there for 3 hours, didn’t say anything, brought me 4 glasses of water and three cold towels. I
told him I was lucky to have him there for me. He said (and I will never forget this), “I am the lucky one. Thank you
for coming to stay in my home.”
That has stuck with me for over 20 years. I don’t think he was being polite. I think he truly saw himself as
fortunate, as blessed. I think he was giving me all he had (his time, his towels, his water) because he had an
abundance of it, and doing that made him feel good. I think about him every time I see an example of people in
our society complaining about their wifi going down for a second or their food taking too long at a restaurant.

you in this context?
It means if the glass is half full, put it in a smaller glass and watch your cup overflow!!
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
Psalm 91:4: “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wing you will find refuge. His faithfulness will be
your shield and rampart.”
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
It is easy to feel God’s blessings in times of joy, success and bounty. We have been given so much, and of course it
is all at the hand of our Father. In a time of loss, however, to still feel you have been given a gift – instead of feeling
something has been taken away – is an incredible blessing. My father passed away in 2013. He was a man of strong
Faith and to know him was to know his relationship with the Lord. When a disease slowly drained him of his
mobility and physical ability starting in his 50s, his spirituality strengthened, and our family witnessed our patriarch
blossom into an unwavering ambassador of Faith. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own
understanding. In all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight,” he would tell us. He always
saw the path as one the Lord had laid specially for him, and though his body weakened, his Faith grew stronger. He
embodied the Lord’s Spirit and all who knew him witnessed its manifestation within him despite growing physical
challenges. I had just returned home from a family vacation when I got the call from my mother. I thought she was
calling to tell me they were back home, as Dad promised they would when they landed the night before. Instead,
she told me he was gone. I passed quickly through the first stages of grief…denial…anger…bargaining…and in those
hours following his passing found myself rejoicing in the blessings the Lord had bestowed on our family in his
departure. On our family trip the days leading up to his death we had all been together as a family, including his
stepmother (his mother passed when he was very young), his sister and her family, my mom and sister, as well as
our (now) husbands. Even my brother, who as a surprise to us all had flown in from across the country. For a
family spread across multiple cities in Florida, California, Michigan and North Carolina, being united and with my
Dad those last precious moments that we didn’t even know were such was a blessing only The Lord knew He was
orchestrating. As I remembered my dad, his character and faith in those first hours he was gone, I saw God’s hand
in action and knew that despite my pain, through that loss, our family had been blessed. In place of the void I
thought I’d feel without my dad, going forward I felt fullness, completeness, and security. How was it that in
losing something so irreplaceable I felt I had been given something greater than what I lost? I realized that in
celebrating my father’s life I was celebrating his faith, and in celebrating his faith my own was strengthened,
rejuvenated, even reborn. My sorrow was drowned by the sensation of the Lord’s presence, and I felt solace and
comfort in place of expected grief.
The Lord’s blessings aren’t material, financial, personal victories, or luck. Though we can be thankful for those
things and know His hand has provided, no blessing is greater than that of true faith. For it is through that faith you
have been saved by His grace, and that is the gift of God. Fred Moore was 74.

This year our Stewardship theme is “Every Blessing in abundance.” What does the word “abundant” mean to
you in this context?
Abundance...plentifulness, overflowing, fullness. We have many blessings in our lives: a child, a pet, a gift from a
friend, a received smile, the food we eat, our homes, the simple ability to walk, talk, hear and see. To know the
Lord our God provides abundantly for each of these fills our hearts with comfort, love and gratitude so that we
may give back to others.
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
Matthew 5:3-10: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and
thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are
the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Blessed
are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
Our son was born in May 2010. He has to face challenges and obstacles every day like all of us, but the challenges
and obstacles he faces are ones the majority of us perform with simple ease. Walking, talking, getting dressed for
the day and expressing your wants, needs and desires; these simple day to day activities are such a blessing yet
to our own son, they are stunted due to reasons unexplained to us. But, even amongst these daily tasks that are
difficult for our son to perform, we feel God’s abundance.
Through therapy, patience, time, prayer and countless support from friends and family, we have witnessed our
son take independent steps (even if just a few), heard the word “Mama” being spoken for the first time (after
waiting three and a half years), communicate his feelings, wants and desires with help from a voice output device
and, most importantly, grow, learn and thrive. There have been a lot of little moments celebrated throughout his
five short years and we know there will be more to come. We have learned to appreciate all the little blessings in
life and continuously feel God’s abundant presence every day.

How long have you worshiped at White Memorial? I’ve been a member for 34 years.
This year our Stewardship theme is “Every Blessing in Abundance.” What does the word “abundant” mean to
you in this context?
Reading the scripture passage from where this phrase originates, I take it to mean “more than enough—enough to
share.” So whatever we have, we have enough to share.
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
A call and an affirmation of sharing comes from Hebrews 13:16; “And do not forget to do good and to share with
others, for such sacrifices God is pleased.”
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
While serving on the Community Service Committee, I have had the opportunity to observe several agencies that
are the recipients of our grant allocations. Around 40 agencies request funding for their work meeting basic human
needs, teaching life-coping skills and promoting self-sufficiency. There is no doubt that our church members’

Our family joined White Memorial in 2012. Prior to that, our children were enrolled in the Mothers Morning Out
and Weekday School, and I participated in the Lilies Bible Study.
This year our Stewardship theme is “Every Blessing in Abundance.” What does the word “abundant” mean to
you in this context?
God blesses us in so many ways, and in every facet of our lives. There are so many blessings, I can’t keep track of
them, even when I stop to count.
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
Isaiah 41:10: “So do not fear for I am with you, I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my right
hand.”
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
When my children were born, I sensed God’s abundance more fully than I ever had before. I was aware of God’s
love and protection in ways I had never felt.

you in this context?
Abundant to me means plentiful, the theme “ Every Blessing in Abundance” to me means each blessing is a gift to
be treasured. In the world we live in today we ( I am guilty of this) overlook some of the simple blessings we take
for granted.
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
My favorite verse in the Bible is John 3:16. I think that verse describes the depth of God’s giving to us, to sacrifice
his only son so our sins can be forgiven. What a blessing and gift to all of us.
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
I see God’s abundance every single day in my life, admittedly I don’t always appreciate the blessings the way I
should and often get caught up in my own events of the day.
I see the work our church does for the community and cherish the impact we are making and I feel God is steering
us to help others.

Matthew 15:36—When the people were so involved in listening to Jesus, he turned the loaves and fishes into an
abundance of food.

from our church or in your own life)?
Dealing with a group of 12 year old boys, who all of a sudden care about clothes and brand labels. And then at
some point in a brief Church School lesson, the Bible and what Jesus did does apply to their life. And the material
things are then irrelevant. There is revealed the abundance of a youthful mind, and all the possibilities in their
futures.

you in this context?
We all have more gifts from God than we realize. Many things we take for granted, but actually are from the Grace
of God.
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
I don’t believe I can pick a favorite. The theme repeats itself so many times.
Romans 15:13 : “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope,
through the power of the Holy Ghost.”

He rescued family members and moved many of us through difficult times to a new beginning and happy times.

you in this context?
In excess; more than we need; a richness; plenty.
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope,
inspiration, assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that
expresses God’s abundance?
Romans 8:32: “ He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all – how will he not also, along with
him, graciously give us all things?”
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
After returning from a recent Presbytery meeting, I was filled with God’s abundant love. God is more than
sufficient. Our blessings are many – God gave us ALL of his creation. We are to care for these many blessings. As
God prospers me with his abundant blessings, I trust God’s love and provisions are sufficient. In response, I feel the
need to give back with much thankfulness to my Provider by sharing these abundant blessings. I found I am
happiest and full of joy when I show my abundant gratitude by giving my time, talent and treasure…Servant
Saturdays (Love, Serve, Repeat), Bereavement Care, Communion Set-up, Bible studies, Church School, Session
meetings, Presbyterian Women, the PW Retreat, Hospitality, etc. and pledging to support our staff and the
abundance of ministries our church assists. Because of God’s abundant generosity, I want to participate in the
many programs and ministries White Memorial offers so that I may share with others the abundant love, grace and
blessings of God – who gave us his ALL, including his only Son, for our ultimate gift - salvation!

you in this context?
“Abundance” means more than enough; more than we really need. But here is the secret: We have to actively look
for God’s blessings, and sometimes we miss them. We are often so busy with every-day tasks that we forget to
stop and appreciate all of the blessings God has given us.

assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
John 10:10: “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
When my husband passed away almost 3 years ago, I was devastated, but I found strength in a renewed sense of
appreciation for the abundant blessings God has given me. This appreciation didn’t come naturally, because I was
completely lost at first. But since I am admittedly a full-blown nerd, I always need to have a “strategy” for moving
forward. I tried to develop a strategy for facing the deep sadness that seemed to be taking over my life. How could
I possibly survive without the love of my life…my soul mate? My strategy for surviving my loss was pretty simple:
Instead of dwelling on how much I had lost, I tried to begin each day by thanking God for all of my blessings.
I found that it really wasn’t a struggle to think of the many things I treasured…my children, my family, dear friends
who gave their time to help us get through that sad time, perfect strangers who cared for my husband in the
hospital and helped our family through some dark days, etc. My struggle was to remember to start each day with
those thoughts.
It worked! I found that if I consciously filled my heart with gratefulness for the abundance of my blessings, there
was no room left for the despair that might have taken over my life. Now that is just one more blessing, isn’t it?

This year our Stewardship theme is "Every Blessing in Abundance." What does the word "abundant" mean to
you in this context?
In a worldly sense, abundant is a term to measure or compare. For those of us who are citizens of this
country, live and work in the Triangle, worship at WMPC and have the love and support of a healthy family,
our comparative blessings are very, very abundant. In a spiritual context, however, for me, the feeling of
abundance is a state of mind that flows from a deep sense of thankfulness for God's presence in our lives,
his unconditional and unending love for us, and his promise of eternal life.

inspiration, assurance and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God's abundance.
Psalm 23 1-3: “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he
leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's
sake.”
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God's abundance (at White Memorial, with a
group from our church or in your own life)?
Wish I could tell you about some big moments, when events in life brought me so close to God, that I could
clearly describe inspiring words, the sensation of feeling God's abundance. Unfortunately, I can’t. Sometimes,
however, in a quiet moment when I'm still, I feel the light touch of God's spirit and a wave of thankfulness and
peace washes over me, and for a brief time, before my mind wanders back to duties of the day, I sense God's
presence and love. These are fleeting moments and the timing is unpredictable. This sense of great peace, an
understanding that God has abundantly provided all that I need and more,might come when I'm sitting on the
deck watching the treetops gently sway in the wind, when I'm leaning on a loved one watching the sun go down
over the water, when I hear the story of a life steeped in faith, love and forgivingness, when I'm reflecting on the
blessing of family on Christmas morning, when I take a minute to marvel at the miracle of children, or when I'm
listening to a beautiful anthem on Sunday morning. In quiet, still moments like these, there are times when I
feel very connected to God's abundant love.

you in this context?
More than I need, and much more than I deserve.
We have been blessed beyond measure by God’s Word to us. The Bible is filled with words of hope, inspiration,
assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
A recent Witness to the Resurrection service allowed the congregation to recite Psalm 23 together—a true source
of hope and comfort. For the message of God’s abundant blessings, I am drawn to Psalm 23:5: “You prepare a
table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
Eight years ago, my husband and I moved back to Raleigh and joined WMPC, my childhood church home. Not
knowing many church friends as “an adult,” I showed up at a Presbyterian Women’s circle meeting to get
connected to a small group for fellowship and Bible study. I was extended the blessing of hospitality and friendship
by this circle of sisters in Christ. Since that time, I have seen God’s gifts of care and generosity through the women
of PW. Whether it is hosting funeral luncheons for a member’s family, offering rides to circle events, sending notes
and cards, or praying for one another, circle groups support their members in good times and bad. Each PW circle
supports local and global agencies every year, both physically and financially. Over the past few years, PW as a
whole has funded thousands of dollars in supplies for the WMPC Russia Knitting committee, in roof repairs for a
member’s home church destroyed in a hurricane, in books for an orphanage in Haiti, for PW Women’s retreat
speaker fees/scholarships/missions, and for new risers for the WMPC music ministry. The Presbyterian Women of
WMPC surely display the spirit of Christ and share God’s abundant grace. My cup has overflowed through PW, and
for that I am truly thankful.

How long have you worshiped at White Memorial?
I have been at White Memorial since preschool and kindergarten. My mother and father joined when they moved
to Raleigh in 1957. My father was a B17 pilot in WWII and my mother was German and a nurse in Berlin during the
war. They met while my father served in the Allied occupation after the war. When she came to the United States,
she left behind her family, her society, culture and everything she had known in life never to return. She spoke
English but not well. The women’s circle headed by Ann Kimery at White Memorial made her feel welcome to the
United States, to Raleigh and to the church family. My lifelong support for White Memorial is partially a return of
thanks for what the church family did for my mother and our family to make us feel welcome here in Raleigh.
This year our Stewardship theme is “Every Blessing in Abundance.” What does the word “abundant” mean to
you in this context?
Abundant means that there is more than an adequate amount to serve a need. Abundant food would feed enough
to fulfill your hunger well and possibly those of others. Abundant financial resources satisfy your needs to be able
to pay for the necessities of life plus more. Abundant strength allows one to accomplish a task with reserves to do
other things. We all have blessings of food, necessities of life, and financial resources. What we have is enough for
ourselves. If we balance our true needs with the resources we have, there is an abundance that allows us all to
help and share with others.

assurance, and love. What is your favorite Bible verse that expresses God’s abundance?
I do not have a favorite verse. I feel that our lives with the support of our friends, our co-workers and our church
family have abundant resources to take care of ourselves as individuals, of each other and those we do not know.
The Church family and the Bible remind us of how the needs that we have are and will always be satisfied by God.
That is a wonderful blessing to know that we are loved and will be taken care of.
Can you think of a time when you experienced a sense of God’s abundance (at White Memorial, with a group
from our church or in your own life)?
My statement of my family’s start with the Church above is an example. As a young adult, a husband, a father and
friend, I am constantly reminded that “I have it pretty good.” Be thankful and be open to helping others lives also.
I have had a large reminder of God’s path and abundance when I recently became CFO at the Methodist Home for
Children. God provided me with a work outlet after having retired from my 30+ year career in business. I
accepted the position to satisfy my work need. However, God has given me more in this work. He has given me the
opportunity to see hard lives made better by Methodist Home employees and community support. He has given
me the opportunity to see that my work can be a part this organization’s work for others. That is an unexpected
abundance for me.
