Time flies fast, but we are ready. Ice on lake Kallavesi has
developed perfectly and skating track will be in very good
conditition. We also have more co-operating partners than ever,
which means that we can make everything better than ever. New
things like VIP-area and After Skate -party will bring new thrilling
atmosphere to the event.
The registration has been open for sometime now and at the
moment we can happily say, that the amount of registrations has
been good so far. We already have a nice number of participants
from different countries. We hope, that we will break the record on
the amount of particpants from different countries, which is 15
different nationalities in one event up to this date. So come and
bring your friends too! This way we will have great event with a lot
of new connections. This is an essential part of our event, like mrs

A love letter to all Finland Ice Marathon friends abroad
Dear old and new skating friends,
Winter in Kuopio has turned to its best
part: nice cold and sunshine. We haven’t
had much snowthis winter meaning that
the ice has frozen to a so-called steel ice,
without any snow in it. That promises hard
and glidy surface on the skating track on
Lake Kallavesi. The freezing coldness we
have had this month means also that the
traditional 12.5 km long skating track will
be possible. We are expecting the first
part of the track being in use next
weekend. I am looking forward to the
weekend with the opening of the skating
season on the ice of Lake Kallavesi. It is
going to be such a great fun again! But
how are you, our skating friends in
different countries? We really hope to see
you here again.
Welcome Henk Hendriks from the
Netherlands to skate your 46th 200 km
race – not all here in Kuopio! Welcome Cor
Tass for the 38th time to Kuopio! We wish warmly welcome the dutch Jongeneel team for the 21st
Finland Ice Marathon visit and we thank Jongeneel Transport for all the support. Hotze Zandstra
and Yoeri Takken, welcome to compete for the win of 200 km! “Herzlich willkommen das elfte Mal
die Familie Bohler”, our true friends and “agents” in Germany! How is life in the Westminster School
in London? Teacher David Riches, welcome for the 11th time with your boys and girls as well as
David jr. to Finland Ice Marathon! These youngsters from London have every year been
phenomenal most of them having had their first skating lesson ever on the previous day Friday and
having skated next day’s event 25 km… Welcome the lovely McCarthy family from Ireland ! Finland
Ice Marathon wouldn’t be the same without you. You spread such a warm and happy feeling where
ever you go and who ever you meet.
Finally Russians. At first I apologize to you for not having mentioned you in my Finland Ice
Marathon 30 years speech in the connection with the prize giving ceremonies last year.
Gennadij Bogopolskij from Moscow representing Russian Skating Union of Masters has
participated in Finland Ice Marathon al least since 2006, usually in 100 km race. In 2013 he skated
200 km and it seems that is planning to do so also this year. Welcome to Kuopio Gennadij, Mikhail
Boyarskij, our “dancing queen” Ludmila Koren with her mother Tatjana and all the other Russians,
too! Доъро пожаловать в Куопио Геннадий, Минаил и наши другие друзья из России!
A very big part of the Finland Ice Marathon event is friendship between people from different
countries. They all love skating and Kuopio, but they also love to meet each other year after year.
We love you all!
Welcome to Kuopio!
