School Production The Jungle Book August 19 & 20 TAS is proud to present The Jungle Book, based on the stories of Rudyard Kipling. Starring our Year 10 and 11 Drama students, supported by others, Baloo and Bagheera teach Mowgli the Jungle law under the watchful eye of Akela's wolf pack and the evil eye of Shere Kahn and his crazy side kick Tabaqui the jackal. Performances are at Maungakaramea Hall on Wednesday August 19 (1pm and 7pm) and Thursday August 20 (7pm). Tickets are $5 child /$10 an adult. Tickets will be available from the school by cash and internet banking (account 12 3115 0012400 00 using the code 'Jungle Book' and your name). To help with costuming we would appreciate scraps of fur fabric in a variety of colours and black, grey and beige long sleeved polar neck shirts. If you are willing to donate or lend these for costumes please drop them off at the school office. Music@TAS the senior choir and the jazz band were both successful at the Rhapsody Rotorua Music Festival last term. The choir was awarded a bronze medal and the jazz band a silver medal. Courtney Summers gave outstanding performances of Skyfall and Don't Know Why in a public concert. This term will be busy with the jazz band (supplemented by some players from the concert band) performing for the school show, Jungle book, and many students will also be involved in TAS Creative at Forum North which is on the 16th of September. Soon the finalists of TAS X-Factor will be decided and we will get to see them perform at school assembly and TAS Creative. We were sorry to see our vocal teacher and choir director Lisbe Jooste leave us but we are excited to have appointed Debbie Graham in her place. Debbie has wide experience taking choirs, performing in musical theatre and with Opera North and was the vocal coach for the recent production of Hairspray.
