Dining
History & Architecture
Whether you’re searching for a formal dinner, a quick lunch,
afternoon tea or someplace to meet for a drink, Macy’s on
State Street is the place. Our reputation for quality, service
and variety extends to all our dining establishments.
WALNUT ROOM (7th floor) Opened in 1907, it’s one of
Chicago’s most beloved restaurants. You can still sit by the
17-foot marble fountain and enjoy a traditional chicken
potpie made from Mrs. Hering’s original recipe.
FRANGO® CAFÉ (7th floor) In a relaxed atmosphere, feast on
entrées from the grill, sandwiches and Frango desserts.
SEVEN ON STATE (7th floor) An upscale food court featuring
selections from members of the Macy’s Culinary Council.
INFIELD’S (Lower level) A neighborhood pub perfect for
grabbing lunch or the latest on Chicago’s sports teams.
MARKETPLACE FOODS (Lower level) A casual food court
offering home-style foods, sushi, pizza, salads and deli fare.
COOKBOOK CAFÉ (1st floor) Order your favorite State Street
entrées to go.
Our State Street store was designated a National Historic
Landmark in 1979 for both its beauty and historical
significance. The store is also an architectural marvel,
containing such well-known icons as:
THE GREAT CLOCKS (State & Washington, 1897 and State &
Randolph, 1907) These massive and elegant timepieces
weigh in at more than seven tons each.
GREAT GRANITE PILLARS (State Street entrance) Installed in
1902, only those at the Temple of Karnak in Egypt are taller.
THE TIFFANY CEILING (5th floor viewing) Installed in 1907,
it’s the largest unbroken example of Tiffany glass in the
world, containing more than 1.6 million pieces.
THE LOST FOUNTAIN (Atrium) Constructed in 1991 and
made in the likeness and scale of Daniel Burnham’s original
plans for the State Street building.
THE 28 SHOP® (3rd floor) Created in 1941, this haute couture
shop originally housed 28 dressing salons. Christian Dior
and a very young
Yves Saint Laurent
made their first trip
to America in 1957
to visit The 28 Shop.
