DIRECTOR BIO
Kirsten Tan is a writer/director with a penchant for visual storytelling and off-beat
humor. She first studied film under Ngee Ann Poly's ADFP program on Singapore's
Media Education Scheme scholarship.
Being a bit of an adventurer, Kirsten Tan was raised in Singapore but has lived in
South Korea and Thailand before coming to New York City to pursue her Master’s in
Film Production at NYU. There she was honored to receive the Tisch School of the
Arts Fellowship.
Singapore’s national broadsheet, The Straits Times has exhorted her as a "director
to look out for" and her work has been screened in over 40 film festivals, receiving 10
over international awards, including “Best Director” and "Special Jury Prize" at the
Singapore International film festival and a “National Prize” at the Kodak Film Awards
for outstanding cinematography.
Film venues that have screened her work include Rotterdam Int'l film fest, Busan Int'l
film fest, MOMA (Museum of Modern Art, NY) and the Director's Guild of America
Theater in NY and LA.
Commercially, she has directed content for Heineken, TED Talks, Magnum Ice
cream, Central Singapore / Credit-Suisse and the United Nations Development
Program.
Her most recent feature screenplay – “Popeye” is selected to participate in a project
lab at Berlin Int’l film festival’s script station.
