Territorial Policing Command - Suspects who have absconded from

Freedom of Information Request Reference No:
I note you seek access to the following information:
1. How many suspects have absconded from bail - given either by police or courts - in
the last three years, including 2012, 2013 and 2014?
2. How many of that number are wanted in connection with a serious offence ie assault,
robbery, burglary, rape and attempted rape?
Decision
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
The MPS has interpreted this request as meaning any person who has been bailed from
a police station to attend court, or any person who has been bailed from a court to reattend that court or another court.
Data has been extracted from the Emerald Warrant Management System (EWMS)
database and includes information on Fail to Appear and Bench Warrants where
HMCTS informs the MPS that a warrant has been issued.
The data provided shows all Fail to Appear and Bench Warrants created on EWMS
within the years specified. We should highlight that this includes open and closed
records to give a clearer picture of all warrants issued during that time period
We have included all warrant types and this will include those issued for other
prosecuting agencies such as DWP, Local Authorities and breaches of orders.
Due to the wide definition of "serious" we have disclosed all of the offence types to
provide a fuller answer to your query.
Please find attached information pursuant to your request above.

Police forces in the United Kingdom are routinely required to provide crime statistics to government
bodies and the recording criteria is set nationally. However, the systems used for recording these
figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the crime data . It should be
noted that for these reasons this force ' s response to your questions should not be used for
comparison purposes with any other response you may receive .
