President`s Message - The Traffic Club Of Cleveland

March 2017
President’s Message
Traffic Club of Cleveland Members,
As my term comes to an end, I
want to take this time to thank all of
the active and retired members that
make this club so great. Each year,
the club hosts events to not only
gather our members in one place,
but to also bring in valued guests to
show them the comradery and
passion our members have for each
other.
What you may not know is all
the hard work that goes into these
events behind the scenes. Our
board and the executive team is
hard at work finalizing details and
even fixing last second issues that
have come up.
The end result though is a
smooth event with great food and
laughter.
With that said, the club
welcomes all the extra help we can
get. Right now we have an open
position on our board. I invite
anyone that would like to lead our
club well past our 100 year mark.
This is also a great opportunity for
someone just learning the trucking
industry and wants to gain both
leadership experience and
knowledge from our roster of very
successful people.
Personally, the last four years of
being part of the board has been
instrumental in my professional
development. The contacts I have
made throughout the club has been
crucial to my current success.
Finally, I want to personally
invite you to our Spring Reverse
Raffle on April 20th, and our
Memorial Golf Outing on June 8th.
These events are always great
entertainment and fun and hopefully
will see some faces we haven’t seen
in a while.
One last note: the President of
the TCC is nothing without his or her
board members and executive team.
Thank you to each one of you for
your help and continued dedication
to the Club, and also for supporting
me during my term.

It’s hard to believe that another year has passed and we are preparing for The Traffic

We are pleased that we have been able to maintain our price of $ 75.00 that includes
Donuts, Coffee, Lunch, Dinner, and Golf with Cart. What an awesome deal for a great
event!
This is always a well-attended event and we have added even more prizes. We will
have 2 hole-in-one prizes this year. There will be a car for a hole in one contest on
one of the par 3s again this year. Also we will have a closest to the pin on # 3, and
#17 for under 65 and over 65. Additionally, a long drive on #8, and #12 for under 65

of the 2 hole in one prizes rules state everyone has to hit from the same tee.
You will find a registration form in this Periscope so get your foursome together and
come join the fun.
We can always use hole sponsors and appreciate everyone who continues to sponsor
a hole in honor of a deceased member of the Traffic Club of Cleveland.
If you are interested in sponsoring a hole, or want to sponsor a hole as you have in the
past, or have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 330-242-3375. Thank

A wish I have is that you all look at our memorial list. I am quite sure a couple of the names will put a smile on your
face. Last year we had 90 hole sponsors. Thank you very much! If you would be so kind to sponsor again this year,
please send your check to the new box #: P.O. Box 14 Mentor, OH 44060. Your support is greatly appreciated and

our memorial list! Thanks be to God!
See you at the reverse raffle and/or our memorial golf outing!

Past President’s Corner
We lost another good guy! Dennis Downey, Sr. was our great writer in our Periscope
on our retirees. He loved doing it and it showed up in all of his articles. Dennis was
only 65 and will be greatly missed.
We have 25 past presidents who are living. And in Dennis’s memory we will have an
article in The Periscope. On one or more of them, depending on the space. The
articles on the past presidents will be "where are you?" and “how are you?"
Thanks in advance for your support!
Pasquale "Pat" Deluca
Don Bower
Past President #94
2006-2007
I grew up in a trucking family and still have not figured out how to get trucking out of my
life. I was always on the motor carrier side of things until I became associated with
Springco Metal Coating, which is a private fleet operation.
I am still working part-time at Springco Metal Coating. I find having a little something
coming in every week allows me a bigger bike and better beer. I am working on
enjoying a semi-retired lifestyle. I stay busy with helping out at Church, doing stuff with
the kids and grandkids, and trying to find time to ride my motorcycle and sail my little
sailboat.
Having started the current incarnation of the Club’s website, I am still busy messing
around with computers and miscellaneous tech hobbies. I feel a little guilty about
missing so many of the Club’s functions the last few years, and need to mend my
ways.
Best Wishes to All!

The Traffic Club of Cleveland’s
Annual Scholarship
Every year, the Traffic Club of Cleveland awards collegiate students who have completed their
freshman year with a scholarship. While it may not be a lot, we are hopeful that our award can pay
for a book, materials, and supplies. Our recipients are very grateful and we are even more eager to
award these future leaders. Last year, we awarded $1600 to eight applicants. An application is
available on the next page, and will also be available on our Facebook page as well. Please make
submit you application by the 30th of April to be eligible for the award.
I would be remiss if I did not also thank our Scholarship Banner Sponsors who make this all possible.
It is the genorisity of this fine companies that helps us continue with this great program. Please help
me thank the following companies that contributed in our most recent Banner Drive: Freightmeister
Inc, Briarwood Golf Club, Statewide Express, Slusser Agency, Star Leasing, Centran Logistics,
Cleveland Express Trucking, Eckes Towing Company, The Diner at 55th, MDL Logistics, RDF, Trailer
One, Pat DeLuca Consultants, Pinzone Meats, JMJ Transportation, Shippers C&D, Bianca’s
Restaurant, and WW Williams.
If you would like to participate in this year’s Scholarship Banner, you can donate $50 to have you
name added to the banner, or $100 to have your company name and logo. I am very grateful and
humbled to all that have donated in the past and hope that you continue with your generosity.
Thank You,
Jim Paluf
