A
RED HOUSE RECORDS CATALOG
WHERE ROOTS MEET THE HERE AND NOW
A MESSAGE TO OUR CUSTOMERS!
Greetings from Saint Paul, Minnesota!
It’s been another standout year for Red House Records! It began with a Grammy Nomination for Eliza Gilkyson’s The Nocturne
Diaries in the category of Best Folk Album, followed by a strong collection of brand new music. You were treated to Jorma
Kaukonen’s third Red House album, Ain’t in No Hurry, a record that features some of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s strongest
songwriting. It’s a testament to a musician whose career continues to get stronger after more than 50 years in music!
In April, we released Stumpjumper, the Red House debut from one of Minnesota’s most popular musicians, Charlie Parr. For the
record he enlisted a band for the first time to perform on the record and ventured out-of-state to North Carolina to record with
producer Phil Cook. The result is an album that captures the raw spirit and energy of Charlie’s music with the added groove of
keys and drums. Stumpjumper debuted on the Billboard Blues chart, was named one of the Top 20 Folk/Roots Albums of the
summer of 2015 by Rhapsody Music and continues to be one of our hottest selling records of the year.
As summer rolled in, things got crazy with Call Me Insane, another classic country album from Dale Watson. Like a modern day
jukebox, the album features instant honky-tonk classics like “Jonesin’ for Jones” and “Everybody’s Somebody in Luckenbach, Texas.”
The album reached the Billboard Top Country Albums Chart and continues to win Dale new fans around the world.
“The first-couple of Americana music” (Mojo Magazine), Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams, unveiled their self-titled Red House
debut to critical acclaim. No strangers to the Americana/roots music world, they’ve performed with everyone from Bob Dylan
and Levon Helm to Mavis Staples and Emmylou Harris. The record received rave reviews and landed on Rolling Stone’s “30 Great
Country Albums of 2015.” Larry and Teresa were personally asked by Jackson Browne to join him on his Fall US tour as well as
perform in his band. The couple received rave reviews and standing ovations during their opening sets and have fully stepped out
of the sidelines and into the spotlight.
We wrapped up our release year with A Silent Song, the long awaited new album from Scotland’s legendary folk troubadour
Archie Fisher. The record showcases the artistry and craft that has made him one of the greatest traditional folk singers of all time.
As we move into 2016, we’ve got some exciting new music slated for release from new artists as well as veterans of the label. You’ll
hear the Red House debut from The Cactus Blossoms, You’re Dreaming. Featuring the incredibly seamless harmonies of brothers
Jack Torrey and Page Burkum, they combine early rock ’n’ roll with a classic country sound, coupled with catchy and thoughtful lyrics.
The Pines return to the spotlight with their 4th Red House album, Above the Prairie. Perhaps their finest album, the record shows
the band expanding their sonic palette with 10 brand new originals including a collaboration with Native American actor/singer/
poet/activist John Trudell.
Our jazz catalog continues to expand with August Love Song, a unique pairing between Heather Masse and the legendary,
avant-garde jazz trombonist Roswell Rudd. Later in the year we’ll unearth the long lost recording Before the Beginning from John
Gorka. This was an early draft of songs that would eventually end up on his classic album I Know, but these songs appear with
strikingly different arrangements and production by Grammy-winning producer Jim Rooney.
As you can tell, it’s been an exciting year and we’re looking forward to bringing new music to you in the coming year. Thanks
again for your continued support of independent music. We couldn’t have made it this far without you!
The Red House Records Staff
OUR FOUNDER BOB FELDMAN SAID IT BEST:
”Red House artists are players, singers and songwriters that make a difference
in people’s lives–important musicians with a living dream and vision from which
we all can learn. Our philosophy as a label is to provide a home and environment
in which creative artists can make albums in total freedom–without interference
from mogul types just looking for the next hit single. In support of these same
artists, we are also working to build their audience, one community at a time
all over the globe. Simply put, we make records we love, knowing that there are
people out there who will feel the same way when they hear our music or see the
artists in concert. So whether you’re an old friend or just meeting us for the first
time, keep in touch. We love hearing from you and are always glad to pass your
comments on to the artists.
Thanks again for your support!”

A SCOTTISH FOLK LEGEND RETURNS WITH HIS FIRST ALBUM IN SEVEN YEARS
ARCHIE FISHER
A SILENT SONG • RHR 235 CD
“[the songs] weave a tapestry of a life well lived, and keenly observed.... a rare and deeply felt
celebration of life’s many joys and sorrows.” - CELTIC MUSIC
“the wait again was worth it...another triumph for a folk-music hero.” - RAMBLES.NET
Beloved worldwide as one of the finest traditional singers of all time, MBE Archie Fisher is
recognized as Scotland’s foremost folk troubadour with a career spanning over five decades. A talent
that transcends generations and genres, he came out of the rich Edinburgh scene that gave rise to the
Incredible String Band, John Renbourn, Steeleye Span and Bert Jansch. A Silent Song finds Archie’s rich
warm voice as elegant and expressive as ever. The mix of tracks includes new Fisher originals (“Waltz
into Winter,” “Lord of the May ,” “Half the World Away,” “Song for a Friend,” “You Took the Day”), neglected
traditional classics (“Mary Ann,” “Bonnie Annie Laurie”), and his characteristically fine interpretations of
songs by others (“No Way to Treat a Friend,” “A River Like You,” “The Gifts”). Archie’s voice and stunning
guitar work are augmented by Luna Skye (cello), Linda Richards (vocals), Rob Norris and Joel Sayles
(bass).... as well as Phillip Mazure(guitar) and Isaac Alderson (flute) from the Celtic band Comas.

AN UNDERGROUND BLUES AND
AMERICAN ROOTS LEGEND MAKES
HIS RED HOUSE DEBUT
CHARLIE PARR
STUMPJUMPER • RHR 283 CD and RHR 283 LP
“One of that dwindling band of living folk
musicians with truly original voices and an
approach that really isn’t a direct derivative
of anything that came before.”
- MAVERICK
“In my humble opinion, Parr is one of the top
voices in modern American folk music.”
- RHAPSODY
“a sound that is both full, and ambitiously
stripped-down to the very root of primitive
American music.”
- SAVING COUNTRY MUSIC
A part of the vibrant Duluth, MN music scene
(Low, Trampled by Turtles), Charlie Parr has long
been the buzz of underground circles with an ever
growing host of fans. His inspiration is drawn from
the alternately fertile and frozen soil of Minnesota;
his songs exude a Midwestern sensibility and
humility. Both of his parents worked proud union
jobs in an industrial meat factory and his largely
rural background resonates through his original
songs. Stumpjumper constitutes his national label
debut. Percussive and raw, the 11 songs could be
lost field recordings from another era. His blistering
picking – he switches between acoustic guitar, dobro
and banjo – and keening, cut-through-the-crowd
vocals resonate with a conviction that runs deep and
true. Charlie traveled to North Carolina to record this
album with fellow musician Phil Cook (Megafaun, Hiss
Golden Messenger). Joined by Cook and a hot cast of
local players on the “Down Yonder Farm” in rural North
Carolina – it’s also the first recording of Charlie’s to
feature a full band.

RUTH MOODY
“her songs bear a timeless nature belying her young age”
- AUSTIN CHRONICLE
“the prettiest voice in all of North America these days”
- HUFFINGTON POST
THESE WILDER THINGS • RHR 266 CD
Ruth Moody is one of contemporary folk’s most brilliant young
songwriters and this solo project bears testimony why. Its beautiful
and melodic tracks explore the midnight heartbreaks and morning
revelations of love and loss. “It can be scary to go to some of those darker
and deeper places,” Ruth says. “But...that is where the real emotional intensity
lives and I think that’s what moves people.” The originals are terrific... from the
haunting gospel of “Trouble and Woe,” to the bluegrassy “One Light Shining,”
(featuring dobro master Jerry Douglas) to the Irish-flavored “Life Is Long.” She
also does a stunning makeover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark” that
would make The Boss smile. Joining her are a great cast of players including rock
legend Mark Knopfler on guitar and vocals and the pristine harmonies of Aiofe
O’Donovan and fellow Jennys Nicky Mehta and Heather Masse.
THE GARDEN • RHR 230 CD
Ruth’s first Red House solo album is a rich celebration of her songwriting and
voice, VINTAGE GUITAR called this solo project “as musically enticing as a ripe,
red pomegranate.” Backed by stellar players and vocalists, it divinely makes
manifest that Ruth Moody is one of today’s most important folk artists. Essential
for Jennys fans and all devotees of sublime acoustic music.

Hyman. After meeting on A Prairie Home Companion, the two quickly discovered
their sensibilities clicked. Recorded in HI-REZ DIRECT STREAM DIGITAL, the sound
quality on this hybrid SACD is amazing. Most tracks are classics from the great American
Songbook and two are Masse originals that sound like they belong there. Dick’s 60 year

Songwriters David Huckfelt and Benson Ramsey—along with keyboardist Alex
Ramsey—craft their music with a filmmaker’s keen eye for detail and framing,
blending ethereal atmospherics with rich, warm vocals and earthy acoustic
instruments. It’s a gripping brew that demands your total presence, transporting
you into vividly painted musical and lyrical snapshots. This latest album melds
folk, blues and rock into an evocative soundscape of profound resonance. From

loneliness that can exist in both, and the hope in between.

Tracy Grammer and her late partner, songwriter Dave Carter, were folk’s

them songs left off of other albums) was discovered during
an emergency archiving project in 2010, eight years after
Dave’s untimely passing. “Tears flowed, I laughed out loud,
memories flooded back,” she recalls. Dave’s voice and vision
hauntingly merge with Tracy’s harmonies and violin in a
reminder of the mystical and whimsical alchemy the duo
shared. Includes songs of acoustic simplicity and lyrical depth

gorgeous harmonies and simple acoustic production, the three songwriters
team up to cover each other’s songs and breathe new life into old favorites.
Many tracks feature each artist taking the lead on a classic first made famous

takes on Lucy’s classic “Don’t Mind Me” and Lucy, in turn, gives a stunning
performance of Eliza’s “Sanctuary”). There are also fresh takes on other early
originals and unique covers of Neil Young’s “I Am a Child,” Stewart MacGregor’s
“Coshieville” and the traditional folk hymn “Wayfaring Stranger.” An essential

FIRST DUET ALBUM BY TWO OF AUSTIN’S BEST YOUNG SONGWRITERS

“In today’s underground folk world, Schmidt is spoken of in reverent tones.” - AUSTIN CHRONICLE
FOR KEEPS • RHR 278 CD
www.redhouserecords.com/Elkin-Schmidt.html
She has a huge voice and is a riveting, impassioned performer and songwriter likened to Iris Dement and Patti Griffin;
he is a compassionate, literary songsmith of great skill. Somewhere along the winding and tangled paths of their
touring lives, they became entwined romantically and began touring together in 2012. As new songs emerged, it
became apparent that many of the songs belonged together, a sort of his and hers take
on life and love. The end result is this intriguing, honest peek into the dialogue of a
relationship, lending perspectives on community, friendship, communication, building a
life as a couple, marriage, fertility, difficult times together and the easy-loving ones. As
Danny says, “It’s the stuff we all talk about, or all don’t talk about, but should.”

RED HOUSE COMPILATIONS AND SAMPLERS!
RARE AND UNRELEASED RECORDINGS, FROM A BLUES MASTER!
DAVE RAY • LEGACY • RHR 276 CD
Specially priced at $30
“Nobody has topped (Koerner, Ray & Glover) for feel or drive or humor
or sheer affection for their folk-blues forebears like Leadbelly and
Memphis Minnie. HHHH” - FOLK ROOTS (UK)
Long in the making, we are proud to announce this COMPREHENSIVE
3-CD RETROSPECTIVE celebrating the 4-decade legacy of the late DAVE
“SNAKER” RAY, one of the great, unsung artists of the American blues
revival and an acknowledged influence on Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The
Doors, Bonnie Raitt, Beck and David Bowie. One of the first white artists to
study and learn the then little-known blues tunes from the 20s, 30s and 40s,
Ray brought an enthusiasm and raw, raunchy earthiness to his performance
style which set the stage for artists that followed. Produced, compiled
and annotated by his career-long colleague, Tony Glover, it features 55
AMAZING TRACKS OF MOSTLY UNRELEASED OR LONG OUT-OF-PRINT
RECORDINGS AND A 32-PAGE BOOKLET spanning his early days with the
folk blues trio Koerner, Ray & Glover to mid-career collaborations and solo
work, to his valiant last days at the peak of his artistic powers producing
his finest work while fighting terminal cancer. Legacy is a monumental
testament to an important, but all-too-often overlooked American Master.
A GREAT GIFT FOR THE BLUES AND ROOTS MUSIC AFICIANADO!
