I can compare maps to tell why maps have different information depending on the map’s
purpose.
For Teachers
Students will design maps to persuade an audience while taking into consideration the
audience’s point of view.
Students will compare and contrast two maps, explaining how the maps’ purpose
influences the information found on it (authorial intent).

Below are the learning targets for “World Maker.”
For Students
I can create a story and support it with evidence from my map.
I can make a map and use it to share information. The map will have:
A title.
A compass rose.
The author’s name.
The date.
A map legend.
Symbols.
For Teachers
Students will write a detailed text that aligns with the details of their map.
Students will create a map that includes a title, orientation, author, date, and symbols
(TOADS).
Note: Orientation refers to establishing spatial relationships (i.e. challenge the
students to understand that “north” and “up” are not synonymous).
