STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) skills have been identified as necessary to remain

teams tackle technological and scientific problems. Yet, women are persistently underrepresented in many
STEM fields, where the disparity begins in classrooms. And, it has a historical basis. Women’s
underrepresentation in STEM fields is rooted in the ways that women, their roles, and their abilities were
thought of at the start of the Industrial Revolution. We will use documents, videos, and images to explore
women who challenged the status quo to make an impact in STEM fields and who inspire today’s girls to do

Curriculum History, Literature
Description
This was Hemingway’s first novel, written in 1925 during his time in Paris. The Sun Also Rises vividly portrays
the lives of the members of the “Lost Generation”: the group of primarily expat men and women whose early
adulthood was consumed by World War I. The war deeply affected this generation’s standards for death and
morality, and shattered many beliefs in traditional values of love, faith, and patriotism. Without these long-held
notions to rely on, members of the Lost Generation suffered great moral and psychological aimlessness.
Discussion: How a common event can affect diverse groups with long-lasting outcomes.
