Neither food nor exercise are the complete solution - The BEST way to lose weight effectively is by journaling your food and activities and by burning more calories via daily activities than you consume as food. Use your Base Metabolic Rate as a guide to how many calories you should be having per day. Why is it difficult to keep the weight off? There are a couple of reasons for this. (1) your body has a set metabolic rate, and to change this rate can prove difficult, especially if you have been at your current weight for a long while. (2) fat cells never just disappear. They shrink, and they can proliferate in number, but they never ever go away. This makes it easier to re-gain the weight you have lost, because the fat cells are still there to store excess intake of calories. Isn’t there a specific food plan that will make me lose weight? With all of the requirements, pressures, and life event that you encounter each day, it can be difficult to maintain. Also, when you go on a “diet” ask yourself this question: What Happens When the Diet Ends? Plus, even if you stick with it and lose the weight--you might still not learn anything! How often you should exercise, how to handle a situation where you eat a "naughty" meal or two, how to truly integrate lasting changes into your life to keep the weight off. You have to learn what YOUR diet plan is, and what helps YOU lose weight sustain your success. To do this, start with the diet you currently have and slowly integrate the the diet you need for the long term. How do I create a calorie deficit each day in order to lose weight? Fortunately for all of us, your body burns most of the calories you need to burn by just living! They're rich in compounds that support good health, including fiber, nutrients, and phytochemicals. A dietary pattern based on these foods lowers the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and many major cancers. Highly processed carbohydrates, which are stripped of their nutritious germ and fiber, are another story. Unhealthful diets often contain too many carbohydrates processed into concentrated forms (corn syrup, white flour) that provide calories and little else.
