AVATAR BUILDER RESTRICTIONS
AVATAR BUILDER RESTRICTIONS NEW!
Teachers continue to ask for a way to restrict student access to their avatars during classroom sessions in
order to help maintain focus on TTM. Now, teachers have the ability to edit each of their classrooms’ settings to
disable access to students’ avatars for a set time period.
FOR EACH CLASS, TEACHERS WILL BE ABLE TO:
• Set Restrictions for a Set of Days! Restrict avatar access Monday through Friday from 1pm to 2pm, for example.
• Vary Access Per Day! Restrict access on Mondays from 8am to 9am, Tuesdays from 2pm to 3pm, etc.
• Allow Access for Periods of Time! For a class that starts at 8am and ends at 9am, avatar restrictions could be set
from 8am to 8:50am, allowing students avatar access for the last 10 minutes of class.

AVATAR BUILDER RESTRICTIONS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are the avatar restrictions time zone specific?
ANSWER: Yes! Times set are time zone specific for each classroom. For example, if a teacher sets a restriction
for a classroom in the Central Time Zone from 8am - 9am, students in that classroom will not be able to access
their avatars between 8am - 9am (Central Time).
What happens when a student is removed from a classroom?
ANSWER: If a student is removed from a classroom with avatar restrictions set, he or she will now have access
to his or her avatar without any restrictions (as long as that student is not enrolled in another class with avatar
restrictions set).
What happens when a student is moved to another classroom?
ANSWER: If a student is moved to another classroom, he or she will only experience avatar restrictions set by
the teacher in the new classroom. For example, if a student was in a class where avatar restrictions were set
between 8am-9am, and that student is moved to a new class with avatar restrictions set between 1pm-2pm.
Now, he or she will not have access to their avatar between 1pm-2pm only.
What happens if a user sets an invalid restriction window?
ANSWER: An invalid restriction window occurs when a start time is set after the end time or the end time is
set before the start time. When an invalid restriction window is set and a user tries to save, an error message
will display at the top of the page, and the classroom settings will not be saved until the validation window is
corrected.
What happens when a student is enrolled in multiple classrooms with avatar restrictions?
ANSWER: Anytime more than one set of permissions is set for a student, the longer set of permissions will ‘win’
(restricting a student from accessing their avatar), even if a student is not currently in the class with the longer
set of restrictions.
What happens when a student is enrolled in multiple classrooms and one of those classrooms is deactivated?
ANSWER: If a student is enrolled in a class that is deactivated, he or she will still remain active in his or her
other class(es). However, if an avatar restriction was set for 8am-9am in the classroom that was deactivated, the
student will now be able to access their avatar between 8am-9am (as long as the other class(es) in which the
student is enrolled does/do not have avatar restrictions set between the 8am-9am window).
What happens if a student is currently in the avatar designer and restrictions for the current class are applied?
ANSWER: If a student is already in their avatar and restrictions kick in (say the student begins a session before
the restriction is set, but the sessions bleeds over into restricted time), the student will be able to complete their
transaction. However, when they exit their avatar designer, they will not be able to return to their avatar until
the restricted time period ends.
