Welcome Back Families!
It was wonderful to see so many eager and excited children coming back to school on
the first day. A warm welcome goes out to the new families who are joining us for the
first time. Whether you are coming from near or far, you will find École Victoria-Albert
School to be a safe and caring environment for all!
Our French Immersion program continues to grow! We now have French Immersion
classrooms from Kindergarten to Grade 2. We also have 3 English Program Nursery/
Kindergarten classes in addition to our Grade 1-6 English classes. What a vibrant
school community!
Please join us for the Meet the Staff Evening on Thursday, September 18th from
5:30-7:00 p.m. At that time you will have a chance to meet the École Victoria-Albert
School team, talk with your child’s teacher and learn more about their school day.
Our dedicated school team has worked hard to prepare for another great year. We
invite you to come along on your child’s learning journey. There will be many
opportunities to participate in your child’s school life this year and your involvement
and support sends the very important message that education is important. Together,
we can work to ensure success for everyone.
As your administrators, we look forward to working with you in the year ahead. Please
feel free to call or drop by the office if you ever have any questions or concerns.
Together we can work to provide a safe and caring environment that promotes

NUT, SEAFOOD, EGG ALERT
There are serious life-threatening food allergies among our students. We are asking that parents/
guardians do not send any nut, seafood or eggs to school. (ie: peanut butter sandwiches)
CLOTHING EXPECTATIONS/HATS:
We remind parents that we have appropriate dress expectations for staff and students. How students
wear clothing is a statement of mutual respect for one another and for our school as a whole.
We expect that students remove hats when entering the building, and not wear clothing that exposes
mid-riffs, or undergarments. Clothing with offensive language is not permitted. We also encourage
all adults to please remove their hats as they enter Victoria-Albert School as a sign of respect and to
develop further consistency. We appreciate your support in this.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT
This year we plan to hold monthly Parent Council Meetings. Please plan to attend these meetings to learn
about the exciting programs we offer. These meetings will also provide you with an opportunity to give us
feedback. Information regarding our first meeting will be forthcoming.
PATROL SAFETY
École Victoria-Albert School patrols are very conscientious and do an excellent job helping students
cross the street safely. Please encourage your children to listen to the patrols and to cross the streets
under their supervision. School patrols are on the corners of Ellen and William, Bannatyne and Gertie, Bannatyne and Ellen, Gertie and William. Please see that your children arrive and leave during the times patrols are on duty. School patrols are on duty from 8:40 to 9:00 a.m.; 11:55 to
12:10 p.m.; 12:45 to 1:00 p.m. and 3:25 to 3:40 p.m. We will have an adult crossing guard, Mrs.
McMahon, on duty at the corner of Elgin and Ellen. The guard will be on duty at 8:20 to 9:00 a.m.,
12:00 to 12:15 p.m., 12:30 to 1:00 p.m., and 3:30 to 3:45 p.m. Please remind your children not to
talk to strangers or to accept rides in vehicles with people they do not know. Please remind your
child that he/she is not allowed to leave the playground area during recess.
ATTENDANCE and CALLBACK SYSTEM
It is important for all students to attend school regularly. If a child must be absent due to
illness or for another reason, please phone the school at 943-3459, or send a note with another child. If
we do not hear from you and your child is absent our callback system goes into effect. We will call your
home to find out why the child is away. If we cannot reach you, we must try to locate the child through
siblings, friends, or a home visit. This system is in place to ensure that children arrive safely at school.
Please notify the school if your child is going to be away. This will save us many hours of phone calls
and searching for students.
NOTE: Should your child have to leave the school for an appointment, please provide a note. We cannot
allow any child to leave the school if he/she does not have a note from the parent/guardian. Students in
grades 1-3 should be picked up any time they have to leave the school, as patrols are not on duty during
school time.
NURSERY/KINDERGARTEN - Students must be dropped off at 8:50 a.m. or 12:55 p.m. and picked up
at 11:30 a.m. or 3:30 p.m. Please see that these arrangements are made ahead of time. It is very upsetting
to students when they are not picked up on time.
School Information
VALUABLES
Students should not bring jewelry, money, video games, cell phones or other valuables to school.
Neither the school nor the School Division are responsible for these items. If items are lost, it is
often impossible to locate them. Students will not be permitted to use cell phones during school
hours.
VOLUNTEERS
École Victoria-Albert School welcomes many volunteers back for another year. The need for
volunteers is endless - in the classroom, on field trips, one-to-one tutoring, and helping with special
events. Anyone interested in helping, please call our volunteer coordinator at 943-3459. Parents and
school working together to help children create a very special place. Please come and join us!
BREAKFAST PROGRAM
Mrs. Sittler has started the breakfast program. It begins at 8:30 a.m. Monday to Friday. Patrols are not on duty
at this time, therefore, parents must take the responsibility of ensuring that their children arrive safely at
school.
LUNCH PROGRAM
The Ëcole Victoria-Albert Parent Council has a paid lunch program. Any parent/guardian wishing their child
(ren) to stay for lunch must complete a lunch application available in the office. Payment is made for the supervision of students and includes a glass of milk. Parents/guardians must send a lunch with their child(ren).
Monthly payments must be made in advance on the first of each month. Please make payments to the
office. Due to the high number of students staying for lunch on a regular basis, we no longer offer “drop in”
or occasional lunch program spaces.
School Information
École Victoria-Albert will again have pizza days this year as a fund raiser. All
students (grades 1 to 6) are invited to stay for lunch in their classrooms on this day.
Students can order pizza, milk and a piece of fruit. Students who are part of the
lunch program may par$cipate in the pizza lunch or they may bring their own bag
lunch to eat in the classroom. This is an op$onal program. The money raised from
pizza sales goes to pay for school ac$vi$es not covered by our regular budget.
Students who wish to go home for lunch may do so. We must have the following
deadlines to ensure that the correct amount of pizza is ordered for each pizza day.
In order to help you plan your year, pizza days are planned for these dates:
Pizza Day - Tuesday, Sept. 30. For September only we will be having a
Welcome Back Treat - students will receive a FREE pizza lunch!

Things To Know
SIGN-OUT BOOK
If your child needs to leave school before regular dismissal times, an adult
is requested to ‘signout’ the child. Please come to the office first and we
will call your child to the office.
OUTDOOR RECESS
All students are expected to go outside for all recess breaks. If students are
well enough to come to school, we feel they are well enough to go outside.
The only exception will be students under a doctor’s care. During the cold
months we will have a shortened or indoor recess as per the Winnipeg
School Division’s guidelines.
We feel this policy is reasonable to all.
COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT PROGRAM:
Once again we will be conducting the Comprehensive Assessment Program
(often referred to as C.A.P) in September and October. This program
consists of assessment in the areas of Language Arts and Mathematics to
determine each child’s level of achievement from Nursery to Grade 6. The
main purpose of the program is to give teachers educational information
regarding children which will assist in developmentally appropriate
programming for each individual.
MISSION STATEMENT
Our school reflects the world around us. Each person is unique and will receive our respect and acceptance.
As a school, we foster peace and cooperation.
We promote a love of learning in a supportive and nurturing environment.
We encourage all persons in our school community to strive for their personal best as they find their place in the
world.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES
1. To provide opportunities for academic achievement through a variety of programs which meet the needs of
the individual child.
2. To build decision making skills so that students take responsibility for their education and become life long
learners.
3. To provide a safe, caring, learning environment that promotes cooperation and the acceptance of all
individuals.
4. To work as a team drawing on the strengths of all staff members so that all children are helped to achieve
their highest potential.
5. To communicate effectively with the home and community in order to develop a mutual understanding of
each other’s expectations of, and role in children’s education.
Behavioural Expectations
At École Victoria-Albert School we strive to maintain a positive, safe and caring learning community.

and will not be tolerated.

At École Victoria-Albert School, we use a variety of consequences and intervention strategies to deal with
inappropriate behavior. That may include.
• A phone call home or formal meeting with parents/guardians to discuss the situation.
• Removal from a situation if the student is disruptive.
• Loss of privileges.
• Use of contracts and behavior plans.
• Suspension for serious situations such as but not limited to verbal/physical assaults/threats.
