Friends of Warren County Park District 2015 Annual Report We begin with a big “Thank You” ! What to look for in 2016… Thanks to your support, Friends of Warren County Park District has been able to provide financial and volunteer help for our Park District in the past year. The “Playscape” at WC Armco Park is nearing completion and will be a wonderful place where children can experience the outdoors in a safe and natural environment. Friends have received a donation designated for this project and will be presenting this gift to the Park District in 2016. Membership dues and donations are a big part of our fund raising and these efforts have increased again in 2015. The Hisey Fall Festival, 5K Donut Dash, Kroger Community Rewards, the M2M Relay, and the sale of our Hisey nursery plants and trees have been our other major means of providing financial support for park programs and operations. Educational programs continue to be popular with local nature lovers. Winter hikes, Wildflower walks, Tree Identification, Backyard Bird Count, Wheat Harvesting, and Native American and Pioneer programs were led by Bill Lindauer and are always free to the public. Friends partnered with the Warren County Astronomical Society with viewings at the Rachel Hutzel Observatory. The “Bird Watching” group supplies us with great pictures that can be seen on our Facebook page. Friends of the Park reach out to the community by speaking to groups and attending local expos with information about our parks. Our Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalists presented Marydale Juvenile Court classroom lecture and field trip for the third year. “Nature Close To Home” is written by Dave Woehr and published monthly in the Lebanon Local newspaper. Friends are looking forward to the continuation of the Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist program by providing leadership in this year’s program. Scholarships will be offered by Friends to qualified applicants. For more information email Erin Shaw at [email protected]. Volunteers stepped up to the task of enhancing the WC Armco Park entrance with arbors and flowers this spring. They also kept the Hisey Nursery in fine condition, growing plants and trees to be transplanted in various parks. A pumpkin patch provided all the pumpkins for the Hisey Fall Festival…..one weighing 109 lbs. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers!
