For example, Joseph Harris in his essay, Beowulf a Literary History suggests that the study and literary analysis of Beowulf is incomplete. What Harris feels is missing is an in depth study of the literary history of the work. Harris points out that since the 1950’s literary analysis focused more on the psychological aspect leaving out the historical context which is important in studying Beowulf. His essay attempts to study the epic poem from an historical point of view. Place: Harris, John http://www.jstor.org/pss/1316390 at the end of the paper
