Beowulf
Choose from 1 of the following projects for our closure of Beowulf.
1. An original drawing of a scene depicted in the epic poem
2. Choose some contest or athletic event that you can write about in the style of Beowulf,
using compound words, alliteration and strong accented words. Remember the conflict
needs to be presented early to keep the reader’s interest. For example,
The two mighty, majestic warhorses
Plunged, pounded and surged out of the gate
As if chased by the hounds of hell
Minimum 14 lines, typed double spaced with single spaced heading, please. Challenge- include:
kennings, imagery, foreshadowing
3. Research paper topic: literacy analysis of Beowulf. Strict MLA is not required for this
1page paper but you must include 3 sources and include the authors name and title of
essay (if possible) then list the source at the end. Three places to look for sources online:
TCA Media Center go to Facts on File, websites from a search engine that end in a.edu
or .org, or books in the library on literary criticism and analysis.
For example,
Joseph Harris in his essay, Beowulf a Literary History suggests that the study and literary
analysis of Beowulf is incomplete. What Harris feels is missing is an in depth study of the literary
history of the work. Harris points out that since the 1950’s literary analysis focused more on the
psychological aspect leaving out the historical context which is important in studying Beowulf.
His essay attempts to study the epic poem from an historical point of view.
