You have 30 days from the purchase of your vehicle or from the time you move to the city to buy your city vehicle sticker. The annual renewal period for all city vehicle stickers is June 1 through July 15. Vehicle stickers and residential parking permits are available at hundreds of locations throughout the city, including City Clerk offices and online at www.chicityclerk.com. All vehicles in the city more than 30 consecutive days are required to have a city sticker, regardless of where the car is registered. How much is a city sticker? City stickers are $75 for a small passenger vehicle, $120 for a large passenger vehicle and $180 for a truck. Seniors receive a discounted rate of $30 for one city sticker. Additional vehicle type pricing and prorated fees can be found at www.chicityclerk.com. Annual residential parking permits are $25. Daily guest passes are $8 for a set of 15 passes and up to 2 books of passes can be purchased in a 30 day period per address. Where do I buy a city sticker, residential parking permit or guest passes? Vehicle stickers, residential parking permits and residential guest passes can be purchased online, by mail (only if you receive a renewal notice) or at City Clerk office locations. Hundreds of other locations, including currency exchanges, sell vehicle stickers and the annual residential parking permit for a small service fee. A complete list of locations can be found at www.chicityclerk.com. When do vehicle stickers expire? Vehicle stickers expire on June 30 each year, regardless of when purchased. Throughout the city there are residential parking zones designed to help ease congestion and make parking easier for residents in that zone. Signs posted in these zones alert you to the zone number and parking restrictions. You can only park on these streets if you have a city sticker with that specific zone number listed on it or you receive a guest parking pass from a resident of that parking zone. What is a guest pass? Guest passes are used in residential parking zones by guests of someone who lives in that zone. They are valid for 24 hours and sold in sets of 15 for $8. These passes are available for purchase at City Clerk office locations. Up to 30 passes (2 sets) of passes may be purchased per address in a 30 day period. What if I move to a new residential parking zone? If you move to a new zone before June 1, you must bring your city sticker in whatever condition along with your original receipt to a City Clerk office location along with proof of current address. We will then transfer your sticker to the new zone. There is a $10 fee for this. What if I buy a new vehicle before my sticker expires? You must bring in the sticker from your old vehicle along with your new vehicle title information to any City Clerk office location. We will transfer your vehicle sticker to your new car. There is a $20 fee for this service and it must be done within 30 days of purchasing the new vehicle. What do I need to do if I just bought my first vehicle? You have 30 days from the date you purchase the vehicle to get a new city sticker. You must bring in your vehicle title information to a city sticker sales location. You can have temporary plates on your vehicle at the time of your city sticker purchase. What if I just moved to Chicago? You have 30 days from the day you move to Chicago to purchase a city vehicle sticker. You do not need an IL license plate or IL driver’s license to purchase a city sticker. To avoid a late fee, bring a copy of your lease or mortgage and your drivers license to any sales location within 30 days of moving here. A list of pro-rated fees can be found at chicityclerk.com. Where do I renew my drivers license or license plate sticker? Your drivers license and license plate sticker are done at the Secretary of State’s office.
