JUNE 23rd, Tuesday
Changable [sic] weather. Sunshine and cloudy no rain. We moved to North Oaks to day.
The day ended Satisfactorily every one tired out went to bed early. Little Walter so
good coming.
JUNE 24th, Wednesday
A cloudy day. All the children well this A.M. House strange to Walter – all out pretty
early. So little sleep last night that I am tired even in the morning.

JUNE 25th, Thursday
A cloudy morning. Papa left at 5.45 to make a 7 train for Moorhead was caught in a rain
storm. Gertrude and Ruth ill last night, they are all right this a.m. No rain here to day.
JUNE 26, Friday
A rather cloudy morning turns to a hot day. Went to the city to Mothers found Nellie in
first time. Papa returned came home with him found all well.
JUNE 27th, Saturday
A lovely morning. Worked all day preparing strawberries to can. Clouded in p.m. but did
not rain here but did in City. Mr. Upham came home with papa.
JUNE 28th, Sunday
A clear cool morning. Went to church to White Bear a delightful drive. Did not feel well
all day. Mr. Upham the boys and papa rode over the farm went to see [Sold finder?].

JUNE 29, Monday
Mr. Upham and papa left for city at 8 a.m. A perfect Morning and day. Boys and Mamie
went to the City, Paul Gotzian returned, the Manvels left at noon for the East. The
Fairbanks family came out. The children had a delightful day enjoyed seeing the ducks
get freedom. A happy day for all. Mr. Manvel came out in evening.

JUNE 30th, Tuesday
A perfectly lovely morning cutting hay. Mr. Manvel went in with papa. Paul Gotzian
came out they are putting out the tenis [sic] posts. Phil Rice came out this p.m. Rev.
Dana his wife her sister and brother in law a Mr. Clark drove out in the afternoon.
{several lines crossed out} Walter begins to take Cows milk to day.
JULY 1st, Wednesday
Hotel Ryan opens to day. Tank empty. A cloudy day. Went to the city went to see Dr.
Smith and attended Mrs. G. Seiberts funeral service. The flowers were beautiful and the
music fine. Went up to Mothers. Papas new team arrive and papa drove them out

accompanied by Mr. Alloway of Montreal Paul Gotzian goes home this eve. My birth day
gave it to the little ones in dolls.
JULY 2nd
A hot dry day. Mr. Allway drove in to the city with Papa. Mamie and Fairbanks girls drive
over to White Bear. Banquet at Hotel Ryan this evening.
JULY 3rd
Boys to go to town this a.m. A rain comes on in afternoon a very hot day. Mr. Benedict
comes out with Papa papa very tired after Banquet. Tell riddles in evening everyone to
bed happily.

JULY 4th
A pleasant morning hot in afternoon. Charlie Schoffler came out to spend the day.
Decorated with flags fireworks in evening lots of fun all day torpedoes and fire crackers.
Dr. Fairbanks and Louis make a balloon.
JULY 5
Changable [sic] in the early morning heavy rain thunder & lightening. By church time
cleared so as to go to church comfortably. Brought home beautiful wild flowers. Mr.
Brown and Papa drove out in p.m. Mr. Fleming also rained again p.m. and in the
evening. Sunday evening July 5th. Charlie Schoeffler and Mamie played Mrs. Fairbanks
and Dr. sang Papa joined so we had a very pleasant evening. (notwithstandning the
weather)

JULY 6th, Monday
A doubtful morning clears early and wind blows continually all day. Charlie Schoeffler
boys and Mamie go to the City. Dr. Fairbanks and family went home at ten a.m. A very
quiet day in doors. Walter not well as usual all day not ill however only ailing as if
teething. Chas. Benedict came out with Papa. Mr. Hunter dismissed.

JULY 7th, Tuesday
Went to the city with Papa, Walter is better, went to see Dr. Smith for self and Walter. A
hot windy day met nearly everyone at Glinny and Gilmans sale. Papa goes to New York
this evening. Valley Gotzian and Mrs. Raguet came out to day had quite a time getting
home. Road fell in at Swamp.
JULY 8th, Wednesday
A very hot day uncomfortably hot until afternoon wind rose thermometer fell very fast.
Phil Rice came out encampment began at White Bear to day. Drove over to see Mrs.
Gotzians house with Mrs. Carey. Walter is much better on condensed milk again.
JULY 9th, Thursday
A delightful day, everyone very well. Children enjoy the afternoon Fox. Drive over to see
the Mounds View Church. No word from papa.

JULY 10th, Friday
A cloudy but very pleasant day. Mrs. S. S. Eaton and sister drove out saw cattle and
dairy. Telegram from papa he is well.
JULY 11th, Saturday
A hot dry day. Went over to White Bear to meet Miss Cutting and put flowers on Altar.
Mrs. Raguet went to city this a. m. Mamie went into church.

JULY 12th, Sunday
A cloudy cool morning. Went to White Bear to church. Mr. Chmedlin [sic] {Chemidlin}
came out with Mamie this a.m. Wind storm came a five how it rained and blew for about
half and hour then cleared and how hot the sun. Was a quiet Sunday everyone happy
except Gertrude. She has not been well as usual for three days teeth are coming.
Jeorge [sic?] James and Miss Glidden married to day, a great surprise to us and others.
Mr. Chmedlin [sic] came out for the day.
JULY 13
A delightful morning, bright and not hot. But what a day of sorrow to many. The storm
yesterday was terrible at Minnetonka. The Rands, that is Father, Mother, daughter, one
son, grand child and son-in-law and nephew all lost and so suddenly from pleasure to
eternity. Also the engineer of boat and a young friend of the Rand boys, Hussey by
name. Mr. Manvel drove out in the evening.
JULY 14
A lovely morning after a dreadful wind storm this a.m. at 2.45. Went over to Cottage
Park to meet Sarah she did not come, but the Seiberts did Louise and her Father. A
cloudy morning rained some in forenoon then cleared and was windy in afternoon. All
well to day Seiberts enjoying themselves.

JULY 15, Wednesday
A hot changable [sic] day rain in forenoon. A hot afternoon. went over to the Stables
and Dairy. Ex-Gov. Knight of Mass. And Dr. Fairbanks called, stayed to supper after
seeing the animals. Mr. Manvel came out in evening so did Mr. Stephen. A fearful night
blew continually and rained with thunder and lightning nearly all night.

JULY 16th
Cool very windy all day. Our first tramp called to day. An agent for monuments called
yesterday and another to day, accidental coincidence, of course, rather suggestive. Mr.
and Miss Siebert returned to city to day. Sarah came out. Rand funeral services to day.
Clara not real well troubled with hives. No word from papa.
JULY 17th, Friday
Cool. So cold last even we had a good fire went over to Lake to see Mr. Saunders and
Mrs. Smith lovely day. Such a lonely evening after children retired. Wrote to Mother
Xavier. No word from Papa. Sarah returned to city this p.m.

JULY 18, Saturday
Went to the City. Papa will not return before last of next week. A very hot day. Found
basement of gallery going up. Went up to Mothers found all well. Arrived home at six.

JULY 19th, Sunday
Went over to White Bear to church, a dreadful storm of wind with rain thunder and
lightning stayed at church during storm, was so dark could not see. Found Mr. Upham
and Mr. Gotzian at house when we returned from church, Mr. Chmedlin [sic] came out
to stay for the day.

JULY 20, Monday
Mamie and boys went to the city dark threatening morning rained here in forenoon but
not in the City. Father Caillet came home with the boys. Weather cleared in p.m.
JULY 21st, Tuesday
A clear day in the main but changable [sic]. Mamie went over to White Bear to meet
Mrs. F. James. A hot evening all very well. Mrs. James did come. Cyrus and Amy Eaton
drove out.
JULY 22, Wednesday
A changable [sic] threatening day, no rain to speak of however. Walter not well. Mrs.
James and I drove over to White Bear for mail and the ride so sultry and hot lovely
evening.

July 23, Thursday
A very hot sultry morning. We heard Gen. Grant died this a.m. We all went fishing.
Caught few fish and only small ones. Mrs. James and Father Caillet went home this
p.m. Walter better.

Another hot day. Mr. Upham and Mr. Manvel came out last evening both seemed to
enjoy the visit. Walter had an uncomfortable night is better to day.

July 25th, Saturday
A hot day but good air. Walter continues to improve. Went in to City when I learned that
Papa had arrived. Mr. Benedict came home with us children surprised at seeing papa
without beard. Papa well and glad to get home.
July 26, Sunday
A hot morning. Walter pretty well. Went over to White Bear to Mass and drove over to
see the Gotzians found all well. The Gotzians came over in evening. Mr. Upham and
Manvel came home.
July 27th, Monday

Hot very. A very hot day 90 F in house with breeze. Rained about 6.30. Ann and Clara
McQ. came p.m. All very well. A busy day cleaning the boys clothes.
July 28, Tuesday
A very very hot day a terrible lightning storm at 1 oclock [sic] so dark that a light was
necessary at lunch time delicious green corn out of our garden to day. Clear afternoon
after fearful wind.

July 30, Wednesday
A Cloudy morning. A fearful wind and rain storm at eleven. Clara and Mamie go to York
this even disappointed at train then lose trunk for a time. After vexatious delays and
uneasiness. Mrs. Upham is reached. We take another with Mrs. Eaton meet Mr. Manvel
at depot finally get started. And are then delayed by washout on road. Papa and I drive
out get him at 11.15 p.m.
July 31, Thursday
Hotest very hot. Another storm at 5 p.m. High wind short duration here but damaging St.
Paul and Minneapolis. Ann Flanagan came to day. Papa not very well this a.m. Wrote
Mamie and Mrs. Goodrich.

Cooler after storm. A perfect delightful day. Mr. Kelly and Mr. Hart came out with Papa.
McQuillan girls and I drove to Moundsview. Wrote to Mamie and Mrs. Goodrich. Windy
night. Phil Rice came out.

August 1st, Saturday
A cool cloudy morning cloudy all day. Drive out to White Bear. Mrs. McQuillan and Phil
came for lunch. Girls and they went in in p.m. Norah went too. It seems lonely without
Clara & Mamie.

A cool clear day drove over to White Bear to Mass there met Mr. Chmedilin [sic] Mrs.
McQ and Annie and Phil. In afternoon Mr. D. Ryan came out with a Mr. Munson and a
Judge Kelly of N. Y. Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Eaton drove out too also a Mr. Cross and one of
Mr. Kitsons sons.
August 3rd, Monday
Boys drove in to City for music lesson. Phil Rice went in with them. They arranged to go
to Yellowstone Park with Dr. Fairbanks. Wednesday Drive over to the Island on W. Bear
with the children to Mrs. Gotzians. Monday 3rd. The Everests came home with the boys.
Papa did not come home until pretty late. A lovely evening. Received telegram from Mr.
Manvel in relation to arrival at Portsmouth safely.
August 4th, Tuesday
A delightful day. Went over to White Bear to train with the Everests. Then called on Mr.
Dr. Smith and Mrs. Galusha found Fathers Caillet and Golden when I got home.

August 5th, Wednesday
Went in to City with Papa and boys. A pleasant day. Mr. Shepard came up to lunch.
Auntie came down from Minneapolis. I went up to Mothers saw Nellie there. Boys and
Dr. got off at four p.m. Saw Mrs. Fairbanks recd letter from Mrs. Upham. Papa got one
from Mr. Manvel. All well at York. We got home about eight p.m. to a very quiet house

August 6th, Thursday
A cloudy morning. Papa woke up late started for city eight twenty. How few we seem in
the house wrote to Clara. Children arguing to pick golden rod. Mr. Benedict came out
with papa recd a letter from Mamie.

August 7th, Friday
A lovely cloudy day. Went over to Turtle Lake in afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Shepard came
out in p.m. Mr. Emery and Mr. Lowery of Lake City came too. Hardest rain of the
Season beginning this night a muggy evening.
August 8th, Saturday
An entirely cloudy Rained from one this a.m. to 7 a.m. and ocasionally all day. Grant
memorial service in City. Mr. Emery and Lowery went in and Gov. Yale and Mr.
Yousmans came out cleared in evening and grew cold made fire.

A delightful morning a reported frost of last night, no sign here. Drove over to Mass.
Saw the Kellys there. Mr. Gotzian and Mr. Wheelock came in forenoon stayed to lunch.
Mr. John Farrington and family drove out early in afternoon. Mr. Willis and wife came
next. Then the Sanborns and Mrs. Edmund Rice. Later the Kellys drove over. Mr. Yale
and Mr. Yousmans went back to city in p.m. Continued a perfect day very cool in
evening.

A charming morning. Mr. and Mrs. Shepard went back to city. Mrs. Shepard improved in
health. Miss McQuillan and her friends Mr. and Miss Picket came in forenoon a cloudy
evening.
August 11th, Tuesday
A rainy cold morning rained all night so heavily on forenoon that Papa did not start for
City until noon. Mollie Mc and her friends went in on two oclock train. Clear sky and
wind blowing at 2 p.m.
August 12th, Wednesday
St. Clara’s day Father Caillet came out last night, to day the 28th anniversary of his
ordination. A delightful day. Walter is not real well. Papa came out in good season
before seven quite cool evening fire in grate.

Mamies birth day wrote her a letter then went in to the city a cool morning but a perfect
day. Went up to Mothers. Saw Mrs. James and Eaton. Mr. Touzalin {in Louis’ writing
above name: “C. B&N Ry”} came out with papa recd letter from Mamie and Clara.
August 14th, Friday
Still perfect weather went over to White Bear in morning busy all afternoon fixing Claras
dress to send her. Walter very well to day. Mr. Gotzian in Paul drove over and went to

August 15th, Saturday
A perfect day papa did not go in to city until afternoon. Boys home from Yellowstone
happy and well. All went hunting shot five chickens. Mr. Manvel and Mr. Upham
returned to day recd letter from Mamie.
August 16th, Sunday
A lovely morning did not go to church on account of Walter. Mr. and Mrs. James drove
out for the day. Mr. Chmedlin came home from church with boys. Mr. Manvel came out
p.m. Gus. Schurmier and Miss Lindeke drove out for five hours. Sunday 16. Aunt Emma
and Wilfred are in the city Mr. Stephen tells me. An electric storm threatened all
afternoon but passed off by sundown.
August 17, Monday
Boys gone to city a hot day. Emma and Wilfred Hill came back with the boys. Letter
from Mamie. Wrote to Mrs. Manvel delightful weather. All well.

A pretty hot day drove around the Lake. A very quiet day. Mr. Benedict came out with
papa turned very cool in evening almost frosty. All well but myself.

A lovely day our anniversary. Another quiet day boys catch gophers and prepare to fish.
Mr. Minot came out with papa in evening cool evening.

A cloudy morning drove over to White Bear in forenoon saw Mrs. Gotzian rained in
afternoon. Two letters from Mamie wrote to Mamie. All very well. Mr. Thorne came out
with Papa. {in Louis writing “shooting season”}
August 21st. Friday
A cool cloudy day rained in early morning. Mr. S Thorne and papa went in by lake
weather cleared by afternoon.

A cloudy morning. Mr. Manvel went in to city. Alone with children all day. A rainy day
wrote to Mrs. Goodrich in even. Father Caillet went in yesterday. Letter from Mrs. Swan.

Papa Mr. Thorne and boys return from hunt report good time. Some game quite a good
deal. A lovely day little pony and cart came out to the joy of the children. {Written by

Aug. 30, Sunday
Cloudy morning cleared by noon. Pleasant day but cool. Mr. Thorne here we went over
to White Bear Mass. Mr. Manvel and Pillsbury drive from Minneapolis. A Quiet day all
well. Mr. Chmedlin [sic] came home with us.

A delightful day. Papa and Mr. Thorne Mr. Upham Gotzian and Merriam start for a hunt.
Mrs. Swan came out also Mrs. Mattocks and Jessie. Katie’s birth day. Quite cold
evening.

A perfect day drive out to Station with Mrs. Swan Mrs. M and Jessie spend the day
looking at stock and other things. Boys to Wilkinsons Lake to see about duck decoys.

after seeing the Island and Cottage Park. Letters from Mamie.

Wilfred came back from Morris.
September 5, Saturday
Mamie and Clara returned from York to day went to city. Took Walter and Gertrude had
them vaccinated. Mrs. Swan came home with us.

Mr. Manvel and Mr. Pillsbury came out to day. Mamie and Clara too fatigued to go to
church. Frank and Charlie in carriage. Charlie fell broke harness but both acted well.
September 7th, Monday
Boys went to city. Went over to White Bear saw Mrs. Young drove about the Island and
Cottage Park with Mrs. Swan.
September 8, Tuesday
Rained all day poured and was so dark and cold.

September 9th, Wednesday
A clearing morning. Mrs. Swan and I started for Stillwater on train leaving Mamie and
Ruth at P. O. Surly acted ugly broke away forcing Clipper with him. Poor Clipper killed.
September 10, Thursday
Went in to City to Fair with Mrs. Swan Emma Mamie and boys. Papa went in evening
for a hunt remained in City all night. Saw Annie and family at fair. Drove home from the
fair with Mr. S. Newel in an express waggon [sic].
Sept. 11, Friday
A rainy morning. Can not go out to fair to see Stock too wet. Came home about three
rained occasionally all day. Mrs. Swan went home in evening rained in torrents all
Friday night. Thundering and lightning all night and blowing hard.
Sept. 12, Saturday
Cleared in afternoon went over to the chapel arranged flowers on Altar. Walters
vaccination working he pretty well.

Went over to White Bear to Mass. Clara and Louis in Cart. Papa returned from hunt in
a.m. Mr. Manvel and Eagan drove out and stayed all night a perfect day quite warm.

A clear day windy. Boys gone to City.
Sept. 15, Tuesday
Went in to city with Boys took Gertrude to be revaccinated. Wagon Broke on Rice street
bridge going in our third accident. Papa the Mrs Thompsons and boys start on a hunt at
5.30. I remained in city all night at Mrs. Uphams went to see Lotts Children saw a
wonderfully beautiful display of Northern lights.
Sept. 16, Wednesday
A beautiful day very warm. Came home on noon train made jelly in afternoon all well.
Children all day out enjoying the weather. Papas birth day {in Louis’ writing “47”}

Sept. 17, Thursday
A perfect day quite like June a glorious evening. Busy all day in kitchen making jelly and
preparing citron.
Sept. 18, Friday
Another remarkably delightful day and such a sunset as is seldom seen. The West
illuminated past eight oclock. Such warm light. Gertrude does not seem perfectly well
rest all well except colds.
Sept. 19, Saturday
Sun lit up East early. Then rain fell. Boys and papa came home from hunt. Rained
nearly all day cleared toward evening.

Sept. 20, Sunday
Could not go to church. Mamie and boys went. Cloudy morning. Dr. Thompson and Mr.
W. Thompson and judge Cadwalager came out to spend day. Dr. Fairbanks came too.
Sept. 21st, Monday
Gentlemen and papa went to city in forenoon. Charlotte and I went to Milwaukee in
evening. Emma and Wilfred started for home going with us. Mr. Upham too went to
Chicago. It has been a very hot sultry day hot as summer weather. School began this
morning. All well and Happy.
Sept. 22, Tuesday
Arrived in Milwaukee at 10.30. Went to Plunkington saw Mrs. Swan after dinner. Went
to Institute met 50 old pupils congratulating Sister Seraphina. Saw several of the old
sisters. Mother Caroline absent. Weather cool almost cold. Did not get away from

Sept. 23, Wednesday
Still in Milwaukee a pleasant day. Still cool drove about City in forenoon went to some
shops and to Convent. Mrs. Sexton Mrs. Zimmerman Mrs. Robertson took supper with
me at Hotel. Left for home about midnight a cold night.

Sept. 24, Thursday
Arrived in St. Paul at 2.30 found hot weather in St. Paul. Met Mrs. Fairbanks on train
went up to see Mother she not well arrived home about eight oclock brought the little
ones rings. Found all quite well.
Sept. 25, Friday
A very hot day all well. Grace Upham came out.
Sept. 26, Saturday
A clear hot day. Went to City with papa. Went to see Mrs. Newel Mrs. Shepard Nellie &
Grandma. Sarah and Nellie came out. Came home early. I Called on Gotzians. Mrs.
Manvels birth day.

Sept. 27, Sunday
A delightful day. Went to Mass at White Bear. Mr. Chmedlin {Chemidlin} and John
Prince drove out. Also Mr. Secomb [sic] {Secombe} and Mr. Manvel. Dr. Fairbanks
returned on 1 train.
Sept. 28, Monday
Another perfect day. Went out in garden early this everything lovely all week. Mr. M. and
S. drove in at 6.30 this a.m. Grace went in too. Have been expecting Mr. and Mrs. S.
Newel all day instead Mr. Von Eighen and a violinist Mr. Hydlicooper of Amsterdam
came in the evening train to spend the night. Clara not real well to day. Papa came out
early.

Sept. 29th, Tuesday
A delightful day like a June morning even the birds singing unusually. Dutch gentlemen
and papa went to City about ten oclock. All seem very well this a.m. Mr. and Mrs. S
Newel drove out to spend night.
Sept. 30th, Wednesday
A cool morning slightly windy. Mr. and Mrs. S. Newel returned to City about noon.
Mamie Clara and I went over to P. O. a pleasant ride. Letter from Emma.
Oct. 1st, Thursday
Cold morning. Gertrude Uphams birth day Clara went in to celebrate it. Mr. Benedict
came out. Mr. and Mrs. Cross and child came out and spent night.

October 2, Friday
Cold and threatening. But did not rain got windy in afternoon. Mamie and I walked on
old White Bear road. Mr. Upham came out to shoot ducks did not get any too dark cold.

Cold morning. Drove over to White Bear to meet Uphams. Gertrude came home with
me. A cold nigh froze everything in garden ice formed in streams. First snow tonight.

Went over to Church. Was very cold our flower garden wilted. Mr. Wheelock Mr. Knox
Mr. Manvel came out to spend the day fires all day. Children well. Louis walked from
church.

A bright clear day but cold all day. Went in to City with Mrs. Upham and family. Called at
Mrs. K. Clark. Papa did not come home in evening. I came in five clock.

A cold day in forenoon. Father Caillet came out in forenoon. New cattle arrived.* He
Mamie Charlotte and I walked around the Lake in one hour and half. Mr. Miller came
home with papa.

Dark threatening day rained a little early in morning lightened in afternoon. Papa and
Mr. Miller remain here all day. Father Caillet Mamie and I walk from White Bear in hour
and fifty minutes. Walter a spell in evening.

November {October?} 8th, Thursday
A delightful morning and day. Went in to City to the dentist. Lunched at Mrs. Uphams.
Mr. Upham returned from hunt bringing 70 ducks red heads mallards, teel and canvass
backs. Came home over fill in road. Walter well apparently.
November {October?} 9, Friday
Pleasant grew windy and cold in forenoon moderated p.m. Father Caillet went in to City
a.m. Busy all day forenoon sweet pickling mending for Charlotte. Mr. Benedict came out
with papa in evening a lovely sunset and evening. Antoine departed cook.
November {October?} 10, Saturday
An unusually hot dusty day. Went in to City to the dentist. Manvels returned yesterday.
Mr. Tousalin {Touzalin} came out. Papa remained at North Oaks all day. Phil Rice came
out. All well. Letter from Mrs. Swan windy night. Saw Mrs. Gotzian. Mrs. Dr. Marcoe
called at house.
Oct. 11th, Sunday
A lovely day. Mr. Tousilan {Touzalin} Mr. Wm. King, Minneapolis Mr. Miller Can. Mr.
Manvel out here and Goodrich Manvel. Began cows milk to Walter.

Papa went hunting to Manitoba and further raining when he left here rained all day.

Went in to City to dentist to Mothers to Hotel Ryan. Mrs. James came home with me. A
perfectly lovely day. Baby Smith born at 4 p.m. first birth at North Oaks.

A perfect day. Mother came out with John. Went over to see new baby. All well.
Oct. 15, Thur.
Another perfect day unusually hot but lovely and regular Indian summer moon light
sunset and all. Mr. Stephen and friend came out. Mamie and Mrs. James walk from W.

Another just such a day as preceding seems too good to last. Mrs. James tried to go
home but failed. Dr. Fairbanks shot a loon took it home. Mr. Stoeving and Manvels
came out.

A lovely autumn Indian summer day not so hot as yesterday. All well and very pleasant
day for every one. Telegram from Papa. Mrs. James Mr. Stoeving return to City.
Oct. 18, Sun.
Cold. A pleasant morning grows colder toward noon very cold at Church. Mrs. Manvel
and daughters with us. Dr. Hand and Dan took dinner with us. Mr. Manvel came at four
spent the night. All well. Seeing the stock completely tired Dr. Hand a lovely evening.

Oct. 19, Mon.
Cloudy not very cold in morning turned cold toward evening looks like snow. Went to
City with Manvels to Mrs. Kellys Mrs. James Uphams. Look for shades. Boiler in things
progressing. Telegram from papa from Donald 1000 miles from Winnipeg leaves for
home tonight reached home in fur fire beyond us.
Oct. 20, Tues.
Cold. Morning quite cold a little snow turns warmer beautiful sunset moonlight lovely
evening. Charlotte bad cold. Mamie and Dr. Fairbanks walk home from W. Bear.
Children dress up and make lots of fun in evening. Papa in St. Paul we hear by
telephone.

A cloudy cold morning. Went to city to Mrs. Kellys reception. Mrs. Upham Mrs.
Hardenberg-Rhodes Rundlett-Smith and self assisted. Also Miss Murphy Mrs. Bird Mrs.
Berkey and Misses Beaumont and Miss Beloit. Papa returned this morning at seven
from trip over Ca. P. R. R. with the Minots. A perfectly delightful drive home in moonlight
reach North Oaks at 7.50 all well.

An unusually perfect autumn morning warm and bright pleasant day and glorious
evening. Mr. Minot came home with papa. Louis shot 3 ducks. 3 mallards.
Oct. 23, Fri.
A delightful morning. Went in to City with papa to see about house and hurry up on
matters. Laid track on N. P. across Rice St. saw an engine there in even, went to
enquire for Dr. Steele. Found he was more comfortable. Went to see Mrs. Schurmier
[sic] and Mrs. Gotzian. Mr. Ramsay came home with us in evening.
Oct 24, Saturday
A delightful Indian summer day. Papa and Mr. Ramsay went to city 11.30. Mr. Minot
came home with papa. Dan Hand with boys. No ducks fly tonight

A delightful morning a charming ride to church. All well. Mr. Broadwater and Mr. Flenry
came in forenoon. Mr. Manvel Mr. Barney and Mr. Minot’s brother in afternoon. Dan
Hand went. Mr. Stephens lunched. Sunday. City with Mr. Manvel in evening. Mr. B and
F also went back in evening a perfect autumn day throughout. Wedding at North Oaks
to day.

Cloudy. Very cloudy all day quite dark no rain however and not at all cold. Mrs. Kinsman
came in evening. Mamie Clara and I went for a walk p.m. Read Ben Hur alternating with
cooking. Mr. Manvel went in this morning.

A cold day. Drove over to White Bear with Mrs. Kinsman. Afternoon cold and rainy. Mr.
Broadwater came home with papa.

Went in to City with Broadwater and papa a lovely morning turns cold through the day.
Everything progressing. Home early.
Oct. 29, Thursday
A pleasant day but quite cool cold in fact. Mrs. Kinsman and I went over to stables
twice. Mr. Benedict came home with papa preparing to move in.

A cold cloudy day snowed a little sent in a load this a.m. We are going in to Opera
Mikado tonight.

We went to the opera it was very poor worked at house in forenoon went to North Oaks
in p.m. a pleasant ride not very cold.

Cold windy morning snowing did not go to church. Mr. Benedict and Mr. Pyle came out

A pleasant day busy as could be all day morning in to City. We all got in by six. All well
children excited. Mr. Ramsay and “ Shepard came evening.
Nov. 3, Tuesday
A delightful day. Children all well and so busy looking about to see if they can find
anything new. They went for a walk went to benefit concert for F. Wood.

A pleasant day very busy all day putting things in place. Several called went out to do
some errands at 3.30. Walter in short clothes again and so well.

A pleasant day grows colder p.m. Very busy all day. Mr. Ramsay came to lunch. Man
arrived to arrange pictures for gallery. Papa went for a hunt in evening. Chamber
concert at Ryan.
Nov. 6, Friday
A dark rainy day all day and night. Rachels hair cut in forenoon. Another very busy day.
Went to arrange for Mamies music up to Mothers also.
