History
General Information
Fort McMurray Airport Authority was incorporated in December 2009
and its first Board of Directors was formed effective January 1, 2010. The
Board consists of ten positions appointed by five appointing bodies. It
is the fourth airport authority to form in Alberta: others include Calgary,
Edmonton, and Red Deer.
Distance to Downtown Fort McMurray: 13 kilometers (8 miles) from
air terminal building
Under Alberta legislation, Airport Authorities act as businesses
independent of governments, but are accountable through regulations
and good business practice to users and appointers.

In January 2010, the Airport Authority acquired the Airport from the
