Page 2 Heartbeat First Baptist Church News & Events Volume 18 April 22 issue 8 Dear Church, The tomb is empty! Christ is risen! This changes everything!! I’m not sure if you are enjoying listening to the recent messages in our new series, but I sure am enjoying preaching them! Thanks for the positive remarks after the last two messages. Continue to pray for me as I seek God’s direction with this series. Sunday we will again look at why the Word must be central in our worship and our lives. How are you doing on hiding Acts 2:42-47 in your heart? If you have no idea what I’m talking about that probably means you missed corporate worship this past Sunday. The challenge has been given to all members of FBC to make the Word central in our lives as we make the Word central in our church. A practical way of doing this is to commit Acts 2:42-47 to memory. Why is committing sections of God’s Word to memory so important? There is a battle going on between the god of this world and the true God. Paul says the god of this world is doing everything he can to blind the minds of unbelievers so they can’t see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ (2 Corinthians 4:4). Two verses later, Paul exclaims that the true God is shining light into our hearts by his Spirit to show us His glory in the face of Christ. And right smack in between those two verses we find this: “We do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord” (2 Corinthians 4:5). And to preach the Word, we’ve got to know the Word! In Acts 2:42-47 we see the priorities of the first church. Right at the top of that list is “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching” (Acts 2:42). So the challenge is to make the Word central in our worship and in our lives. We say we want revival. Church, I am convinced that revival only occurs when God’s people seek God above all else. God reveals Himself through His Word and that is why the Word must be central in our lives. Here are three other ways for you to begin this journey of making the Word central in your life. (1) Make corporate worship a priority. Each Sunday at FBC the Word of God is revealed and the greatness of God is exalted. (2) Come an hour early on Sunday morning for small group Bible study (Sunday School). There’s nothing like sitting in a small group and studying the Word of God! (3) Register for at least one DEEPER small group throughout the year. We offer three semesters of DEEPER each year. Find a topic you want to explore and commit to the 6-8 weeks of small group discipleship. We’ve got one more Sunday in April before we have three BIG Sundays back-to-back-to-back. We will recognize our graduating high school seniors on May 3. In addition, after morning worship on May 3 the Women’s Ministry will be having their Spring Luncheon in the Fellowship Hall. The next Sunday, May 10, is Mother’s Day and Parent/Child Dedication. All moms in attendance will be given a special gift from the church. Parents wishing to dedicate themselves and their child to the Lord should also contact the Church Office by Friday, May 1. Family Day is scheduled for Sunday, May 17. This year we are planning on celebrating Family Day at John Cain Park. More info will be upcoming on this event. I’m looking forward to gathering with our FBC family this Sunday for worship. Come expecting to hear from God! Introducing: Hometown Nazareth where Jesus was a kid. I love VBS! What an awesome way to introduce children to Jesus, God’s one and only son. Everyone knows what it’s like to hear your mom tell stories from your childhood. Can you imagine the kinds of stories Mary could tell? Lets take kids back to Hometown Nazareth, where they’ll stand up for their faith among people who doubt that the carpenter’s son is really God’s son. Come back to Nazareth and experience Stories in Mary’s House, visit the Marketplace Shops where you can make toys & jewelry, and stop by the fun & games tent for high-energy activity. We will need your help! This Sunday there will be a table set up in the hallway with more information about Hometown Nazareth. There are three opportunities to participate: Two 1-Day VBS days on Saturday June 6th and July 11th, also July 20-23 in Vilonia. Would love to have you help with all three!!! Please drop by and talk with me about how you can make this VBS an awesome experience for all who attend.
