ADMINISTRATIVE SPECIAL SIGN PERMIT:
APPLICATION FOR WEEKEND DIRECTIONAL SIGNS
Temporary Sign: Any sign, banner, pennant, non-governmental flag, or advertising display construction of
cloth, canvas, light fabric, cardboard, wallboard or other like material, with or without frames, intended to
be displayed for a short period of time only.
Weekend Directional Sign: A single or double-faced sign, no larger than three (3’) square feet in area per
sign face and no higher than four (4’) feet in height, designed solely for the purpose of directing vehicular
or pedestrian traffic to a specific subdivision location and containing no more information other than the
name of the subdivision or developer and a directional arrow. A Weekend Directional Sign is not
considered a portable sign, but it is considered a type of Temporary Sign.
Be sure that:

the application form is filled out completely; and that,

all persons having fee title ownership interest in the property, or legal
authorization to execute such document, must sign the application
Items to be submitted with this application:

One (1) copy of a street map or aerial map which includes, at a minimum:
Identification and location of the subdivision property; proposed locations
of individual directional signs; elevation drawing of proposed signs.

One (1) copy of warranty dead, joint tenancy deed, or title report as proof of
ownership.

All signs for which a permit issued may be subject to inspection by the Building
Official.

Weekend Directional Sign Requirements:
Weekend Directional Signs, as defined in this Code for new subdivisions located within the City limits only, may be
allowed by Administrative Special Sign Permit. These signs may be a maximum of three (3’) square feet in area and
four (4’) square feet in height, and shall be allowed for a specific amount of time. The permitted number of signs, hours
of use and location of Weekend Directional Signs (WDS) per subdivision shall be determined as follows:

*If an Off-Site Development Sign has been approved for a subdivision per Section 21.47, the total # of
WDS allowed for the same subdivision shall be reduced by twenty-five percent (25%).
Following the issuance of an Administrative Special Sign Permit, WDS may be displayed
no earlier than 6:00 p.m. M.S.T. on Friday of each week and shall be removed in their entirety (including
support structure) no later than 8:00 a.m. M.S.T. on the following Monday. On holiday weekends, WDS
may be displayed no earlier than 6:00 p.m. M.S.T. on the Thursday preceding any commonly recognized
holiday falling on a Friday and shall be entirely removed no later than 8:00 a.m. M.S.T. the following
Monday; or, if the holiday falls on a Monday, the WDS may be displayed no earlier than 6:00 p.m. M.S.T.
of the preceding Friday and shall be entirely removed no later than 8:00 a.m. M.S.T. on the following
Tuesday. Barring any violations, WDS may be displayed according to the provisions and limits of their
Administrative Special Sign Permit until all lots in the subdivision are sold or two (2) years from the date
of permit issuance, whichever comes first.
WDS shall be located within a two (2) mile radius of the exterior boundaries of the subdivision to which
they pertain.
No WDS permitted herein shall be displayed within the center median of a public roadway, or within ten
(10’) feet of the face of a curb or edge of the paved roadway if there is no curb; or within a sight distance
triangle formed by the street right-of-way lines and a line connecting them at points thirty-three (33’) from
the point of intersection of the right-of-way lines.
An individual WDS for a specific subdivision shall be located a minimum of fifty (50’) from any other
WDS allowed under the same permit or from an Off-Site Development Sign allowed by Special Sign
Permit for the same subdivision.
The party responsible for any WDS pertaining to a specific subdivision shall be the party to whom the
Administrative Special Sign Permit was issued.
Said responsible party shall post a $2,000,000 liability insurance policy and file a statement with said
permit holding the City free and harmless of any and all claims that may result from any accident involving
any sign permitted and located in the public right-of-way. WDS shall otherwise comply with all applicable
provisions of Section 1-21-4-3 and 1-21-6-6CE of this Code (City of Apache Junction Zoning Ordinance).
All WDS shall be firmly affixed to the ground with either wood or metal stakes, or other supportive
material capable of reasonably holding the signs in place, for the purpose of preventing the signs from
becoming litter and/or from blowing about causing dangers to vehicles and pedestrians.
